Keyword Response:

For this final response I chose to reblog "Freedom", "Post 6 Keyword (Freedom)", and "Spatial Observation #6 (Sweet Cottage Cafe). As I was reading through all the "Keyword" posts, I realized that many enjoyed doing this activity. I agree with them because it was a relaxing homework that we had the choice to observe whatever space we wanted to. I like how we chose our space because it made it more interesting for us.

The first post I rebloged was "Freedom". In this post, this person describes their space as free because it is outside. I think it is really unique how a space can play with emotions. I really liked how this person said that it was a free space because they did not feel confined. I think this is really important to categorize a space as confined or free. Boundaries can give a space a confined feeling.

The next post I rebloged was "Post 6 Keyword (Freedom)". This person also described their space as free. This made me think a lot of this space and the first one I rebloged and I compared them to mine. Both of these persons said that the word to describe their space was "freedom" because they were both outside. I also described my space as free, but my space was my bedroom. They are so different but everyone interprets things in different ways. This space was free because anyone could chose what to do and also chose at what time to do whatever it was they wanted to because it is a public space. 

The last post I rebloged was "Spatial Observation #6 (Sweet Cottage Cafe)". The Keyword for this post was "inviting". I think that this is the perfect word to describe a Cafe in Chico. I think that everyone in Chico is friendly and is willing to lend a hand to others. I think that another good word to describe the Sweet Cottage Café can be diverse. There are many types of people that go there. I can also be described as colorful. There are many different colors that give it a vibrant feeling and it makes people not feel depressed.

This was the last post and I think that all of these assignments were very interesting. I learned a lot about the space I chose. But do we know the answer to the question posted up on the overhead the first day of class; what is freedom?

Keyword:

This is the last post of the semester and I have acquired a lot more knowledge on my space. I would have not paid attention to the little things prior to doing these assignments. These assignments made me realize that I was wrong thinking my space was quiet and the best place to do homework. The term that most characterizes my space is "freedom". This word can have different meanings! With my room, I had the freedom to bring white walls to life. I had the opportunity to decorate it with colorful posters, and pictures. In my room, I also have the freedom to do whatever I want to. It's my own personal space. Weather it is listening to music, singing out loud, or even just being myself. I could be my dorky self behind these walls and not have to worry about being judged by other people. My room post reminds me of "Corners", and made me think why do I spend so much time in my room? Why is it that people decorate their room the way that they do? The Medieval Maps lecture also made me think a lot about my space. For example, why is it that I included all the things that I did in my drawing of my room? The Song of Roland made me think of the boundaries of my room. My room has wall boundaries that separate the outside hallway from my room. It also has boundaries inside; my side from my roommates side. This class has made me question everything and ask myself why it is the way that it is. This is a good thing because it made me realize things that are not so obvious and made me dig deeper.

Storyboard Response:

For post number five I choose to re-blog posts that are related to nature. Every time I see myself re-blogging posts dealing with nature. I don't know what it is but pictures that capture nature's scenery are always so unique and perfect. I re-blogged "In One's Element", "Into the creek we go!", and "What do we consider beautiful?". All of these pictures were so perfect and exposed a part of someone's space. Everyone's space has a different meaning to the person taking the pictures and the person looking at the pictures. I think that it is unique that I can look at these pictures and interpret them in whatever way I choose to. 

"In One's Element" captures the beauty in someone's back yard. I would love to live in this person's house. There is so much green. All the trees in the back yard add a touch of wilderness. I love how this person included a picture of their dog because their dog is definitely an element that plays a huge role in the backyard. My favorite thing in the backyard is the picture drawn of the trees. This makes their backyard so personalized and it adds a sense of belonging with the names written on the fence. When I first saw the picture of the grill the first thing that I thought of was my family. We would always get together and BBQ in my backyard. I really like how these pictures were taken when there was still sun. Now, it's rainy and the pictures would not have had the same meaning if they were taken now.

"Into the creek we go!" captured the beauty of the Chico creek. This space is so big and has many aspects to it. There is the main thing, which is the actual lake. One of the pictures shows someone in the lake. Another picture shows trees and rocks. This picture really captures the enormousness of Bidwell. I see trees as far as the image extends. It's a beautiful image. The other pictures just show the lake. The current looks like it is very strong. But it looks like a peaceful place to relax and have lots of fun with friends. 

The last blog I re-blogged was "What Do We Consider Beautiful?" This title caught my eye and made me think. What do we consider beautiful? We all have a different meaning of what beauty is. For example, I think that nature is beautiful, but other people might not think the same as me. In the pictures, it is a cloudy day. I think that this gives this place a cozy feel. This space looks really relaxing and quiet. When I look at the pictures I just think that it would be the perfect place to do homework. 

All the pictures taken were all so unique and captured people's spaces perfectly. I really enjoyed being able to see more about everyone's space. When looking through the pictures, I put them all together in my head like a jigsaw puzzle to try and imagine what someone's space entirely looked like.

Response to Post 4:

I chose to reblog three different videos that were all very similar. I rebloged "Roaming in Roses", "The Campus Creek" video, and "Upper Bidwell". I found it incredible that all these places demonstrate the beauty of Chico. This is such a small city and its hard to picture that there would be so much beauty and nature here. All we have to do is walk outside and we will see nature's beauty.

In "Roaming the Roses" the writer says that this is the perfect place to go and relax. I totally agree with her because its such a beautiful scene. I feel like this is a scene that would appear in a romantic movie. I love that when I am walking to class I get the aroma of the roses. It's a intense smell and it smells so beautiful. It's amazing that those flowers can produce that smell that is so intense and can be smelled yards away. The only thing I hate is that some people smoke by there and ruin the beautiful rose smell. The rose garden is so big and there are many roses with different colors, shapes, etc. When I walk through the little trails in the rose garden I feel like I am away from all the noisy people and can gaze at the beauty of the roses. This is one of my favorite places of our campus. I think we are all very fortunate that our campus is among one of the prettiest.

The video of "The Campus Creek" also demonstrated the beauty of our campus. The leaves, rocks, water running make it so unique. I had not actually gone down to the creek and stood there for a while to observe it until very recently. I noticed how it feels almost like a different world. By the creek, the sound of people talking was cancelled by birds chirping sound. I thought that it was really interesting how my view changed. At first I just thought that the creek was pretty when I walked by it going from class to class. When I actually stopped and stood by the water I realized that this place is special. It's such a big part of nature and it's incredible. 

The last video I rebloged was "Upper Bidwell". This place is not on campus but it also perfectly demonstrates the beauty of Chico. I liked that this person wrote about her place but taking a different approach. She wrote about her place being composed of different things. For example, she said that it's not only rocks and trees, that there is more to it. The sound of the water makes it more of a relaxing place. Little things like this can give different meanings to places. This place looks a lot of fun to go and just hang out with friends. 

All the posts I chose to reblog were very different from my own. My place was more confined and it was inside. I like that all these places show a little bit of what goes on in Chico. It gives others a sense of nature's beauty.

I chose to take a video of myself and some friends walking to my space rather than of my actual space. I did this to show what one might have to go through to get to my space. While walking to my space as you can see there are so many rocks you have to jump over and climb. All the jumping and climbing is hard work for some people like me but it is fun. While walking you can hear the water flowing by, I did show some parts where you can look over and see the actual creek; I did this to show that walking to my space is not all rocks and trees. It may not look as nice but once at the actual spot of my space it’s a beautiful view. The couple that passed by were actually really nice people. As I said before my space is a good place to hang out with friends or just relax, you can meet people and have a good time. Right after I stopped recording we met more people and we all just hung out swimming and having a fun time altogether.

Roaming in Roses

This is my video of me walking through my chosen space, the George Petersen Rose Garden. Not much noise can be heard in the background throughout the video except the sound of my footsteps. At one point, a man can be seen and heard in the video talking on his cell phone about the Giants baseball team winning the World Series yesterday. Also, the faint sound of birds flying around and chirping in the background can be heard. The main focus of the video was to showcase the roses, and how many different colored and sized roses there are. The rose garden is a perfect place to go if you want to relax for a bit because, as you can tell from the video, at certain times during the day when not many people are out and about, the environment is very calming and can be a stress reliever. On a day like today, when the wind is blowing slightly, the smell of the roses can be detected anywhere you walk in the garden. Narrow rock pathways can be seen in the video too, which allow people to easily walk through the garden and see all of the roses and birds and bees that often frequent the roses.

I had to shorten this video to about 50 seconds because my 60 second video was too large to upload. 

Walking through this space calms me down because I just think it is so peaceful. From the creek water flowing down the stream to the birds singing in the trees. It all seems to hide the collection of voices that murmur in the background. I started my walk through this space by the water because that is my favorite place to be. The white noise created by the distant water hitting the rocks below my feet as I stand on the quiet little beach. The sand crumbles beneath my shoes as I walk along the beach and the leaves crunch as I walked back up the steep hill that leads back to campus. On top of the hill is where I saw the Chico State emblem and its dedication below it. The sun reflects its light through the trees as it creates a glistening effect on the water.  My journey on this path ends with the view of caution tape and a metal gate that warns students and staff to not cross the bridge. This is where the most recent tree fell, causing the bridge to collapse into the creek below, which flows on back to me in my space.

Pictures Symbolize My Life:

My room is a very special space for me. It is very colorful and there are many pictures on the walls. The pictures are of me and my family and friends. Whenever I am missing my family and friends I look at these pictures and then I remember all the fun adventures we went on. The pictures in my room have a lot of meaning behind them. I look at them and they take me back in time; like a time machine. Some take me to a very special night, prom. Others take me to adventures me and my family took to San Francisco. Others are just of me and my friends being guffy. I love these pictures because a special moment in time was captured and they are now displayed in my space. These pictures are the memories I have and my walls would be bare without them. this video also shows a caricature of my sister, my niece, and myself. This drawing makes me laugh every time that i see it because our bad features are exaggerated. I find it weird how pieces of paper can make such a big difference in my life and can be so important and meaningful.
