that time the dub edited out a rice ball and replaced it with a crusty jpeg of a subway sandwich

i regret to inform you all that yes this is real and somehow this isn’t even the only time they did this. but the first time it was a peanut butter sandwich

what kills me about this is that this was way past 4kids’ era of editing out japanese culture references. These screencaps are from Mid-AG, but in the first 10 episodes of AG you have rice balls on screen and team rocket all refer to them as rice balls out loud.

my theory is that they had an allocated amount of money they dedicated on paint edits per season, mostly used to edit japanese text out and translate it, and when they realized they were allocating too much money for this they just panicked and edited whatever they could.

case in point, for the longest time they just… changed ash’s badge case to be a rectangle.

they. they edited the pokeball away. the pokeball. the same one that may has on. on her bandanna.

there is SO much weird shit like this in AG.
