Omg omg omg can you do reg! Court and Cg. Ryland Grace? I would absolutely adore you.
🪿 age regressor Courtland Gentry and caregiver Ryland Grace headcanons!
COLTLANDGENTRY SIBLINGS AU
──────── ────────
⟢ The first time Court regresses is after all of his connections to the CIA are clean and he’s staying with Claire in Ryland’s apartment. It’s the first time he’s felt relaxed in… longer than he can remember. Maybe he’s never felt truly relaxed before, at least not like this. His brain feels like mush and for the first time in his life, he feels safe.
⟢ At first, he has no idea what is happening. Court never got a proper childhood. All of his formative years were spent trying desperately to protect Ryland and Colt - he was practically their parent, he stepped up because their father refused to. Court doesn’t know what it’s like to be a child in the first place, so he can’t place that he’s feeling like one.
⟢ It took him until Ryland found him curled up, half asleep and (completely subconsciously) sucking his thumb that he found out what was happening. Ryland was so gentle with him, pulling a soft blanket over him and rubbing his back, whispering “it’s okay, you’re okay,” until Court fell asleep. Ryland told him about it the next morning, and not-so subtly asked him if he had felt any younger. Court didn’t have an answer to that, and thought it over very deeply over the course of the day. Eventually he came to the conclusion that he doesn’t know enough about what it meant to be a child to know if he felt like one, but that the hypothesis made sense. He knows all about the effects of trauma on the brain - he’s had to unlearn these natural responses for so long, so a coping mechanism that allows his brain to reset to a state before he had to do that would be good for him. He can’t help but wonder if this could be his shot at reclaiming the childhood he never had. He brings it up with Ryland and he is very happy to help. They have a productive conversation about it and their boundaries - they both like rules and guidelines so it works out well for the both of them. I imagine they even make a list - Ryland asked if he could put it up on the fridge but Court didn’t want Claire to see it, so it’s kept in Ryland’s room.
⟢ Ryland advises Court not to force it, that if it was a product of deep relaxation, that thinking about it too hard could do the opposite effect, but he’ll definitely be there for him if he does regress again. Court agrees, and they continue with their normal lives until the next time Court unintentionally regresses, where he can recognise the tells this time and go to Ryland about it. Well, “go” is a bit of a strong word - more like “whine loudly until Ryland hears him”.
⟢ Court is a BABY baby. He’s always had to be the one constantly thinking and problem solving that his brain clings onto that no thoughts head empty state because… well, it’s what he needs. I imagine he’d start regressing in life stages, almost - he starts out being super little for the first few months before he starts to slowly age up, like he’s experiencing life all over again. But at least at the start, all he really does is sleep and cry. So many years of it being unsafe to express emotion that he’s just a weepy little thing.
⟢ Ryland is soooo gentle with him. Being a regressor himself and knowing how much stuff Court I has gone through (even if he hasn’t heard the extent of it), he knows to be very light with him, both mentally and physically. Court flinches at touches that are even a tiny bit too hard, or a raise of a hand that’s just a little too high. It will immediately pull him out of his regression and into fight or flight.
⟢ Tiny baby. Very little movement and no words. All he knows is lie on back and hug brother. He’s too little to play games and never pays attention to tv, so his time regressed is spent staring at Ryland as he pampers him. He’ll run his fingers through his hair, rub his back or his tummy, cradle him, hum to him (even if he’s not the best singer, Court doesn’t mind), and it lulls Court to sleep super quickly.
⟢ When Court isn’t crying, he’s very quiet. He doesn’t really giggle much, but I imagine that would start to change as the months go by. He starts to become more playful, responding more to toys and resisting sleep to stay regressed with his brother for longer. Ryland thinks it’s adorable but reminds him that it’s okay, he can sleep, and that he’ll be there when he wakes up. Court has a tendency to wake up repeatedly throughout the night just to check that Ryland is still beside him - or because of his nightmares. He gets a lot of those.
⟢ And if Ryland isn’t there one night? Ohh, Court is WAILING. He immediately thinks his brother is dead! Of course, Ryland is fine, he just needed to go to the bathroom, but ohhh boy. It was very hard to calm him down after that. In his adult headspace, Court is usually very good at keeping calm, but the whole reason why he continued to regress in the first place was because it was an emotional outlet, so all of that goes out the window when he’s little. He’s a very anxious kiddo overall - he needs lots of reassurance which Ryland is happy to provide.
⟢ Even after Court starts ranging a little older and starts making more noise, he still doesn’t speak. The most he’ll say is “Ry” and that’s about it. If he wants something, he’ll just point and look at Ryland with that big ‘ol toddler stare - you know the one.
⟢ He regresses quite frequently because by god does his body NEED IT. After all of that trauma, actual relaxation is such a relief on his poor heart. Plus, aside from taking care of Claire who Ryland is helping with and is already quite independent in and of herself, he doesn’t have the crazy responsibilities he used to have, so he has more spare time than he knows what to do with.
⟢ Ryland and Court both love feeding time, although it’s quite the ordeal trying to keep Court awake for long enough to finish his bottle. Ryland knows he’s hungry so he keeps having to gently pat him awake, “starlight, I know you’re very sleepy, but you’ve gotta finish your baba. C’mon, a few more sips? Theeere we go.”
🪿 age regressor Ryland Grace headcanons!
──────── ────────
⟢ I’ve always seen Grace as having a pretty big age range. 0 ~ 9-ish. Generally, the more upset he is the lower he gets.
⟢ He’s a very curious little who likes to explore and play games that involve figuring things out, such as puzzles and worksheets. His love of science remains even in his younger headspace - he gets veeeerry fussy when Stratt or Rocky say that he’s not allowed in the lab. His mind gets a bit too fuzzy for his usual games when he’s super itty bitty, though - the younger that he is, the more low-energy he gets and the less he can do.
⟢ Loves to draw him and his carers together. They’re always very childlike drawings where they’re all holding hands in a grassy field with a sun in the top corner. The classic. He’s always so excited to show it to them and is super proud of himself (and a little bashful) when they put it up on the fridge.
⟢ He’d definitely be a fan of sticker charts and those noise level charts that they have up in schools. Anything he does for his own students he’s generally happy to have applied to himself. He likes a certain level of routine, nothing too restricting but just enough that he feels prepared for the day. Time outs as a means to self regulate (not as a punishment!) also work well.
⟢ He wants to climb trees! So badly! No matter how many times Stratt or Rocky tell him to get down and that he’ll hurt yourself, he keeps trying to climb them. If the tree is too tall then he’ll start to cry once he reaches the top and has to get his carer(s) to come and get him. But if it’s at a height where he can get up and down on his own, he’ll always preen like “see, I told you! I’m fine!” Even if 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t end that way.
⟢ Very teary no matter his age. Super happy? Crying. Sad? Crying. Angry? Crying. Especially if he gets hurt, he’ll be sobbing within seconds even if it’s super minor. This does not bode well with the tree climbing thing.
⟢ He runs out of energy QUICKLY. He can be running and splashing around on the beach one minute, then be teary the next because he’s just soooo tired! He forgets that he’s not quite as spry as he used to be.
⟢ He ranges a lot littler on the trip to Erid and was basically constantly regressed when he started getting ill from the lack of food. Deliriously crying out to Rocky that he’s hungry, that he feels sick, and wanting beside him constantly. That was at the point where he was too weak to get up on his own, so he spent most of his time sleeping or whining, using the last of his energy to curl around or reach out to Rocky.
⟢ Either super clingy or icked out by touch. It’s usually dependant on how old he’s regressing. The older he gets, the less he generally wants to be touched. This isn’t always the case, though! Some days where he feels particularly touch starved he’ll want contact even if he’s on the bigger side. And all of these boundaries are null when it comes to Rocky - he would crawl into his skin (rock?) if he could.
⟢ He really enjoys parallel play. He is perfectly happy to do his own thing if he’s ranging a little older, but still prefers to have someone in the room with him, both for comfort and to be there if he needs anything.
⟢ Grace in his baby headspace is suuuuch a little babbler. He loves when people go along with it and reply as if he’s saying something coherent, it makes him giggle like crazy!
⟢ I can see him babytalking as well. He does it less the older that he is - his 2 ~ 3 or so range takes the brunt of it. His tone stays super whiny no matter his age.
⟢ Definitely does the “ah! ah!” Thing when he wants something that’s just out of reach. Rocky thinks it’s adorable, it sort of reminds him of pebble behaviour when they’re too uncoordinated to walk yet so they have to trill and motion for what they want.
⟢ Grace is SUPER attached to his lucky symbols quilt. He carries it with him everywhere and will cry if it’s not in his general line of sight. He also has a little fox plushie that he’s equally if not more attached to. If something ever happened to that thing? Ohohoho. Good Luck.
⟢ Because of his lack of parents, it’s parental nicknames for just about everybody. Stratt? Mama. Carl? Dada. Yáo? Papa, etc etc.
⟢ Definitely padded on the Hail Mary - that catheter rip did damage!!
⟢ He wants those skittles so effing bad /ref. The tantrums he throws when his carers (usually Stratt and sometimes Carl - Carl’s a bit more lenient, though) tell him that he can’t gave anymore are mighty in the most… adorably pathetic way. Lots of stomping and wailing. He’s surprisingly easy to soothe for such big feelings - soothers are called what they are for a reason. Carl affectionately calls it his “mute button”.
⟢ Speaking of, Grace loves his ever-growing collection of pacifiers. He uses them even if he’s regressing a bit older. His favourite is the one with little stars on it, to nobody’s surprise. He’d definitely love star projectors as well, but gets picky about their accuracy.
⟢ He loves to stargaze outside too, especially on the Vatt. The stars are extra sparkly out on the ocean! He has to be rugged up or else he’ll be shivering the whole time, so Stratt usually gives him her coat to wear.
I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR STAY AGERE YESSSS can you do cg Sam and bby Henry? 🥺
🪿 age regressor Henry Letham & caregiver Sam Foster headcanons!
HENRY LIVES AU | POST-CANON
──────── ────────
⟢ Henry ended up moving in with him after the accident because he was an active suicide risk and had to be supervised + was too depressed and unmotivated to properly take care of himself. Sam fell naturally into the caretaker role and refused to give up on him. Henry desperately needed a healthy coping mechanism, and being a psychiatrist, it was Sam’s idea for him to start age regressing.
⟢ Henry is the weepiest, most teary little ever. He’s a veeeery tiny baby in my heart! Around 0 ~ 2 but usually ranges in the newborn weeks. I can also see him being a very angsty teen / pre-teen regressor - lots of slamming doors and being overall very angry but very apologetic afterwards. That stage is harder on Sam but it’s a necessary outlet and Henry always feels better when he’s had a chance to let it all out.
⟢ While Sam is Dr. Foster to him when he’s big (even though he keeps insisting that Henry doesn’t have to be so formal), he’s Dad / Daddy when he’s little (depending on his age range). It always melts Sam’s heart when he calls him this! Sometimes Henry even calls him Mama when he’s reeeeally small and missing his mother.
⟢ Henry cries for his parents constantly. It always breaks Sam’s heart, and while he has no way of bringing them back, he can definitely be his papa if that’s what he needs.
⟢ For whatever reason, I feel like Henry would like banana, vanilla and honey flavoured things. When he’s extra tiny the only things Sam can get him to eat is milk with vanilla flavouring and a dollop of honey, and banana custard in those little tube packets. He’s constantly trying to get healthier things into him, but considering how avoidant Henry is to food in general at the moment, getting anything at all into his system is a big step.
⟢ Henry is a stage five clinger when he’s in littlespace and super avoidant when he’s in middlespace. 0 to 100, always. When he’s younger, he’ll cry the second Sam is out of his general line of sight, even if he’s not actually leaving. He wants to be on his lap all of the time, snuggled into the crook of his neck with his legs wrapped around his torso.
⟢ Henry is a huge insomniac, but his regression helps him sleep. Sam bought him a blue star projector and it usually puts Henry right to sleep, although if he’s a bit older he’ll get distracted by counting each of the stars instead of actually sleeping. It works better if he’s baby regressing.
⟢ He tends to nod off while being fed his bottle as well. Especially if it’s already nighttime, with the sounds of the city outside the window and Sam holding him, sleep comes easier to him. He doesn’t like to hold his own bottle, Sam always has to be the one to feed him. He likes the feeling of being able to rely on somebody.
⟢ Teen Henry, on the other hand, has a huge rebellious streak and refuses Sam’s help on just about everything. He keeps trying to sneak out of the house and back onto the Brooklyn bridge, not even to do anything, just to look. Aaaand to give Sam a huge fright. He absolutely HATES bedtimes. He’s a grown ass man, he can go to bed whenever he wants! <— guy who is clearly regressed
⟢ He loves painting no matter his age, although he has a tendency to become perfectionistic the older that he is. He’ll get frustrated if things don’t turn out exactly how they were in his mind. Baby Henry, on the other hand, couldn’t care less! He loooves finger painting, but always has to have a bath afterwards because he gets super messy and doesn’t like the feeling of crusty paint between his fingers. Bathtime tends to bring back bad memories, but Sam is there to talk him through it. As long as he’s there to hold him, there’s no sharp things around and Henry can hear his voice, he’s usually okay.
⟢ Henry likes lay his head against Sam’s chest and listen to his heartbeat. It grounds him, knowing he’s still alive and breathing. They’ll sit in silence as Sam runs his hands through Henry’s fingers - it’s also a good way to calm Henry down after panic or anxiety attacks (after he’s at the stage when he’s okay with being touched again).
⟢ Henry enjoys being read to. He tends to fixate on specific books and wants Sam to read them to him over and over again. Sam huffs a laugh with a mock-surprised “again??” But reads it for him anyway.
⟢ Tummy time? Nope, back time. If you plop Henry on his stomach, he’ll just roll back over onto his back. Sometimes this turns into a game, where Sam puts him down and Henry rolls over like a little roly-poly bug.
⟢ Henry doesn’t really babble, but he does whine. In a similar vein, Sam doesn’t particularly baby-talk him, but he does talk extra gently and praises his baby constantly. Henry does well with positive reinforcement when he’s extra little, but never believes Sam’s praises when he’s in middlespace.
