This last space post had to be one of my favorites because you got to see what everyone thought about their space and how it related to the class. For me my space reminded me of the word peaceful, it was a place where I could go and just be alone and think. I related this to the class by saying that every reading that we looked at there was some sort of peace trying to be made.

The three posts that I re-blogged were all talking about different aspects of their space. I agreed with the person that said that this exercise made them look at things differently because we had to take the time to look at the details of a space. They then talked about the boundaries of their space and related it back to the class.

One of the posts that I re-blogged was talking about beauty and it was interesting to see everyone’s different interpretations of beauty. In this particular post they thought that the Café that they had as their space was beautiful.

I liked the post that talked about freedom because I know this was a big topic in this class and related to almost everything that we talked about. She talked about how she had freedom in the aspect that she could do what ever she wanted to her space. There was also another post that I re-blogged talked about freedom also. They talked about freedom in the way that they could do whatever they wanted in the space as far as their actions go. They could be their selves and be comfortable and also decorate their space however they wanted because it was theirs. I thought that this post related to mine in the way that she talked about freedom. My space also had a sense of freedom to it but in a kind of restricted way, because you can do a lot but not everything. Both of our spaces are owned by other people and even though she can be free in her space she can not do crazy things to her space because at some point that space will no longer be hers. Just like with my lake her apartment is the same way.

The post that used the word inviting to describe their space was very interesting. Their space was limited in the fact that it was in a public space so they could only see it when permitted by the owner. But their space was still inviting and I can say that this also relates to my space because I always had a very comfortable and inviting feeling when I went to my space. The blogger then went on to talk about the beauty of the space and that definitely relates to my space because I really thought my space was beautiful. Our posts were different in the way that her space was inside a building and mine was outside. But both of our spaces were limited spaces because they did not belong to us. They belonged to other people but we got the opportunity to enjoy them and make the space our own in some regards.

There are so many words that came to my mind and appeared in my past posts that described my space, such as relaxing, warming, cheerful, and hip but I feel those were just simple adjectives. If I had to choose a word to dedicate to the Sweet Cottage cafe, it would have to be inviting. Inviting...

Post 6

Over the course of this semester I have linked my space with the word peace. Every time I went out to my space to do an observation post it just felt peaceful. It was just quiet besides the sound of nature in the background and I found myself alone every time I went out there. It was the type of space that was peaceful in the way that it let you just have time to yourself in the quiet to collect your thoughts. And I think this relates well to our class because it seems like with all of our readings the characters have been seeking some kind of peace. Like with the Song of Roland they were in a religious war and that was the main thing they were looking for was victory but they also wanted peace. In Antigone, she wanted peace for her brother, she wanted to have him have the proper burial so that he was set for the after life. In Boethius, he was looking for peace of mind, and even though these aren’t necessarily the same type of peace that my space provides it is still peace.

I really enjoyed doing this post because it was really cool seeing what everyone did with their posts. I decided to re-blog three different posts rain on roses, perfect moments, and in one’s element. These posts really caught my eye because they just used really simple and beautiful pictures to show their space.          

            The in one’s element post was pretty different because they used some really pretty photos of a walk way and then they took a picture of a perfectly clear pool but then they did one really interesting photo. This was the photo of the fence, I thought that this was interesting because it wasn’t that it was beautiful or anything I just think it had meaning to the photo taker. They also took a picture of a really adorable dog that you would not have seen in that space if we didn’t do this particular post.

            The perfect moments post was another one of my favorites because of the different approach they took. They could have taken pictures of nothing but the campus but they decided to take a few shots of themselves in the space. They took a picture of their legs and their space in the background and then they took a picture of yogurt and their feet. This was really different because the other two posts and my post did not do this, we did not show ourselves in the space you just assumed that we were the ones taking the photo.

            For the last post that I re-blogged it was just a beautiful posting. Their space was the rose garden on the Chico State campus and they took lots of beautiful pictures. The one that I liked the best was the close up of the rose that had some dew on it. I just think that this space is just so beautiful and peaceful and it really shows in their photos.

            All three of these re-blogged posts were really similar to the post that I did on my space. All of the spaces that they had were outside locations just like mine. They also all had spaces that seemed really peaceful and beautiful. The only major difference between my post and two of the other posts was that they incorporated other things besides just outside into their post. Like the one person that took a picture of part of their body in the post, and the other person that showed just his or her dog in the space. I never had anyone in the space except just the space itself. I thought how it was interesting how the person that had a pool in their post had everything reflect off the water but in my post nothing showed to reflect off the water. In that persons post they were the only one that had clear weather in their pictures, all the other posts had the same cloudy weather. It is interesting that even though my post and two of the posts that I re-blogged have cloudy weather it doesn’t make them any less beautiful than the post that had the non-cloudy weather.

The first video that I decided to re-blog is interesting because it takes place in upper Bidwell Park. I thought that this post would be similar to my post showing the nature around them while they were walking, but this was not the case. This video was pointed more towards the ground the whole time and did not focus on the surrounding area like I did, also there was no talking. The second video that I re-blogged was of the fourth floor of the library at eleven at night. There was not much talking in this video except for the background noise of people working on projects. I thought that this video did a good job showing the surrounding area of their space because they walked around a lot. The third post that I re-blogged I really liked because this person chose a beautiful space. They had the rose garden and really took the time to have the camera look around at all the different flowers. This space was pretty quiet like mine was which is nice because it is a very peaceful space and very beautiful. I also like the video that was at the creek at school because it had a kind of similar space to my space. There was water which was unique to the other videos that I re-blogged. This space also had a lot of trees which is very similar to my space. I also liked how this person did not just focus on the creek itself like they went up the bank and showed the surrounding area which I thought was pretty different.

I had to shorten this video to about 50 seconds because my 60 second video was too large to upload. 

Walking through this space calms me down because I just think it is so peaceful. From the creek water flowing down the stream to the birds singing in the trees. It all seems to hide the collection of voices that murmur in the background. I started my walk through this space by the water because that is my favorite place to be. The white noise created by the distant water hitting the rocks below my feet as I stand on the quiet little beach. The sand crumbles beneath my shoes as I walk along the beach and the leaves crunch as I walked back up the steep hill that leads back to campus. On top of the hill is where I saw the Chico State emblem and its dedication below it. The sun reflects its light through the trees as it creates a glistening effect on the water.  My journey on this path ends with the view of caution tape and a metal gate that warns students and staff to not cross the bridge. This is where the most recent tree fell, causing the bridge to collapse into the creek below, which flows on back to me in my space.

Roaming in Roses

This is my video of me walking through my chosen space, the George Petersen Rose Garden. Not much noise can be heard in the background throughout the video except the sound of my footsteps. At one point, a man can be seen and heard in the video talking on his cell phone about the Giants baseball team winning the World Series yesterday. Also, the faint sound of birds flying around and chirping in the background can be heard. The main focus of the video was to showcase the roses, and how many different colored and sized roses there are. The rose garden is a perfect place to go if you want to relax for a bit because, as you can tell from the video, at certain times during the day when not many people are out and about, the environment is very calming and can be a stress reliever. On a day like today, when the wind is blowing slightly, the smell of the roses can be detected anywhere you walk in the garden. Narrow rock pathways can be seen in the video too, which allow people to easily walk through the garden and see all of the roses and birds and bees that often frequent the roses.

This is the fourth floor of the Meriam Library at 11:00PM on a Wednesday. As you can see from the video, it is not exactly packed. Usually there are quite a few more people there late, but this Wednesday happened to be the night of game 7 of the world series, so chances are most of the Giants fans were absent because they were celebrating. The video shows a few people as I’m walking back toward the elevator bank. At 11PM on a party day, only the dedicated remain.

I chose to take a video of myself and some friends walking to my space rather than of my actual space. I did this to show what one might have to go through to get to my space. While walking to my space as you can see there are so many rocks you have to jump over and climb. All the jumping and climbing is hard work for some people like me but it is fun. While walking you can hear the water flowing by, I did show some parts where you can look over and see the actual creek; I did this to show that walking to my space is not all rocks and trees. It may not look as nice but once at the actual spot of my space it’s a beautiful view. The couple that passed by were actually really nice people. As I said before my space is a good place to hang out with friends or just relax, you can meet people and have a good time. Right after I stopped recording we met more people and we all just hung out swimming and having a fun time altogether.

The view of a passerby

Walking around my space I really noticed how beautiful it is. There are lots of trees that surround the lake almost protecting it in a way. Also it was very quiet except for my footsteps and narration to the video. You could also see a perfect reflection of the sky covering the whole lake like a blanket.
