“Stairway to Heaven” is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in 1971. Composed by guitarist #JimmyPage and babely vocalist #RobertPlant, it is often referred to as one of the greatest rock songs of all time. #StraightFactsB http://ift.tt/2f4tlYI
New Release: Audio Push x Reppin'
In a seemingly continuous stream of releases, rap duo Audio Push dropped a new Hit-Boy produced track on Tuesday. All about reppin' their side, they recount their days in Cali and lay the claim that "the west is back". While the beat seems to start off basic, the added effects, breakdowns, and sparse but perfectly timed "yup!" samples create a hype atmosphere and accompanies the verses in this banger perfectly. With a feature from Rockie Fresh and projects with hard hitting producers, Oktane and Pricetag are creating a sizable hype- and so far they're delivering.
New Release: Kid Ink x Body Language feat. Usher and Tinashe
On September 7th, rapper Kid Ink gave his fans a sample of an upcoming song on his instagram and the next day he released the full version- Body Language, featuring a hook by r&b veteran Usher, backing vocals by breakout artist Tinashe, and production by Cashmere Cat and Stargate. On the track, the rapper talks about reading a woman's body language and assures her that "she ain't gotta say too much", he can already tell she wants him. While the beat is upbeat and fun and the verses are strong, Kid Ink's delivery is nothing different from his usual songs and this isn't much of a standout track. However, I wouldn't be surprised if this song didn't become a radio hit or future club banger.
Trending Tuesday: ILOVEMAKONNEN x Tuesday feat. Drake
For my first Trending Tuesday entry, I wanted to cover one of the hottest breakout songs of the moment coincidentally titled Tuesday. The eccentric Atlanta native ILOVEMAKONNEN burst onto the scene in a big way earlier this year and gained big buzz when his song "Club Goin' Up on a Tuesday" was remixed by music heavyweight Drake this past August. In this track, produced by Sonny Digital and Metro Boomin, the artist sings about partying on one of the most random days of the week. The hook is extremely catchy and, though the delivery at times is lax and a bit messy, the breakdowns during the verses add more substance to the song and it is hard to get it out of your head. The artist recently signed with OVO Sound and, with a feature in XXL and an upcoming project with Mike Will Made-It to be released in late 2014, this is sure to be a big year for ILOVEMAKONNEN.
New Release: Vince Staples x Made In Black America (Freestyle)
Last Night, in collaboration with clothing giant LRG, the LA Leakers dropped their highly anticipated Leaks of the Industry 2014 mixtape. With original features from some of the hottest and most buzzed about artists in the game today, including Snoop Dogg, G Unit, Audio Push, and I LOVE MAKONNEN, the tape showcases and blends different sounds and talents to come up with a powerful and eclectic tape. One of the most standout tracks for me was Vince Staples' freestyle Made In Black America. Spitting a clean 16 over a Common beat, Staples raps about his youth, what it was like for him to come up in Long Beach, and how things are for him now. He performs a solid delivery and sticks with his theme throughout the song. The most standout line of the track was at the end when he says, "But that was then and this is now, the only rounds I hear at night is from applause."
New Release: Lil Za x TWAP ( Produced by The Audibles)
Released yesterday, this track from Lil Za, younger brother to Lil Twist and notably best friend to Justin Bieber, serves as an ode to the female form, encourages listeners to "make that ass clap", and name drops popular strippers Blac Chyna and Maliah Michel. Produced by duo The Audibles, the song has a wavy and relaxed club vibe. While the verses could be a lot stronger, the hook is the most promising part of the song, with strong vocals that help elevate the overall feel.
New Release: P Reign x Realest In The City ft. Meek Mill & PartyNextDoor
Today, P Reign released Realest In The City, a track from his upcoming EP Dear America that drops tomorrow on Itunes. On it, the rapper spits about his city and aspects from home. The rapper is fresh from a drop of his mixtape that premiered last week on hotnewhiphop. OVO's rising star PartyNextDoor and Maybach Music artist Meek Mill accompany P Reign on the boastful Boy-1da and The Maven Boys produced track. The track showcases PartyNextDoors' versatility and includes a slightly demure verse delivered from Meek Mill. P Reign's newly released and upcoming projects offer some promising tracks and it will be interesting to see where the new EP will take him.
New Release: Goldlink x Velho (Freestyle)
I wanted my first post to be about one of my favorite artists at the moment: Goldlink. Hailing from the DMV, the 20-year-old rapper gained notoriety on soundcloud for his remixes and garnered popular media attention after being profiled by xxlmag, Pitchfork, and Complex. To keep a mysterious front, the MC kept his face under disguise until a recent performance at Trillectro 2014. This specific track, produced by oriJanus, was released as a part of a compilation from Stussy and Soulection on the 5th and flawlessly highlights Goldlinks' easy and natural flow.
