Everyone had the time. Jasper would say he didn't have time but there was always a way to squeeze something in. Mumbling along with Kovy he snuck in something about sorting out priorities to balance the time constraint.
"Yes!" He agreed with the Magick sentiment. "Isabela Madrigal have you met her? You really should touch base with her she both heads events in town and magick relations." Jasper was quite fond is Isabela which reminded him he did need to reach out and see how her new position was suiting her. Well deserved if you asked him.
"I do have a petition on my roster actually." Jasper quickly sat forward and pulled at his drawer opening it up to a cluster of folders organized by tab. Flipping through a few he found what he was looking for. "It really is a rough concept right now of course. You know I cannot push anything forward myself but I can steer the ship to port." Laying the foloder out infront of Kovu he nodded for him to open it.
"We all know about the tragic accident over at Hello Gorgeous. Miss Midler suffered quite a loss as did the community but we have an opportunity to turn this loss into a gain." Watching as Kovu went to inspect Jasper continued. "It is a sober driver program. I though the name Last Call LIft had a good ring to it. I was hoping to utilize our good sumartians in town as well as some of the Uni folk to join as a team to you know take the 24 watch to provide a safe ride home."
Jasper did think the idea was rather simple and truthfully a win win. All he needed was the leg work down - which Kovu was the perfect vessel for this. "You think this might be something you could take on?" Jaspers brow raised. "Can't believe I didn't think of you sooner mate."
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
Kovu felt his luck starting to turn around.
In the last few weeks, he'd been rather morose. Wondering if he shouldn't just call it quits and go home--and knowing at the same time, that he couldn't do that. His mother needed him here. He couldn't fuck this up for her. His whole life had been leading to this. Sometimes, he felt like his mother had only had him for this purpose.
And he didn't blame her for that. She was cunning and strong and deserved the good life she'd carved out for herself and her children.
But...he felt inadequate to fulfill her dreams the way she wanted them.
This would help. There was no way of turning this around into something vicious. And it was something that Kovu already felt rather passionately about. He didn't drink or take drugs, after all. His eyes lit up as he looked over the outline of the petition.
Even if it wasn't something he was genuinely interested in, Kovu was too well-trained to refuse such an offer. He knew better.
"This is amazing! Of course, I'd love to take it over the finish line for you. I will even sign up to be your first volunteer! I don't drink." Usually, Kovu kept that secret to himself, he didn't want people to think that he thought poorly of his mother's empire. He didn't...necessarily.
He just didn't want to get mixed up in all that.
"So, I'll always be available."
@goodeveningjasper
“Good man.” Jasper nodded approvingly. “I feel like an arse not having you as my first thought.” It had been well…his entire time in Swynlake since he had someone he could legitimately count on. The layer of minions he had running around form time to time was nice but they could never carry something of this magnitude and get any sort of town engagement.
Stefan was always a viable option as his second in command but he was handling more business in Birmingham. Kovu had to be familiar with him but Jasper was more suspicious of his connection with Kovus sister Vitani. Nevertheless he had need not worry with Kovu in town.
Everything seemed to be falling into place quite nicely.
“No need to even mention your alcohol preference or lack there of mate. I should follow your lead though - do my best work off the whiskey.” Jaspers smiled started to creep in more. “I have spoken with a Sylvia Marpole…” he looked over at his notes quickly to ensure the name was correct. “Met her over in the library at Pride University. I also have a more private donor here in town who is willing to fork over some pounds.”
Excited to see what Kovu has planned Jasper nodded again. “Why don’t you give this petition some legs yeah? We can give it a once over say in a weeks time?” Jaspers raised a questioning brow. “Plus before you go I have a few off line questions I’d like to bring up…”

Oh Jasper was impressed.
Idea.
Purpose.
Plan.
Every check in the box was there. Ambitious but nothing successful started from less. If anything he could probably find ways to talk this Phillip up some more. Really see what life was like from the top. Yet it wasn’t the time.
“A promising business venture.” Jasper answered firstly. “Prime location and the town is really missing the pub atmosphere. Stand out before you even have it started. Which also sounds like you have a plan for that as well.”
There were some questions he had about it all but Jasper tensed. Do not offer when it’s not asked. Honestly he would love to get his own money in on something of the sort but still he waited.
“Ah.” He nodded when Phillip mentioned the board member. “Well you have come to the right one mate. I would love to help with this venture in any way I can. Did you bring any of your ideas with you? Business plan?”
@knightley--phillip
“I did,” said Phillip.
He was feeling good about his meeting. Jasper seemed to be into his idea and that made Phillip feel particularly smart about picking his Board Member of choice to approach for this.
But that didn’t stop the brief flash of insecurity as he pulled out the manila folder detailing his Formal Business Plan.
The truth of the matter was Phillip did not have business experience. He was also lazy, distracted, impulsive, and short-sighted. He had a reputation — someone who liked to party, who liked a good time, and who didn’t take things all that seriously. That wasn’t even mentioning the baggage of his past, which he knew the town would scrutinize at every given moment.
But he wanted this. And he wanted what everyone thought about him to change.
“I collaborated a lot with Winston Deavor,” Phillip said, hoping that his friend’s involvement would lend him some credibility. “He’s really been like a mentor in this. I’ve never opened a business, after all, so I’m seeking guidance wherever I can.”
He figured it was best to be honest here, to show how hard he was making up for his blind spots.
@goodeveningjasper
Jasper was pleased to hear he had himself a mentor.
Grounding one’s ideas is best when there is a second or third party interest. Even if he wasn’t very versed on this Winston - Jasper wasn’t going to judge. Phillip was at least taking the right steps.
Peaking into the manilla envelope he flipped through the first few pages. Questioned started to build - judgments were being made.
“Happy to hear you have someone helping.” Jaspers eyes shifted across to the other man. For the first time his eyes dragged over the other trying to get a read on him. “You have all your Ts crossed mate but you mind if I ask you a few questions?” Jasper brow rose lightly. “I see a lot of your structure here but I guess my questions start more with you personally.”
The documents were now sitting at the desk between them.
“What do you do now for work? Are you expecting to be the one running this business every day? Some pub owners are first in last out - service industry is a beast so hear.”

Jasper nodded. Eyes almost dancing over the list as if the words floated before him.
Kovu was moving in the right direction. Jasper wouldn’t lie to just make him feel better either. There was no room for baby to the teet in their business and he know Zira would hold even his ass to the flame of he lead the lad astray. Plus Jasper took pride in his leadership.
“So you’ve got your foot in a few doors.” Jasper nodded again adjusting himself in his seat. “Which is spectacular. Interpride is a massive enterprise especially around here and I know how serious you take your position there. I’ll never compare to others but I know a lot of people have come out of there with a stellar reputation.” Jasper was thinking of Simba Lyons but would never mention the name out loud. “With a stellar reputation you see we are allowed to do whatever we want in the shadows.” Both his brows lifted as he was driving home his point.
“So you’ve got the Uni, athletics, Interpride, and what else boosting you as a fresh pillar of the community?” Jasper did the same when he arrived but with a different approach of course. “Have you looked at any petitions to get involved with? Stepped up with the magick forward groups? That’s important here in Swynlake even if new. Or how about host something yourself? Partner with a local business or gather some of your peers to really announce yourself.”
Jasper didn’t need Kovu hosting a gala but a few appearances or a chair position for smaller event and he would start to stand out.
“The town will love you.” Jasper slightly joked. “Charisma and all that - then we can really dig our claws in yeah? Build that veil to really work behind.”
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
Kovu knew that Jasper was right. That the reason he was in Swynlake was to build the exact veil that Jasper was talking about. He was supposed to want it: and he did.
He hated Simba for sending Taka to prison. He hated Simba for having such an easy, carefree life. For his success and how beloved he was. Zira had always told Kovu that all that fame, recognition, and admiration was his. He just had to take it.
And now, here he was, in the very heart of Simba's territory...
And he felt reluctant to disturb it. The town wasn't the problem, was it? Yes, hurting Simba by sweeping Swynlake out from under him was tempting. It would feel good...but the town itself didn't deserve Kovu's ire, did it?
"Right, exactly," Kovu said. "I haven't--" had much time. That was what he almost said, but Zira did not suffer excuses. And he had no reason to believe that Jasper would be any different. Even if it was true. Between his master's degree, teaching at PrideU, and a full time job at InterPride, as well as trying to integrate into things like the footie team and make friends...
He could be doing better. He knew he could. The shame swelled inside him and he took a breath.
"I am going to renew my efforts to integrating with the Magicks in town and start brainstorming some ideas for a petition or two. I'm still learning about the town's various needs, but I am confident within a month or so, I should be able to produce sufficient work. Would you be amenable to me running my idea by you before drafting an official petition to submit?"
@goodeveningjasper

Jasper loved when people came to him for advice. Most of his minions aside from Stefan didn't have the wherewithal to even though of asking for any sort of advice. Heads down and mind on the day to day - which was yes what he was asking for when it came to the help...but damn he missed it. Years of leadership really felt like it was on the horizon.
Kovu really did show up right when he needed. Jasper nodded. Yes he was aware of him being sent to Swynlake by his mother. There had to be a reason. There was always a reason.
"Well it wasn't easy." Jasper said leaning back in his desk chair and crossed his right leg over his left knee. "You cannot come to Swynlake expecting to just rule the roost. I am sure you know that things move different around here?" Jasper raised a brow. Even Jasper was sent here for a job and under the guiese of that he somehow decided he wanted to really get roots in here. "Have you started to mix with the community?" The corner of his lip twisted. "I don't mean with the coeds at the university either."
Jasper did not judge but it was in the news. Truthfully it could have been worse and honestly it was something Kovu could use...if he leveraged it right.
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
Kovu nodded seriously as Jasper spoke about how things moved differently in Swynlake.
No matter how much he had studied Swynlake's history, he hadn't really known what it meant to live here until, well, he was actually here. Everyone was so friendly. And while everyone was willing to say hello and welcome you to Swynlake, there was definitely a divide between Swynlakers and everyone else.
Kovu had no idea how to bridge that gap.
"I mean--yeah, I, uh, I'm on the community footie team. And I do a lot at the uni, teaching and stuff. Obviously, I'm at InterPride so I'm making connections there..."
As he said it, he realized it barely sounded like as much as he was doing in uni. Or like he was just repeating his uni days.

Jasper nodded. Eyes almost dancing over the list as if the words floated before him.

Jasper was impressed with the way Ms. Cruella was really catching on to what he was saying. Not only was she accepting his offer but she saw that he did know what the bloody hell he was talking about. Unlike a lot of others who floated around this town. "I think an email will do quite nicely. Honestly however you see fit will work. No matter how extensive I am sure my constituents will know exactly how to handle it."
Truthfully he too was interested in seeing what was high on her priority list.
"Oh funds won't be necessary. My pockets run deep." Jasper said proudly. "I would be honored though to call on your to help push the idea. Donors of course..." laying on the charm he knew how to really play to her ego. Which she deserved it truthfully. "...like you really will help sell it I am sure." @ice-in-her-stare
"They better. I have no tolerance for incompetent fools," Cruella informed the man. She hoped that was crystal clear. Because if it didn't work the first time she would not be impressed by them whatsoever and would bother someone else. Or take care of things herself... in a less legal fashion. She didn't particularly care.
Funds not necessary? Well look at that. It seemed Jasper was also one with deep connections or inherited wealth. How nice. "You can call upon me for this of course. I can do my part. I also have deep pockets and have no problem using it for a good cause." And not getting killed by some hooligan in the streets was definitely on the top of the list to Cruella as a good cause.
@goodeveningjasper
Jasper had a slick smile crawl over his face. This small meeting that started with Ms. Cruella on the edge of verbal murder has turned to a small partnership. At least on a surface level.
Networking at its finest. Even if the two were keeping themselves truly behind a velvet curtain.
“I will get in contact with some of my colleagues and shall run all intent back to you.” Jasper nodded taking note of his way of contacting Cruella.
“As for the petition for this sober driver initiative - I will do the same. I think with your cooperation as well as my own donating we will have nothing but success.” Jaspers smile crew to one that actually showed some teeth. “It was a pleasure meeting with you today ma’am. I would love to circle back in a short few weeks. Perhaps we meet outside the walls of Town Hall….”

Jasper was intrigued by the set up. The name Phillip Knightly had come across his many desks a few times. There was the Tom connection and any man that was friends with Thomas was a good man in his book. No matter what foolishness they had gotten into Jasper knew his foolishness was much worse.
So this meeting was welcomed.
"Ah yes Mr. Knightly. A pleasure to finally meet. Its just another Tuesday I must say." Jasper extended a hand over his desk offering a firm grip. The man was well dressed - so starting off to a good start. "Please sit sit. I would offer you something to drink but I fear us board members are out fitted with a kitchenette like I am use to at my personal office." That was a perk to having his own place to work - but being a board member was important. Jasper wasn't going to let that falter.
"So what can I help you with today?"
@knightley--phillip
“Well, you know, speaking of getting something to drink,” said Phil, not about to miss the perfect segue. “I was thinking of opening up a pub. Right where the Deer used to be. I’ve already got a few backers and I’ve got the plans for construction all set. I’m aiming to draft up a petition by the end of the month…”
Dramatic pause here.
“I’d love to have a Board member back it up — not sure if you can even ethically do something in a financial sense, but just the support in the board room would go a long way.”

keep it vintage, love ||Bad Luck
“No no it’s a good investment.” Jasper couldn’t believe he didn’t think of the idea himself. Probably because he had drawn a fine line in the sand when it came to everything Lucky and well…Lucky and his cinema he was f going to come near it with his ideas.
Crossing that line was not something he was willing to do unless asked. Like now -
“Better than renting one from the garage. I know Buster has his set of rigs over there that he would lend.” Jasper only could roll his eyes as he even lofted the idea out. “You’ll get a hefty amount of use outta this yeah?”
Watching between keeping his eyes on the road Jasper found himself curious as Lucky looked up the address. Phones were not his thing - hell he barely texted as is. “I almost had you pulling out the map I’ve got there in the bin there.” Pointing to the glove box. “We should be coming up on it then!”
@bad-moon--rising
"Yeah, things come up though, don't wanna have t'depend on askin' around th' garage all th'time." Lucky pointed out, and it wasn't just that it was more convenient but, well, it was also something he wanted.
Funny how sometimes it was the simplest things really; he'd shared a few vehicles among his siblings and cousins back home and that had been fine, hadn't given a second thought to it because it'd always been that way and he'd spent more time around home anyway so having something like that to himself didn't make much sense.
It did then, even if he wouldn't be the only one using it around the cinema and he'd had to talk himself into the idea, he was looking forward to it.
"Pretty sure I can still remember how t'drive," he joked; of course he could and honestly the roads around town were far less difficult to navigate anyway. Nothing like the dirt and gravel roads he'd been taught on; easy in comparison to those.
"Jasper, sometimes I wonder wha time yer livin' in," Lucky laughed fondly; it had always struck him a little funny all the things that Jasper held close that didn't quite mesh with the world around him. But the other man was a bit eccentric and Lucky found it endearing.
And he couldn't say much anyway; the appeal of nostalgia ran deeply in him as well.
"Yeah, next right; should be a big storage building' with a bunch of equipment in th' front," he confirmed with a glance at one of the texts with a photo of the building.
@goodeveningjasper
“Why does everyone always say that to me.” Jasper knew that he was still young but had turned away from most advances. Life had always seemed much simpler back in the day and less complicated. So why would he chase the future.
“So what I don’t keep myself glued to a screen. Maybe I feel like life would be better if everyone just unplugged for a bloody minute.” Jasper was never sure if Lucky would feel the same - he knew Scott wouldn’t. Always head first into something and far more involved than either of them with social media. Which was why the old soul of his Lucky always pulled at his heart strings.
“Sure would make everything easier.” He shrugged as he looked out the window to see what Lucky mentioned.
“Aye you’re right love the storage space is just down there.” He kept his hands on the wheel and was ready to turn into the drive.

Jaspers lips went thin immediately. Kovu was a hard seed to crack. Pressed hard in the dirt under his mother soil waiting to blossom through. The only issue with that was familiarity. This was not the first time they had worked together….let alone their history of business.
Sometimes the connection is better when you take the formal approach aside.
“I told you please call me Jasper.” It was what he went by to just about anyone. Regardless of business. “I insist we leave the formal conversations for well..anyone else.” Another reminder might do it.
The office was empty and he was sure of all other schedules.
“I wouldn’t have agreed to meet here if it wasn’t.” He nodded with a smile. “Please sit.”
@whereforeart-thou-kovu
Kovu was on high alert as he stepped into Jasper's office. He knew the man wasn't the kind to be messed with. And that he had quite a few dealings with Zira. Which meant if Kovu pissed him off, then he wouldn't just be hearing about it from whatever punishment Jasper felt fit to dole out, but also his mother would not be pleased.
So, he noticed the thin, displeased smile as soon as it appeared on Jasper's face.
"Right, Jasper," Kovu corrected with a polite nod of his head in deference.
"I just--wanted to...ask you some advice, sir," Kovu started. "As you know, my mother sent me here to integrate into Swynlake."
Jasper didn't know the why of it, of course. Though, Kovu was sure he had his theories. Kovu's lineage was a well protected secret. No one outside his mother, siblings, and father knew.
"You seemed to have done an excellent job of doing so and I know that you are experienced in such matters so...I'd be grateful for any direction on the matter."

Jasper narrowed his eyes. Honestly he could make just about anything happen.
"I know some of our local legal team." He nodded in confidence. "They were not bred here either Ma'am. They are some of Londons finest so I know with myself and the mayor plus some of my connects we could really stick it to the Slade fellow. I just need to know what you would like to see and I can get that ball rolling for you." Was it a bit harsh? Not really - he was intoxicated, caused injuries, and ruined a local business. Plus he knew that Miss Midler came from a legal family as well - so there really was no peak too high with this whole Slade situation.
" I couldn't agree more though - a retest for at least a renewal process. I know we cannot bring the lot in and test everyone on the spot. We do not have the grounds to do something like that specifically but we could ensure with their liscens renewal a test needs to be given." Jasper knew that he himself would be fine - which as selfish as it sounded he didn't give a damn about the other patrons for the town and thier ability to keep their cars.
"I also think there is a way to keep a closer eye on our drinking and driving. Do you have any connections with the unniversity? I think we could get a sober driver setup started. Which I am not saying you start it. That would be something people like us could push and fund - to show how much we care. You get what I am saying..." @ice-in-her-stare
London's finest. Hmm. She supposed that was a bit more acceptable than some local hack of a lawyer who didn't get any major cases half the time and were in way over their heads. A real professional would be greatly preferred over that.
"Well then I'll make sure I write out exactly what I expect and email that to you, shall I?" Cruella had an extensive list of demands after all, and that way Jasper couldn't act like he hadn't heard what she'd said. Reading made it impossible to use the excuse of not having caught everything.
Connections with the university? She had been cursed with dealing with that one professor during the play last year. But Cruella didn't think Collette would be a particularly enthusiastic source of information. "I'll look into the university. But you should definitely push the sober driver setup. I can of course provide funds where it mgiht be necessary."

Despite what Kovu had argued with Nuka--he knew that he hadn't been living up to his mother's expectations. He had fallen too far into the routine of life in Swynlake. He hadn't been making moves. He had become too comfortable.
And there was a shame to that. He didn't want to let his mother down. She was counting on him. (Even if, sometimes, deep down, in a place he rarely acknowledged--he wished that she was counting on Nuka or Vitani instead.)
Lottie had been a lesson. Kovu did not want to forget it.
So, he had arranged to meet with Mr. Badun and now was striding into his office after knocking and waiting for invitation to come in.
"Thank you for taking the time to meet with me, Mr. Badun," Kovu said, reaching his hand across the desk and shaking the businessman's hand. As he did so, he used his other hand to undo the button on his jacket and then sat down.
"Is this somewhere we can speak freely?"

The office was empty and he was sure of all other schedules.
“I wouldn’t have agreed to meet here if it wasn’t.” He nodded with a smile. “Please sit.”

Phillip decided to look nice for this.
He wore a nice shirt and nice slacks and he’d even combed his hair. Nicely. Not that Phillip normally didn’t look nice. He had quite expensive taste, thank you very much. But he wanted to look professional when talking to a Board Member.
He’d never actually done this before, after all.
Phillip had done his research and he decided that Jasper Badun would probably be his best bet. Jasper was a businessman — and a military man. Phil hadn’t served himself, but Tom and John both had, so he had that connection.
“Good afternoon!” said Phil, striking what he hoped was a professional yet jaunty tone, as he walked into the board members’ office. “How are you doing today, Mr. Badun?”
