Navigating Life With the Body's Wisdom as Your Map
The connection with your body is the most important relationship you will ever cultivate.
The Body as a Storehouse of Generational Memories:
Our body is a vessel for creative energy. We experience our life through our bodies. Each of these experiences is stored within its cells. In fact, our bodies carry memories far beyond what the mind can recall - even those passed down through generations.
While the mind operates in the present, the body functions on long-term memory, shaping how we navigate the world.
Layers upon layers, our bodies hold moments of joy, sorrow, fear, and longing. A place, a fragrance, or even a symbol can trigger an old experience, prompting the mind to project the visuals of these memories from our unique perspective.
Understanding this concept can help us improve and enhance our relationships with our bodies.
Navigating Our Life With the Body's Wisdom:
Our bodies express our unconscious stories. When we set out to pursue goals beyond what our nervous system is prepared for, we must consciously shift how we approach, engage with, and respond to external stimuli.
It's as if a compass is guiding us toward our true selves - our bodies communicate with us through feelings. These subtly reveal our preferences, dislikes, inspirations, and aversions. When we listen to and comply with these signals, we're more aligned with our true nature. In doing so, we don’t just serve ourselves—we extend this offering outward, supporting the world around us.
This practice allows us to embody our true nature. It is not performative, nor driven by the need to prove something. Instead, it is grounded in inspiration, connection, and sincere service to the world.
Points of Reflection and Practice:
1 Your Body is Always Communicating:
Your body is constantly signalling something to you. You don't need to be hyper-vigilant. But when you need guidance, you can always turn inwards. However, this requires you to quieten and listen without any bias. The key is to quiet your mind and listen—without bias or preconceptions.
2 Pause and Listen:
Take a moment to still your mind. What is your body conveying right now? Is there tension, ease, warmth, or fatigue? Notice the sensations without trying to interpret them immediately.
3 Mind vs Body: Learning to Differentiate
Do you navigate your days based on your body's subtle cues, or do you follow your mind’s directives? One simple way to distinguish between the two is through basic bodily needs:
a) Hunger: A growl in the stomach signals a need for nourishment.
b) Fatigue: A yawn or sigh indicates the body’s call for rest.
Now, reflect on your own unique bodily cues. What signals does your body give you, and what do they mean? Take a moment to list them down.
4 Acting on Your Body's Signals:
The next time your body gives you a cue, respond to it consciously. Take note of the difference in outcomes when you act based on your body's signals versus when you follow the mind’s directives. How does each approach impact your well-being?
By practising this awareness, you cultivate a deeper connection with your body’s wisdom—allowing it to guide you with greater clarity and ease.
There’s a post going round with an article from the Guardian which calls into question a lot of the methods used to determine the presence of microplastics in the human body. This is really interesting, HOWEVER I think it’s important to take it with like, a massive line of salt given the agnotological practices of trade associations and other industry groups.
The standard playbook for profitable industries whose product is taking a reputation hit is to generate enough reasonable doubt that people become less willing to boycott or replace their product. It’s classic. Tobacco is discovered to cause cancer, and the tobacco industry funds a bunch of studies looking into it, saying “hold on, there are problems with this science, it needs more research”. They look reasonable and concerned, and the people trying to get them shut down appear to be hysterically freaking out about information which may not even be true. Same for lead, sugar, fossil fuels, anything harmful that people want to squeeze more money out of before it’s unequivocally understood to be a massive source of harm.
It could be that there is an issue with many microplastic studies, but until that is very, VERY firmly established, I would hesitate to spread that article or reassure other people that it’s probably safe. Better safe than sorry. There’s just a huge chance that that information is being presented in bad faith or in a misleading way.
If you want to know more about the context I’m speaking from, I highly recommend the book ‘Agnotology: the making and unmaking of ignorance’ which can be found for free on the internet archive here:
viii, 298 p. : 24 cm
Or even the ‘Ologies’ podcast episode ‘AGNOTOLOGY’ which has the author as a guest if you’re not so into reading stuff.
A very very good and informative post about agnotology, which is the study of engineered ignorance basically. As a society, it would be very important to know what agnotology is, so spread the word!

A lot of us would thrive in a kinder and softer world, but since it’s not, be sure to be the kindness and softness, for others and for yourself, even when the world pushes back. Being gentle with yourself is the first act of real rebellion in a harsh world. Even if no one notices, your own heart and body will thank you.
