Drew felt an immense wave of elation crash over him when Eli took his own initiative and kissed him, gently dragging his nails down the back of his neck while the other arm moved to coil entirely around Eli’s waist. He hummed softly, nearly inaudibly against Eli’s lips, as reluctant to part for air as they seemed to be each time they spared a moment to breathe before delving right back into their kiss. He wasn’t sure if he’d ever kissed Eli or anybody so fervently and with such passion, and none of their first few chaste, sweet lip-locks and heated make out sessions that followed compared to right then and there, their lips meeting again and again.
His hand smoothed up to gently take hold of Eli’s hair, cocking his head to deepen the kiss just prior to the other boy finally breaking it. He listened carefully to what the other had to say, a shiver running up his spine and forcing him to truly register how cold it was for the first time in his heated, intoxicated state. Somewhat breathlessly, timidly, Drew posed the question, “..Do you wanna get out of here?” in response, loosening his grip on Eli’s hair only to bring his hand around and lay it on his jaw, “..Look, I came here tonight because I thought I wanted to get drunk enough to forget you. But I don’t wanna forget.” He was through with uncertainty and tip-toeing around instead of expressing how he felt, “I want to remember. I want you to remember..” He paused for a beat, impulsively finishing with, “I wanna sleep with you.”
Drew quickly realized the heavy implications of his words and, not wanting to off-put Eli, immediately clarified exactly what he’d meant and stepped back from him, “I mean like sleep beside you. Not like, have sex.. although we do have great sex. But I know you don’t really, we haven’t talked about..” He paused, wet his lips, “I’m sorry, I’m kinda drunk. Probably noticed that when I threw my drink. Guess the whole screaming, fighting thing didn’t totally kill my buzz.” Drew ran a hand back through the gel-styled front of his hair, bit at the inside of his lip, then finally gave a somewhat pitiful last plea, “What do you think? Take me home with you..?”
Eli took in the other’s gaze as eyes were locked. It all felt so surreal when thinking of how he couldn’t think of Drew and him that way, the moment he woke up from his long sleep, but now he didn’t want to be the first one to pull away from this moment. He was willing to try now, and willing to give everything he had. To do this and go through the pain and the past of what they had, and make Drew feel like it wasn’t a waste of time─ like he wasn’t a waste of time. The thought of Drew moving on to find someone who could replace Eli almost bothered him considering everything they shared in the past and all the stories he had told. He was not going to let that happen, and that was a promise to himself and Drew.
Eli ran his tongue over his lips to wet them, faintly tasting the alcohol that still wandered on his lips. He felt a shiver down his body as Drew gently touched his jaw, being in total awe of the moment they shared. “Yes.. I want to get out of here. To remember.” Never had he felt that way when being with any girl─ or at least as far as he remember. The feeling of being safe and secure was completely new and it felt amazing, and it felt so right to him.
A small smile appeared on his lips as Drew fumbled with his words, yet confessing more of them and what they had. “Don’t worry about it; I’m a little bit tipsy as well. I suppose it’s only fair after everything I said. But yeah,” He nodded, picking up Drew’s coat from the ground before taking his hand in his own. Softly he tugged on his arm, dragging him in the direction to his home while keeping his eyes on the taller male. “Lets go, yeah?” He shot him a smile, still holding his hand in a tight grip, not letting go for one second as they walked through the night. “I want you to do something.” He paused and looked forward, feeling the fresh, cold air brush through his hair, making a small lock find place to rest on his forehead. “I want you to tell me more stories. About us. It’s like.. I can’t get tired of hearing them. I want to know more. I want that.” He finally then looked at Drew again. His green eyes full of plea as he took in the sight while letting shoulder to arm touch each other in a soft bump.
“You’re welcome. I complain about chilly weather a lot more than the summertime heat. Even though I can’t stay out in the sun all day because I never tan just burn. I have noticed you favor the color black. I like it, it suits you. Hmm, I don’t remember what age I was when I first got invited to one but I didn’t go unless it was a close friend’s party and I happened to be home. Using the when you’re older line sounds like a good idea. Yup, and if you need help with Elisabeth’s next birthday party I would be happy to.”
“See, that’s one of my many problems as well. That’s all so why I never stay out long either, I just can’t seem to get the right kind of tan. Haha, thank you. Elisabeth thinks I should wear more red, because she says it suits me. She just thinks I should wear more colours in general. Right? I think in the younger age, it’s best to just throw something easy. And thank you, i’d definitely keep that in mind though she hasn’t said anything.”
“You’re not going to dare me into this. You’re sixteen, I’m twenty six. Doesn’t that bother you?”
“Doesn’t look that way, ‘uh? Does it bother you still?”
‘’I love you.“
“She doesn’t know how good she has it. I really dread the day when she decides she’s too old to take naps, that’ll make it even harder for me to take one. True she’s been going to birthday parties all school year so she is getting sick of waiting for her turn. I didn’t really have that problem but I definitely had the it’s not warm enough outside issue. One time my parents took my friends and me ice skating to celebrate my birthday though. I think there’s advantages and disadvantages no matter what time of the year it is, the summer babies get to have pool parties but do their classmates even come to them? Eli, I’d love some help if you really don’t mind. Thank you! There will probably be a lot of setting up involved.”
“Right, I haven’t really paid that mind.. Thanks for telling me. Really? I never think it’s ‘too hot’ outside, i’, always melting in warm weather─ mostly also because almost every single thing I own is black. I think a pool party would be popular, but i’m not so sure among younger kids? Maybe when they turn sixteen or something. I would probably lean more against a normal backyard party though. Exactly, it’s a mess to do by yourself.”
“Goodnight, Eli.”
“Really? That’s it? I had expected more from Drew Torres.”
Another day,
“Thanks, it means so much.”
“Well, none of the nights are worth it to me. I’m just ready to get out of this place. It’s so cold all the time. Everything is cold.”
“Well then why don’t you go? I can’t see why you’re holding back now.”
“Look I don’t know what you think’s going to come of this but I-.. I can’t let this happen.”
“What I think comes out of this?─ Me paying you back for the smokes.”
Another day,
“Yeah, you’re right. I do complain a lot. That’s my cross to bear.”
“Goldsworthy, if you think that we’re gonna catch a break after graduation, you must be way more delusional than anyone thought.”
“Well, good luck with that.”
“Who said it was going to be a long break. But since you put it that way, the answer is never. Unless you don’t consider evenings of cosy snuggling under a blanket, reading a book or watching tv as ‘a break’”
“Yeah Lucy’s super excited about turning 6. I’m pretty sure I saw her writing a list of presents she wants but she hid it from me. She knows it’s too early. It does seem to be important to her. Thank you! For all I know she’s right and her birthday will fall on a sunny 90 degrees day. If not I’ll be prepared to go as far as setting up the inflatable pool in a room that doesn’t have carpet like the garage.”
“It’s always excited growing until you reach that age where being five and taking naps whenever wanted, is all you really want to have back. I understand though, all the others are reaching that age and it’s not fun to be the youngest. I’ve never really been much of a follower, but I remember that from own experiences. Well, if you ever need some help with the arrangements then i’d be happy to help!”
Another day,
Another bullshit assignment from Dawes. Pretty over all of this stuff I have to do. We’re seniors, aren’t we occasionally supposed to catch a break?
goldselijah
“You complain an awful lot, you know that?”
“Also, isn’t senior year the hardest of all? You’re going to catch a break once you walk out of those doors for good.”
