But in actuality the one who has been with him the longest and never leaves his side is his sableye Malachite. He's the only one on the team with a standard pokeball instead of a luxury ball, though he's never inside of it. Aven keeps the ball tucked in a jacket pocket rather than display it on his belt--most of the time he has no need for it but it is still a precious thing to him.

Malachite prefers to stay hidden in Aven's shadow instead, and only really comes out in the open when he's called out by Aven, when he has to protect Aven or when Aven is alone. That can change if Malachite comes to trust someone else, but that's a high bar to cross when most folks barely know he exists.

This luck truly was a curse. He looked down at the Monopoly Luxury Edition in front of him, wishing he could properly admire the exquisite wooden cabinet and beautiful inlaid playing board. The fake money was lined up neatly in its little drawers, the cards were shuffled and placed carefully in their proper positions and the solid gold player tokens were set up so nicely near the starting square. And for what?

"What's the point if no one will play with me?" Abandoned by his own staff... He even would have let them pick the lillipup token! Everyone loves that token! He gave a defeated sigh as he put his elbows on the lounge table and then put his chin in his hands, giving the most pathetic of pouts.
