I Need Advice
Hello everyone! I haven’t been on fishblr in years, but I need some advice. My current fish have been generally unwell for the past several months. Nothing severe, thankfully. It just seems that no matter what I do, there is no improvement in their condition.
I have three fancy goldfish living in a 55 gallon corner aquarium. All of them went through extensive quarantine before being added to the tank, and the tank is cycled. I do 50% water changes once every week.
These are the water parameters as of posting this: PH - 8.0 Ammonia - 0.00-0.25ppm Nitrate - 40ppm Nitrite - 0ppm I question the accuracy of nitrates only because the red color of 40ppm and 80ppm are very similar. Please take this into account.
The symptoms they have been experiencing are as follows: - Splotchy, red skin. - Veins visible in some areas of their fins - General lethargy (only applies to one fish, PeaPod) - White or “empty” poop - Some “poopslosions.” I have never seen it happen, but sometimes I walk by the tank and notice a cloud of white particles in the water, like they had diarrhea or something. - Bumps appearing in their fins (?) - One fish, Skynard, seems to be OBSESSED with eating PeaPod’s ass. I’m not kidding. She literally goes under PeaPod’s tail and looks like she’s trying to suck the poop out of him. It doesn’t appear to be aggression or breeding behavior, though. PeaPod is the biggest fish in the tank, and Skynard is about ¼ his size. Skynard is also female and PeaPod is male. PeaPod doesn’t seem to care at all, but it bothers me lol. I’ll post a video if I can.
I tried my best to get a picture of PeaPod’s fin veins. He is very wiggly haha, I apologize for that. Another thing I’m curious about is Mudwinkle’s fin condition. Mudwinkle came to me with conformation issues, but he seems to have a few more bumps than usual. Do you think that this is just his conformation issues evolving, or is it something else? I haven’t seen the other fish bully him.
I apologize for the long post. Thank you in advance if you help out! Any thoughts are appreciated!
Bonus: Mudwinkle photobomb!
Have they been treated for parasites any time recently? A bunch of those symptoms could be in line with a heavy fluke load. In particular the little bumps you’re seeing on Mudwinkle are little cysts I’ve heard referred to as “pus pockets” (ew) which are common with flukes and other external parasites. I see them occasionally on one of my fish with more fragile fins, and when she starts looking rough I do a round or three of praziquantel and large water changes and she looks much better.
I’d say some prazi is worth a shot, it’s a pretty harmless medication and can’t really hurt. It might help them feel better.
Thank you so much for the advice! I have tried a lot of medications in the past, but mostly for bacterial and fungal infections, so those can be ruled out.
Flukes make a lot of sense after looking into more of the symptoms. I'll have to try the medication you recommended! And I'll continue to do more water changes to keep the nitrates and ammonia down.

eyyy reblog this if u have a fishblr so i can follow u!!
terfs/nazis/assholes don’t interact please
This is Chubbs (eric cartman) he is a ranchu, I got him and Bob a week after Dave. He was named Eric cause i love south park and he tried very hard to bully and take all the food. His name got changed to Chubbs because he mellowed out after I got Sora and I ended up not liking Eric.
He is around 5 inches now. I think he was kinda ugly when I got him ngl but his colors have developed pretty good i think. I really love his tail.
Here is Sora, pretty sure he is about 9 inches long now. He likes to sleep during the morning and afternoon and is more active around evening and night. When i first got him he had a more yellow color (first two pics) but after a few months it turned more orange/red.
Chubbs (~2.6 inches at the time) used to try and bully him (~7.3 inches at the time) and it was pretty amasuning at the time. Sora would just let him until Chubbs decided to stop. I really love his wen, its just big enough to be noticable, but also small enough that it doesnt interfere with his eyes, nasal flar or mouth.
This is Luci, she is a special needs blackmoor who lives in her own 20 long. Both her pectoral fins curl forward and one of her ventricals is underdeveloped. She spazzes out when she is streesed or excited and tends to sleep on her back. She has gotten much better since being on her own though. She is not tame at all and flips out when anyone goes near her tank. She cannot compete with other fish at all.
