The crew drew a blank thankful to await their captains orders. It would be better than explaining how freaked out the lot of them were to the woman before them. Roger took a step back trying to put things together in his mind as he sheathed ace. Caution came as she so easily explained her position in sorts. It brought more questions than answers. Roger never taking his gaze off her sighed confusion written across his features. Relaxing his pose he decided against fleeing on command to his crew. The Captain folded his arms beginning with the obvious first issue.
“Are ya fleeing or rushing towards somethin’? On that note, you seem quite at ease and I can’t help but find that a bit alarming. I am Gol Roger, and they are my family and crew. This world is full of wonders but you don’t exactly seem to fit anything I have ever seen. More importantly, if you are fleeing kindly lead off with an explanation of whatever god forsaken thing is going to come out of that door after you. This world is troubled enough I’d like to not be caught off guard again, unless of course you are the “thing!!”
She could tell that he was a bit wary of her. She didn’t blame him. She wasn’t even sure what she would do if she were placed in his position, so she just appreciated that he was being levelheaded about all of this. Although… whenever someone was on the calmer side after witnessing her abilities it usually meant that she had stumbled into a world with far more bizarre powers. Oh dear…
She turned around at the mention of door, raising her hand up to shut out her portal. “Nothing– Anymore.” The mention of his world being troubled enough intrigued her. She felt a bit bad too. She was cursed to have the Wild Hunt chase her and leave destruction in their wake. She didn’t want to bring harm to this world, but she needed to protect herself and hide away just as much. “I’m fleeing.” She stated, looking back at him before her gaze fell, “I’m always fleeing.”
She mulled over her options in her head before choosing to be more open about what was going on, “Well Roger, you seem like a good fellow yeah? I don’t usually tell people as it’s rather difficult for some from other worlds to grasp, but I feel as if you’ve been witness to many odd things.” She peered up at the towering man, chancing the question, “Has your world ever heard of the Wild Hunt? Many have. Myths and legends spanning across dimensions.”
Roger was silent as she spoke listening close to the details. When she mentioned being hunted down constantly roger felt a bit of compassion to the story told but didn’t comment. He instead nodded understanding but this was none of his concern. They were on the hunt for something specific and he had already wasted enough time.
“No!”
Roger answered softly though he had an idea of what this “wild hunt” consisted of and the woman before him wasn’t his concern so he simply scratched his head.
“Care to elaborate a bit though, I’d assume you would be the hunted and the hunter chasing you is probably some god forsaken creature who actually poses either a good game or dangerous levels of power you honestly fear. I am unfortunately on my own mission, join me and I’ll protect you should it deem necessary otherwise I would wish you the best. There is a thin line between the hunted and the hunter if you have been playing the same game for a while then change it up a bit. Could be fun.”
Roger moved past without another word leaving the choice completely up to her. They hunted down something that would help change the world forever and he wasn’t exactly the type to take his eye off the ball nor would he explain his own position to one he had just met. Just then a bit of curiosity piked as he turned back Rayleigh facepalming a bit. The first mate knew Roger wouldn’t just walk away from a lady in trouble.
“Can I inquire? Do you have the ability to open those “doors” at will and can you control where it spits you out at?”
Rayleigh moved forward his eyes silently pleading with her not to encourage his antics. Roger gave no time towering over her with a half cocked smirk amused in his own formulating plan.

The future king shot a quick glare to the other catching his joke, a finger lifting in response before his lips clamped shut not able to come up with anything better. It was then his features lit up in humor and Roger fell into a fit of laughter, his hand planting firmly behind him deciding against explaining further for the sake of perfect humor.
☠“The land of gold!”☠
It was actually stolen in a plunder. Apparently, their plan in approach was to take the Jolly Roger and trade it back for the Oro Jackson. Another story came to mind but was halted in his throat when the realization dawned on him of whom he conversed. He certainly wasn’t going to give whitebeard more ammo. The Captain decided it was best not to admit to Newgate that they were caught off guard in the first place. Too many questions would come with a certain taunt Roger was sure of. He opted against his story with a smile and if he didn’t answer in other than the obvious then Newgate would eventually find his way to the same answer. Pointing Roger flashed a quick smile to the family seal stamped onto the side of the dark wood engraved with a tiny brand.
☠“The stamp is a family seal traced back to the country.”☠
Lifting the gourd up by the twisted rope holding it out for the honors of popping the cork to a new brand.
☠Sake, from the land of Wano I presume and I bet it’s gonna be good!!☠
Land of Gold. The title sounded familiar to him, taking Newgate back to a time period that in most cases he preferred not to dwell on. Land of Gold. Wano. Xebec had spoken about such a place once hadn’t he? Newgate himself had never visited it.
“I see.” He noted, reaching out to take the large gourd of alcohol. The cork gave little resistance in the face of his strength, a satisfying pop reaching the sake loving pirate’s ears. “We’ll be the judge of that.” In a gesture of goodwill and respect, Newgate poured Roger’s drink before filling up his own cup. As large as the gourd was, it would not last long in-between the two of them it seemed.
Newgate raised the large cup to his nose, breathing in the pleasant aroma of the alcohol before tasting it. It lit up his taste buds and he knew almost immediately that this couldn’t be the last time he’d experience such a taste. It would be such a shame if it was.
“…Do they export this stuff?” Was the first thought that came to his mind, clearly taken aback that he had never heard of it before. “Good find, Roger. It should be called The Land of Sake… which makes me wonder how abundant in gold it is for the title to be otherwise.”
Roger shrugged guessing that anything that made it out of Wano to another land could be considered exported on pirate terms. After all they were but humble merchants or the sea. A brow raised and he nodded in answer laughing a bit his teeth showing to answer in half sarcasm.
“I doubt it! Wano is a land of culture and creativity so most things to make it out this far are certain to hold promise. I’ll make you a deal Newgate! If I come across it then I will hold it and if you can get it off the Oro Jackson safely then it’s yours in quantity!”
Roger knew he would end up sharing his drinks as they always did in deadlock so he was basically promising his rival to keep an eye out for it that and he’d be returning to Wano eventually.
“Indubitably, though only thing better is the mixed bathhouses you tend to get a surprise or two so when you go to Wano find the brand label and take it straight to the bathhouse. It makes for an unforgettable night!”
The Captain teased not mentioning that he never intended to fall through the wall and panicked for about ten minutes before being told the wall is able to fold back because it was a mixed bathhouse.
Pouring his own drink he smiled a bit and gave a quick glance back certain that Newgate would never go to a mixed bathhouse. He’d more picture the Captain blushing or fainting with a nosebleed. The imagery brought forth a fit of laughter and Roger threw his head back roaring in his own self humor.
“Yes!!! I’ll even give you a map but you have to visit a mixed bathhouse they’d absolutely love you!”
He couldn’t help but continue his fit of laughter barely able to finish the statement in between his breaths of air.
“AH HA HA HA HA HA AH HA HA HA!”
Roger had been to Wano in youth but didn’t do much more than supply and waste his time finding versions of troubles. It was a beautiful and prosperous land that Roger adored and respected. He intended to return one day. The last time he had gone he wore a strawhat on his back and was full of energy and a sense of adventure.

Stubborn was the word that was given in explanation and he then had a better idea. Silence fell between them as the pirate king moved from the closet to inquire.
☠“We could go to a play, heard it’s a tragedy and it’s supposed to be pretty good!”☠
The wide smile was cast before he held out a book to tell her the title of said play. It was presented from across the world and was supposed to be very praised. What he didn’t tell her was he intended to steal the tickets to preserve the need for funds. The pirate king still pulled various stunts but by now was smooth enough to go unnoticed.
☠Just figured, you know, since the mayor will have my head for picking flowers we could find some real entertainment. Either that, or I’ll sneak us in and we will still find the beat seat in the house I just know I don’t wanna lay here all day.☠
At the mention of a play, Rouge’s interest was piqued. It would surely be a nice change of pace from the library. She had heard of the travelling show that made its stop on Baterilla a few days ago. She enjoyed a good show, however there was a small shift in her expression at the mention of it being a tragedy.
Long and delicate fingers took hold of the book being held out to her, honey eyes glancing across the title. Hm. She had read this story a long while ago, so maybe it would still be nice to go see the play, even with all the depressing themes involved.
“You will do no such thing!” She chided at the mention of sneaking in without paying, her face flushing red in her fluster. She tapped his shoulder with the book as she continued, “They’re just play tickets. We have more than enough to pay for them!” She was more than well aware that Roger was comfortable with crime- being the most renowned pirate of course, but that didn’t mean she wanted to commit petty crimes on her own home island. In terms of stealing or not paying what was owed, Rouge herself had never done something like that.
Instinctually, he raised his hands in defense laughing a bit to her chide. She had taken the fun out of it and even while sick Roger wanted to live freely and proud. Though he had already done that he now had to learn to adjust giving an obedient nod.
“Alright and they have many choices perhaps we can find something to watch or do. I promise I’ll pay the dues properly, I however, can’t promise to behave!”
He teased with an even wider smile placing both hands up to show he had not crossed his fingers or fibbed in any manner. He was honestly excited to spend time with her and always desired to see her smiling.
“They’re overpriced anyways. All because it’s supposed to be renowned it’s not like we’re doing them any favors by paying!”
He murmured turning to select his attire/disguise whirling back around with a bright red suit and a cane and hat tapping her playfully on the shoulder with a tease.
“If I go like this won’t I look like a noble? Good evening madam mind if I….. wait, no, that’s not right. Never-mind, the moment is gone shoulda thought of a good joke first!”
Roger remarked quickly changing to wear something less flashy careful not to draw too much attention to them in public.

Roger didn’t have much time to warn them of the shift of energy in the air before the heavens spit out a girl right in front of them. When the portal opened hurling a beauty out at their feet he jumped back startled. His heartbeat pounded in his ear as the seconds passed the captain trying to process the events in his mind completely distracted from their mission.
☠"What the fu……….“ -Roger quickly caught himself not one to be so caught off guard to curse without rage.-☠
The Rogers were stunned and even Roger’s mouth hung to the ground in pure shock. He had seen many things in his time but this was certainly something new for him.

Clearing his throat he scratched his head placing the hat back onto his head. That was a hell of entrance and impressive was the word that came to mind. He flashed an uncertain smile extending a hand to help the poor woman to her feet.

It was always a bit of an… awkward thing when someone witnessed her space hopping. The reactions were a mixed bag. Some that came from worlds with mysterious powers didn’t question it much, while others had their worldview completely shattered.
This guy’s face was pretty funny though. His jaw practically hung to the floor as he tried to process what he had just seen. His friend too. As he finally gathered his words and didn’t seem to immediately jump to murder-mode, Ciri’s face lifted, keeping her presence light and friendly.
“Well then it’s nice to meet you good sirs!” She greeted the both of them in an exaggerated manner, giving a small curtsy as the cherry on top of the playful act. “I can assure you, that you are in fact not dreaming! I’m Ciri. And you?”

Roger didn't glance back as he sailed only casting cares to his adventures. In time, everything grew even his family had grown larger and even their ship was now big enough to host them all in their own world.
These gifts he cherished dearly every morning that he woke and threw the straw-hat upon his head. A few hopes and dreams alongside a few scars pushed them deeper out at sea brushing against danger in every move. The Rogers became bolder with each encounter pushing forward with the hopes of exploring the entire world in their own way. They stumbled into troubles they had nothing to do with but had to get involved in the end. The will of D. carried him across the world with a march of pride his name growing with each pass.
A certain Jolly Roger had become quite the talk and even Roger was curious as to why every ship with a decent crew sailed for that particular flag, never to return.
☠"Sounds like a ghost ship to me!"☠
He remarked studying the flowered jolly roger as it whipped in the wind before them noting nothing out of the ordinary. A tilt of his head was given as he inspected the ship rocking against the waves.
"Roger, they say these women are ruthless and not to be taken lightly."
Roger snapped back in awe of his first mates research. Rayleigh had done it yet again and he could not help but be impressed as first mate folded his arms over his chest his scope in hand.
☠"How do you know there are women onboard that ship?"☠
Rayleigh then handed him the scope pointing out the tender care given recognizing a woman's touch and passion in results of care.
"Because she nurtures that ship like her own child and I advise we proceed with caution. The beauty of legends is probably a force to be reckoned with!''
Before the last warning was given the Captain gave the order to approach directly bringing a dramatic sigh from the first mate. Roger simply wanted to see the siren of the seas that had quickly become the biggest unground talk of pirates.

The captain rushed past her with a loud roar of laughter the straw-hat bouncing about on his back as he threw a quick thumbs up to her headed back to the Oro Jackson. Roger carried two bottles in his arms and a large filled bag thrown over his back content with his newest collection.
"AH HA HA HA HA HA HA"
Rouge whipped around as she watched that strawhat menace rush past her... on her ship. With her rum.
He better run or so help him
"Get back here, Roger!" She chased him, grabbing the nearest item and aiming at his head. She was pleased when it found her mark
Again laughter erupted from the captain before the wind was knocked out of him with a thud. That was right! This woman has a habit of throwing things with decent aim. Rubbing the back of his head he bent down to pick up the item tossing it into his bag with the rest of his stolen goods.
"Imma keep that too and be careful doll you'll break the rum bottles"
Gotcha!
The young captain used that moment to clear the distance between them, pouncing on his back. Hooking her arms around his right forearm, she used his confusion and a kick to his legs to pull him down to the deck.
"For the record, I'm not your doll"
Ahh yes, he had forgotten, nicknames didn't suit her fancy and was a good way to end up in a fist fight with the beauty. Roger couldn't help but snicker before the breath was knocked out of him once more. The weight now on his back he had not expected, the pirate bursting in laughter.
"AHH HAAA AHHH HAAA, Rouge its a Pirates life for me! Don't make it personal"
He was of course teasing her in words enjoying their relationship. She was fast and determined but before he could respond he found himself scrambling for the footing that was now gone. With a thud the future king hit the wood of the deck while trying to fend off the woman he had provoked. It was perfect and he couldn't help but smile and laugh in attempts to block her efforts while securing the bag at the same time.
"Awww, come on Rouge, you know I cant lift a finger against you directly, that's cheating!"

Ciri fell through the portal just in time, escaping the Wild Hunt once more. Hopefully this time for longer than a mere few days. She unfortunately got separated from Avallac’h in the process, but she was sure they’d find their way back to each other. He had just been dropped somewhere else in this new world.
She slowly got to her feet, brushing the dirt off her legs as she took in her surroundings. It was then that her eyes landed on what looked to be a giant of a man- so close in height to the Aen Elle that it had startled her for a moment.
He definitely wasn’t an elf though and so she straightened herself, placing a hand on her hip as she said sheepishly, “You… Just saw all of that didn’t you.”

Roger raised a brow his voice echoing out in laughter as he rounded the shore carefully moving through the trees and cloak of night. The jolly roger whipping in the wind brought a wide smile to the old man's greyish wrinkled features. He squatted to watch as they dispersed in their separate ways noting the fact that shanks no longer had the hat and it was in fact his straw hat bouncing around with the rubber boy and the straw-hats. This was going better than he had hoped and he could not help but be taken back by joy. In assumption he couldn't come face to face with Shanks or any of the others certain he'd be recognized even by voice with that kids sharp senses.
Moments later, as he had done in youth the pirate king lept over the rail moving in a light stroll as he glanced about deciding where to start in his personal plunder. Roger knew she was present and cast no cares making certain to avoid her and count how long it would take for her to realize she wasn't alone simply for humor. He made his way along with a bag tossed over his back. He'd collect things here and there for the purpose of humor adding a quick couple of bottles of alcohol along the way with a soft chuckle. There was a dance in his step as he moved about making his way down the hall a distant thought.
☠"Now then, lets see if we cant do this without too much of a mess this time. Id hate to have to fend off too much after such a beautiful sunset!"☠

Roger took his seat the chest in his lap held by trembling fingers. Now that he set across from Ace he realized what Rouge had meant when she accused him of used casting their son out to the grasp of the devil. He hung his head and simply stretched out his arms to interrupt the sharp teenage response.
☠“We have decided to let you chase your future as you see fit but only if you agree to our terms. We will go find Whitebeard and you WILL stay with him until you are old enough to build your own crew.”☠
As he said the last part in blessing as he held up the key to add the next part of his blessing.
☠“In this chest is something that you can either choose to accept or leave here, either way I am certain you will do well out there. It is a devil fruit that I collected back during my travels. I never had the need for such a thing but again it is entirely up to you. It will grant you immense power but steal your ability to swim!”☠
☠“Happy Birthday Ace!’☠
He added quickly before allowing his mother to give her wishes pulling the boy into a dramatic embrace. Roger had a mind to comment on her dramatic behaviors but was sure to get slapped in front of their son should he find himself brave enough to jest. He was excited to finally get to return to the seas himself for a bit and finding Newgate would be no easy task.
The chest presented to him was fancy enough, but what treasure it held, Ace had no idea. Roger’s words had caught him off guard. Ace had always thought he would never be allowed to set sail because of how his parents felt about Pirates and how rough the sea can be. Turns out Ace was wrong. They supported him and he hadn’t even realized it. Although it would be under their terms, he was still excited to get out and see the world, to live with more freedom than any man on this Earth, that was his goal in life. Accepting the key and chest, Ace wondered what exactly his father could have meant. Curious, he opened the chest and his eyes went wide. Inside was a devil fruit, Roger hadn’t been lying. “These are real? I thought they were just a legend!”
Roger beamed bright laughing out loud to his son's words. He had an entire world of wonders waiting for him and even against Rouge’s advice they had no choice but to release him to find his own destiny.
He nodded quickly pointing to explain before the glare dug into his side advising roger not to give the kid more ammo to find trouble in explanation . Roger had a bad habit of doing such things and could not help but laugh pulling back his hand. The former pirate folded his arms over his chest with a raised brow deciding to give him a small explanation.
☠“They are very real and so are many other things out there but I will warn most things come with a price, be careful of the choices you make. Now with Newgate you will find yourself a better chance to learn and grow use it.”☠
He explained standing to his feet before tapping the back of the chest to close it with a single finger.
☠“I will wake you early so we can try to figure out where he would be at a time like this. Do not eat that until you fully understand what it is!”☠
He ordered his voice sharp leaving no room for misunderstanding as he dropped a large book on devil fruits onto the teens desk. He was certain his son would not sleep after hearing such things but that would be his choice in how he spent his romance dawn. Pulling the door behind him he ducked quickly dodging the hand that stretched out to whack him. Hands were pushed out in protest the dangerous glare bringing a bit of laughter earning him another pop.
“Roger, he had better be fine out there or I will end you and collect my bounty from the world government!”
Roger laughed harder, not able to hold back his response in sarcasm.
☠“But……..aren’t you wanted too? That’s right! you're in no position to collect my bounty anyways you’re a pirate too! I should turn you in for being so difficult shoulda just let the kid choose his fate then you wouldn’t have wasted so much time explainin’ why he shouldn’t.” ☠

A promise was given but he would never worry her in such a way. It was much like with his crew except the woman before him could read him like a book from first glance. He moved lifting his hands to take hers with a mind to playfully pull her into the bed in tease. They were soft and warm and he couldn’t help but laugh feeling a bit bad for worrying her so. Those long pauses and worried gaze often forced the pirate to offer a bit of humor.
☠“We can take our time, enjoy the flowers and scenery along the way that way we don’t push so hard but don’t assume me too weak to walk, my dear. Maybe we can even pack a decent lunch to share!”☠
The suggestions continued as he rose to stand beside her pulling her into a hug. He released her only because he had to dress and prepare himself without the hat and coat. He’d just be an ordinary villager with no worries cast to the ever changing world.
A soft smile finally made it’s way to her lips at his suggestion, and the tension in her muscles left as he pulled her into a hug. “If we keep picking the hibiscus, the mayor may start fining us.” Her eyes closed as she giggled and she wished that they could stay that way a little longer, but she let him go as he prepared for their little trip.
“I don’t think you’re weak.” She said, voice gentle as he dressed himself. He was one of the strongest men she ever laid his eyes on. In fact she was sure any normal man would have passed away from the same illness long ago, too bedridden and sickly to move. Not wanting to dampen the mood further she tacked on as a joke, “I wouldn’t have given you the time of day if you were.”
Stubborn was the word that was given in explanation and he then had a better idea. Silence fell between them as the pirate king moved from the closet to inquire.
☠“We could go to a play, heard it’s a tragedy and it’s supposed to be pretty good!”☠
The wide smile was cast before he held out a book to tell her the title of said play. It was presented from across the world and was supposed to be very praised. What he didn’t tell her was he intended to steal the tickets to preserve the need for funds. The pirate king still pulled various stunts but by now was smooth enough to go unnoticed.
☠Just figured, you know, since the mayor will have my head for picking flowers we could find some real entertainment. Either that, or I’ll sneak us in and we will still find the beat seat in the house I just know I don’t wanna lay here all day.☠
