the male antbird has a variety of songs used for different purposes, and has a specific song for ‘flirting’. however, sometimes they sing these songs to females when they are already taken by a mate. researchers found that mated females recognized their partners’ song and attempted to drown out their song with their own, presumably to indicate that their partner is already taken.
