The expressions on their faces are so wistful and happy ā¤ļø I love the way the light plays on the silk of Lucienās sleeve, and the light dusting of snow on the pillars! Elain just looks like every dream she's ever had has come true āØļø
This piece was my first glimpse into the beautiful artwork of this fandom and will always have a special place in my heart.
I realized something that's been irking me about the way [Insert a certain ship name here] talks about Azriel.
I'm not sure if this is their intent, but the way they always emphasize Azriel's kindness towards Elain and attach a special meaning to it makes it seem like Azriel isn't a kind person in general?
Like it's giving "Doberman boyfriend who's only nice to her". Which is just... inaccurate.
Azriel is canonically kind to many characters, especially females, in the series. This is a non-exhaustive list off the top of my head:
He's so encouraging and understanding when teaching Feyre to fly in WAR. He gets her rare paint from the Continent.
He's so gentle and caring with Nesta in HOFAS when he's trying to get her to take off the Mask. And in the HOFAS bonus chapter, he reassures her that she would be a good mother despite her own upbringing. He gets her a reading light for Solstice.
He's mindful and considerate with the priestesses during Valkyrie training. The fact that he even agrees to train them despite everything else that he has going on is kind. He's very aware of their boundaries and respects them.
He's kind and supportive to Gwyn when he agrees to give her extra dagger lessons.
AND he is kind to Elain. Of course, I get wanting to emphasize the kind moments of your ship as romantic, but then denying any other kindness could also be romantic feels... Off. Kindness from a kind character isn't inherently romantic.
Azriel is someone who is kind with those he cares for. Romantically or otherwise.
He specifically is said to be sensitive to the treatment of females because of his mother.
Like I said, I could be misreading it, but that's how it comes off to me. Not just Themā¢ļø either because I often see people reduced Azriel to the Shadow Daddy Dom character elsewhere. And it's sad, because he has so much more depth than that.

He sighed defeatedly. āAbout whether to reject the mating bond.ā
She gave a laugh that sounded like tinkling bells, but he recognized it for what it was. A show. A courtierās laugh.
āI really donāt see whatās so funny about āā
āYouāre all obsessed with āmating bondsā,ā Elain interrupted. āWith whether Iāll accept or reject, whether Iām free to live my life or be forever tethered to a stranger. I canāt exist without judgement if I choose to flirt, or charm, or take a lover who doesnāt claim to be my mate.ā
Take a lover? Claim? He felt a growl rumble deep in his chest at the suggestion, and hoped to the Mother she hadnāt heard it. Heād had aā¦ sense, at Solstice, that there had been something ā a flicker of desire for someone other than him. Heād tortured himself about it,Ā never once imagining she might be acting out, some form of rebellion against her perceived entrapment.
āBut Iām not about to play along with all this faerie nonsense, like my sisters do,ā she continued, tilting her chin in the air. āI donāt have to reject something that isnāt real!ā
He blinked, wondering for a moment if heād misheard her.
āNotā¦ real?ā
āNot real,ā she repeated, turning from him. āFrom my observations, Iāve deduced that mating bonds are a myth, perpetuated by the High Fae to lure poor unsuspecting womā females into relationships with,ā she flicked her eyes over him, āunscrupulous strangers.ā
Strangers? Unscrupulous? A myth? An incredulous laugh spilled from him, but she remained stone-faced. She wasnāt joking.
Lucien shook his head in disbelief. Of course. Of course. Trust the Cauldron to give him a mate who wasnāt just reluctant to make a decision about the bond, but was in complete denial about its existence! Did she not face the same daily tortures as him? The same dull ache of longing when they werenāt near each other? The same ravenous urges when they were in close proximity like this?
HOW WILL LUCIEN CONVINCE ELAIN THE MATING BOND IS REAL?? You will have to wait for Elucien Week to find out š

If I was being really greedy I'd say High King and High Queen (not the kind who rules over each and every court, just the kind who are the peace keepers of all the lands in their entire world) but I think that's reaching a bit high and probably not fair to crash out over so I'm going to say Calanmai in all it's hot Fire Night glory.
Not only do I love the idea of their union being the reason magic is restored to the land but chapter 55 was a heartfelt scene between Feyre and Rhys because of his past SA, among other things. I feel Sarah writing Calanmai for Elucien would give us an equally powerful moment of healing after Lucien's own SA.

The mere sight of her took his breath away. Rays of brilliant sunshine beamed through Elainās honey-brown hair, so that a halo was shining around her beautiful face. She lowered the flower crown onto his head, and even though this was all just a dream, he imagined he could feel the brush of the soft petals against his skin. He gave her a wry smile, an acknowledgement that he must look ridiculous, but her gaze ā and her hands ā remained on the flowers. It had been such a long time, since somebody had last made him one of these.

The wooden seat was worn smooth, and he took his place there, sliding the catch of the door across. There. He was fully committed now.
Perhaps he could confess his vanity. That had always been a problem of his. Though heād paid for that one with the scars, he still couldnāt resist making the best of himself, particularly when there was a chance Elain might see himā¦
And of course, heād have to confess his impure thoughts. Those had been plaguing him horrendously of late. Not all his fault, of course ā part of it was the mating bond, and its strange primal instincts drawing him irrationally towards a female who seemed disturbed by his presence. Perhaps he could talk to the Father about that. He so often felt he needed to talk about Elain. She consumed his every thought, but really there was nobody he could talk to. Everybody elseās problems were always so much more pressing than his.
He huffed a sigh, knee jogging excitably up and down, causing his heel to tap quickly against the wooden base of the booth. Impatience. That was probably another shortcoming he ought to confess. Though the Father was taking an awfully long time.
Heād just made up his mind to get up and return another day, when he heard the door of the next compartment open.Ā
Finally. He clasped his hands and waited for the ritual to begin, the repeated phrases and comforting routine of confession.
āThisā¦ is a confession box, isnāt it, Father?ā
Lucien stilled. That voiceā¦
āA place where I can admit things that Iāve done wrong, and be forgiven for them?ā
The sound of it, the timbre ā it was a fresh breeze that parted the grey clouds of his mind. A voice that he heard so rarely, outside of his dreams.
āFather?ā came Elainās voice again, the tone pleading.
Oh gods, his mate had gone into the wrong side of the confessional. What was he meant to do?
