reality tea v
soyi makes @roadkillrage's childhood trauma her science experiment.
truthfully, soyi probably doesn't need to try so hard.
she will be rich and successful no matter how well she does in school. she doesn't know what she'll be doing after school with her degree. but she does know she needs a position in student government next semester, and working her cute little ass off in her classes will only benefit her on that mission. besides, she likes being better than everyone else, and if she slacks off in all her classes, there's no way for her to know how stupid all of her classmates are in comparison.
in short: she will be trying hard. and it's her first real, important essay in her media psychology class this semester, so she needs to knock it out of the park to make a good impression. the prompt is pretty open-ended: find a piece of popular media and write an essay on its psychological impact on society, or one person in particular, since its inception. and she has an idea.
she knows someone on campus who was involved in popular media. well, okay, she doesn't really know her, but she knows of her, and that's enough for soyi to show up in front of her door at the gaeum building. her suite actually isn't that far from soyi's, so it's an easy walk.
soyi knocks three times in rapid succession, then waits. anyone in their right mind would probably be concerned that it's weird to approach a relative stranger and interrogate her over the reality show she grew up on and subsequently had her childhood trauma aired out on, but not soyi. for one, she is not in her right mind. for second, she can be very persuasive. she is very confident she'll get what she wants out of this encounter.
making a splash
soyi decides to bother yeonhwa's resident mermaid @forewoven at the lake.
the lake kind of smells, and soyi is a little afraid of some freshwater fish rubbing against her legs, but it's still fun to swim in, especially after spending the morning hiking. the communal bathrooms are, in soyi's opinion, about as gross as the lake, and the lake was closer to the end of her hiking route, so the course of action was clear: jump in instead of walking all the way back to her cabin all sweaty and gross.
soyi is at the end of the day a social creature at heart, so she gets bored of swimming by herself quickly. she could just hop out and go get lunch, but she's not really hungry yet, and the water does feel nice.
instead, she looks around for someone to torment hang out with. she spots sora sitting on the dock close by, looking out at the water. soyi swims over easily.
"i'm surprised you're not in the water," she comments. she associates sora mainly with her skill in the pool. soyi doesn't cheer at swim meets, and she's only been to a couple herself, but she does keep up with yeonhwa's sports teams in general. sora is supposed to be pretty good, isn't she? "can you breathe okay with your gills all exposed to the air like that?"
she grins. she's only joking, but there's no telling how sora will receive her humor, really.
burn it
things get a little spicy between soyi and @legallysera at the bonfire so they decide to cool off in the lake and totally not participate in gay activities.
soyi has a tendency to get bored easily. however, her reputation is important. participating in school-wide activities is very important to improving her renown at yeonhwa, and eventually achieving her goals of ascending to the top of the social totem pole. and political totem pole. anything that gives her power, really.
however, after about 45 minutes of sitting around the bonfire, she's about ready to do something else. she doesn't want to go to sleep, and she doesn't want to wander on a hiking trail alone, or anything like that, so she isn't sure what to do.
maybe she just needs to switch things up a little. she peers around the campfire, then spots an open seat beside sera. sera is, at the very least, interesting, so she decides to hop up from her own seat and plop down beside sera without even asking her if someone else is sitting there.
"i'm convinced lee eunho has hooked up with at least two girls here already," she says, without offering a proper hello or introduction. she moves her head in the direction of where the guy is sitting so sera knows where to look. there's a girl that keeps giggling at what he's saying sitting next to him.
"that's girl number two," she states confidently, like it's a proven fact. "number one is..." she squints as she tries to recall her name. "i can think of her face but not her name. she's blonde. hangs out with him a lot but acts like she hates him...?" she looks back to sera for assistance. surely she can count on her to know her name.
the moon landing
soyi gets a little too competitive during the post-campfire capture the flag game and is intent on taking @cherrypopelectric down
if soyi is anything, it's a winner. she is determined to be the best at everything she does, so in any competition – no matter how lighthearted – she refuses to lose.
she's already a little peeved that she was not worshipped as the most talented student at yeonhwa during the bonfire this evening. that just means her team has to win capture the flag to make up for it. her teammates better not flop on her and let her down.
despite the alcohol in her veins, she is fully convinced she has catlike reflexes and cheetah-like speed. she shall be victorious.
she played capture the flag during the day this weekend, so as any genius like herself would, she already has the layout of the field memorized. she can easily navigate this with nothing but a glorified glowstick.
now, was the enemy home base to her left...or to her right? she tries to picture the layout in her mind. right when she's about to decide to go right, someone zooms past her carrying her team's flag.
oh hell no.
she charges after them. she is completely unsure of the thief's gender, because they're around her height and really fast and it's dark as fuck, but she gains on them. once she's close enough, she throws herself at them, tackling them.
this is probably a man, she soon realizes, because her tackle did not successfully take him down. he's definitely slower with her hanging off of him now, though.
"give me back my flag!" she shouts. she holds her glowstick up to get a better look at the flag thief's face as she continues to weigh him down.
it's phoenix. she doesn't know him super well, but even drunk soyi knows he's one of the hockey twinks that she's pretty sure would get bulldozed at roller derby.
she kicks him in the back of the leg to try to take him down.
her smile tightens a bit as she brushes off the comment. “you're too kind. it’s hard keeping up with so many people, y’know? trust me, i would've found my way to you. like any good hostess would.” on occasion, iris forgets how mildly infuriating it is to interact with soyi. the two have never been the closest of friends, always keeping each other at arm’s length, save for the rare cases where one of them needs something from the other.
and as much as iris will try to deny it, she wants her guest’s attention, so she'll deal with it.
"nothing but a few catcalls from halfway across the pool," iris rolls her eyes, "it's fine. i'd rather have someone say it to my face." her annoyed expression smooths out as soon as she looks at soyi again, eyes following the curves of her body without a hint of subtlety. god, soyi's hotter than she remembers. maybe it really is just the alcohol, but has she always been this... attractive?
iris doesn't care enough to dwell on it. not when they're sitting together like this, much too close for comfort in any other case. if this is all just a game, then fuck it, she’s playing too. "you're honest," she smiles, her freshly manicured fingers tracing along the strap of her bikini. "i like that."
even among the strong scent of chlorine, soyi's perfume is all iris can smell right now. all she wants to smell. their thighs brush together, and rather than shrinking back as usual, iris bites her bottom lip and locks eyes with her friend.
"don't tell me the only thing you can say is 'pretty,' soyi," she teases, glad to know that she's not the only one here who can barely control her mouth. her eyes flicker down to soyi's lips, then back up. "not that i hate hearing it, but… i wonder if your tongue is capable of more than that."
soyi can't help but giggle a little. she knows iris saying she's too kind is said in jest, but the phrase applied to her at all amuses her. if only iris knew..."i knowww," she hums regardless, kicking her feet a little in the pool water. soyi just likes to be a noticeable presence in any room. what can she say?
she wrinkles her nose. catcalls. gross. though she supposes catcalls are better than sleazy men hitting on you in close-quarters. she'd hardly count them as compliments, though. besides, compliments from girls just hit different, don't they? girls understand the effort it takes to look so pretty. they're more sincere. well – in some cases. soyi's compliments are more strategic than anything else, and she is not above flattery to get her way even if she doesn't mean it. in this case she does, though. iris is pretty.
she snickers again when iris calls her honest. also something soyi certainly isn't. she's closer to it now than she has been in a while though, she thinks. either that or her intoxication makes it a lot easier for her to believe everything she says, too.
( cw: suggestive content )
pondering over that is not her top priority, though – not even in her top ten priorities. she and iris seem to be on the same page. she's not entirely sure what page they're on, but it's something flirty. something a little different than usual. she's certainly not complaining. it's fun, and what's a party for if not having fun?
soyi raises her eyebrows as iris continues, then grins. she leans in close, mouth right near iris's ear. she lingers in her space for a moment, then whispers, "like this?" and sucks her earlobe into her mouth. she traces it with her tongue slowly, nips at it lightly with her teeth, then lets go.
she pulls away, but just enough to get a good look at iris's face. she smiles at her, equal parts smug and expectant.
hiii everyone! i am slowly plotting with several people, but i still need one thing to write for soyi for activity and i would love more threads opposed to answering one of the prompts. better than that – event threads! so please like this if you'd like an event-related starter from soyi. i'll probably cap this at four for now! i'll read through everyone's event plotcalls and try to customize them, so don't be surprised if i come to u with some questions OR i just toss u something random!! thank u everyone 💕
a look inside MOON SOYI's phone...
comparing notes.
@gossipfest
he's not sure exactly what kept ethan out of their anatomy and physiology lecture last week, whether it was illness or scheduling conflict or ethan just simply didn't want to go to class that day, but the other student's presence was sorely missed. yul isn't the most outgoing guy, he doesn't make friends everywhere he goes, so the quiet camaraderie he's built up with the guy who just happened to sit next to him on day one means more to him than it probably should. it's why he doesn't think twice about sharing his notes when ethan texts him requesting a copy. but, again for some reason, ethan can't seem to meet up in person to pick them up.
yul isn't as much of a fan of soyi as he is her brother. she has an intense aura about her, a quiet menacing presence hidden behind bright smiles and a pretty face. if he's being honest, she kind of scares him! and it's embarrassing to admit that a big, strong man like himself could be intimidated by a girl who is definitely more bark than bite. still, it's for ethan, so he agrees to meet up with soyi on campus to hand off his notes.
"is your brother okay?" he asks, not meeting the girl's eyes and instead rummaging through his backpack for the carefully transcribed notes for his classmate. "it's not like him to miss class." is he avoiding me? yul can't help but wonder, a bit of anxiety creeping into the back of his mind despite how he does his best to ignore it. no, that's not likely. ethan is a nice guy, an honest one; he would say something if he didn't want to see yul anymore. plus, why would he ask for his notes otherwise? it's not like yul is some godly notetaker.
"tell him i'll see him in class on tuesday. if he's there." he hands over the papers, still not quiet looking at soyi directly like a timid dog afraid of being perceived. "i hope everything's good."
soyi is far from a caregiver. in fact, she's consider herself more of a caretaker, which is somehow, in the english language, basically the same thing? probably related to taking care of people. fine. soyi likes taking care from people. especially her brother. and he's studying medicine, so it's basically his job. when she's sick and asks him for favors, she's just giving him practice. she's so helpful.
now, when the tables are turned, she doesn't like it nearly as much. ethan rarely gets sick, but when he does, it's a pathetic sight. he's all sniffly and gross and also insists he's fine even when he's clearly not. one time he broke soyi's favorite mug in his dorm because he was so sick and out of it that he tried to make coffee and dropped the mug. her mug.
soyi was, of course, very annoyed, but also, oddly determined to make sure he actually sat the fuck down and rested instead of still scurrying around when he was ill. obviously that strategy of his did more harm than good, and when she listed the litany of problems his stubborn insistence to continue business as usual while sick caused, he agreed to chill out.
unfortunately, that means she has to help him while he has some weird-ass summer flu, but she's a good sister. more than that, ethan is a good brother, and she feels like she owes him for his patience with her.
her assistance includes fetching notes from one of his friends, because ethan insisted on having the option to study despite being sick. he didn't want to fall behind in class, he was bored, it was basically just reading and what harm did that do, blah blah blah. soyi was more annoyed arguing with him over it than she would be just getting him the fucking notes, so here she is.
"he has the flu," she explains. "he'll be fine, as long as he doesn't like, spontaneously decide he needs to rearrange furniture instead of resting." it's a joke. she isn't sure if it'll fly with yul, because she doesn't know him, but she also doesn't really care. she takes the notes, dips her head to him in gratitude, but doesn't thank him aloud.
"he insisted on having these so he wouldn't fall behind," she adds. "he's fine. just not as fine as he thinks he is. he needed an intervention. but luckily that's what little sisters are for." she gives a small two-fingered salute. "we compromised with this so he wouldn't actually go to class until he feels at least 80% better. so thanks."
❝ Do you strongly believe that weekends should be three days and weekdays with just four? You know, instead of the usual crap we have. ❞
"i mean...no?" strongly believing is a stretch for the subject. does anyone strongly believe that? well, probably. "kim, there's people that are dying," she references the popular meme. it really is an insignificant thing to believe strongly about in the grand scheme of things, isn't it? "i mean, sure, three day weekend would be cool. but then again, people are already stupid and lazy enough having to go to school and work five days a week. can you fucking imagine what these idiots would be like with...what's that, like..." she scrunches up her nose in thought as she does some math. "40 less days in school per year? jesus christ."
if you could change one thing about the semester, what would it have been?
"i would be part of student government," she answers easily. "i'm better than all the flops in there right now." she blames this particular failure on her only being in her second year at yeonhwa. plenty of the other students know her name because of her family, but they didn't know much about her. her campaign was good. next time she has the opportunity, she'll do better. she's been carefully cultivating relationships and racking up responsibilities ever since to make sure of it. and of course, if all else fails, all she has to do is put something up on the dragonslayer about any of her competitors to gain an edge.
📣 faceclaim change!
hello hello everyone, back at it again with another ooc post, but this time it's important! i've decided to change soyi's fc from billlie's haram to itzy's yuna. yuna was soyi's original fc in my head when i conceived her but she was taken by the time i could bring her to yeonhwa! i waffled around on whether i wanted to change now that she is available, but after procrastinating everything else i should be doing by designing a theme and graphics for soyi: yuna version just to test things out, i decided i'd take the leap! yuna is also the same age as soyi is ic, so it feels a little better to me. i'm also not mad about having to dig less for resources whew. nothing else should change aside from her face and hair color <3 this isn't all i'm bringing to you, though! i also finally have soyi's links properly up on her theme oops and also have her connections and thread tracker up and running! there's still a lot i need to add to this but MY GOAL is to get through ALL plotting messages today. finally. and then i'll update this as more connections become set in stone 💓 hopefully i'll do that for jiyul today as well. that's all!! ty for reading and i hope u all are having a great day 💞
all things considered, yeonchella was a blast, and it would be a shame if the festivities stopped right at the end of the last set. that’s how iris and a few others end up sneaking into the rec center with snacks, speakers, and more than enough booze to fill a kiddie pool. it's not so much a secret considering the music blasting—echoing off the walls and mixing with the sounds of water splashing and drunken chatter—but it sure as hell is a party. she’s never ‘off’ during social events, so when her conversation partner dips, she's ready to find the next person, turning her head to see moon soyi slip right into place.
“oh, soyi! i knew we were missing something,” iris remarks, her words slightly slurred as they leave her mouth. she's about as tipsy as the next person over, having indulged in a couple shots at the top of the hour. “but now that you're here, i can mark this as a true success.”
the flush on her cheeks is only partially due to the alcohol. it has much more to do with the way soyi looks at her as if she's studying her. instead of dwelling on it, iris lets out a bubbly giggle at the compliment. “thanks! i bought it a few weeks ago and i've been waiting for the chance to show it off. glad to know someone around here has taste.”
she glances soyi over, her eyes shamelessly tracing up and down before settling on her face again. “you don't look too bad either,” she muses, admiring the way the other girl’s swimsuit fits her just right. “i mean… your swimsuit. your swimsuit doesn't look bad.” terrible recovery, she knows, but what can she do? her brain actively short-circuits when soyi touches her shoulder, and the peach soju she had doesn't help keep her mouth shut. no, there's nothing wrong with appreciating soyi’s looks, but she's said entirely too much already.
“anyways,” iris cuts in, attempting to smooth things over. “i'm glad you made it. i had a feeling i'd see you here, but now i wanna know why. was it the drinks? the pool? or…” she tilts her head with false innocence, “is there someone special you wanted to see?”
"you were missing something. i've been here, babe. i'll forgive you for not noticing me because i know you've been busy." she says it lightheartedly and with a smile, though she also means it. she is a little offended that the hostess didn't approach her herself earlier in the night, but she supposes it doesn't matter. they're here now. she'll make the most of it – maybe make herself iris's most memorable party guest of the night while she's at it.
"nobody has complimented you yet?" she frowns and gives a disapproving hum and shake of her head. that's how she interprets iris's comment, anyway. she'd be surprised. surely at least some boys have tried to flirt with her tonight. iris is undoubtedly pretty. compliments from girls hit different, though, especially when paired with a lingering gaze, like the way iris looks at her now.
"thank you," she replies, a little smugness in her smile. the way iris fumbles for words is cute. soyi is calculated enough that she takes note of the impact a small touch has on her even while tipsy.
the smile stays on her lips, knowing, even as iris tries to salvage her composure. soyi can't help but want to push a little further and see how much she can affect her. she leans a little closer without even realizing.
iris isn't that special, and no, she didn't come to this party just to see her. soyi goes to most parties – any opportunity to build connections and increase her popularity. "i knew you would throw a good party," she says, alcohol making her a little more honest than usual. "and if i wanted to see you in a swimsuit...so what?"
that was not something that influenced her decision to attend the party, but it is something influencing her now. she can't help but look again – iris's shoulders, her chest, her thighs. soyi wonders...
"pretty," she says again before she can stop herself. she wouldn't have stopped herself even if she could. her gaze settles back on iris's face – lingers on her lips for a little too long. soyi wonders...
teeth
yeonchella is over, soyi is tipsy, and @cinemaveritas looks so so pretty in pool-party lighting.
soyi is sad yeonchella is over. well, sad isn't the right word. disappointed would be more accurate. after this, they'll return to the slow drudgery of campus life in the summer, and soyi isn't looking forward to it.
thankfully, they have one last hurrah in the form of a forbidden pool party. of course soyi is there. soyi is at most social events on campus – was here all day every day of yeonchella. the only thing that's ever more important to her than making connections is having fun, and parties are good for both.
she usually doesn't drink too much, too concerned of loosening her lips enough to sink ships – or her reputation. tonight is special, though. it's a finale of a sort, and any good celebration includes a little alcohol. plus, the spiked fruit punch is really good.
maybe she drinks a little too much of it and is a little tipsier than intended, but she's not the one falling in the pool and having to be rescued (happened, by the way) so she figures she's fine.
speaking of fine: iris choi. she's one of the hosts of the party, flitting about from person to person throughout the night, chatting up a storm, as iris does. she looks especially pretty tonight. something about the way she glows in the lights reflected off the pool water, painting everything a little blue.
soyi catches her seated on the edge of the pool, right as whoever was sitting next to her leaves. she takes the opportunity to slide in and sit down beside her, dipping her feet into the water as she does.
"hi party princess," she greets her with a grin. "i think the party has been a success." she looks around the rec center briefly before her attention settles back on iris again. "thank you for your service."
her smile fades slowly, but she still looks at her, gaze somehow a mix between curious and weighty. it drifts downward for a moment, then back up to iris's eyes. "i like your swimsuit," she comments, flashing another smile.
she reaches up to iris's shoulder and adjusts the strap even though she doesn't have to. "pretty," she murmurs.
dg:prompt july – soyi has a chat with the only person she truly loves: her older brother
her skin is sticky with sweat just from walking from the gaeum building to the inyeon building.
when she enters her brother's dorm, she takes her shoes off at the door and fans herself violently.
"it's so hot, i feel like i rolled in fucking glue!" she shouts so ethan can hear her no matter where he is in the dorm. he laughs from in the kitchen, so she heads in that direction.
"also, why do you people treat this building like someone died and now haunts it as a restless spirit? can we please play some music? i'll even take vivaldi, if you want to be..." she waves her hands vaguely. "polite."
the kitchen smells like coffee. she looks to the coffee pot, brewing somewhat menacingly. "ethan i swear to god, you better have iced coffee for me. if you make me drink hot coffee in 35 degree celsius weather i'm going to turn into a serial killer."
