2025 Word Tracking Spreadsheet

For those who have used it before, the 2025 Word Tracking Spreadsheet is now available!

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, the annual word tracking spreadsheet is a robust Excel sheet (it can be used in Google Sheets or other programs that are able to read .xlsx files) which allows you to track your wordcount goals and actual achieved wordcount across several projects. There are graphs, time tracking, and many little bells and whistles.

This is a spreadsheet I created for myself back in 2012 and I’ve been changing it bit by bit as I discover new things I want to track, or ways to motivate myself. I can’t remember exactly when I started sharing it publicly, but I’m happy to share the blank spreadsheet each year.

Fingers crossed that I haven’t missed any bugs this time around! (Long time users know that going into and out of a leap year has traditionally been a time for me to make mistakes as adding/removing a day changes so many formulas!)

Sharing it is a little bittersweet for me this year. I barely used my own; I haven’t even looked to see how many words I officially made as of when I am typing this up. My relationship with writing is a tad bit complicated at the moment, and while I hope to uncomplicate it somewhat by the end of the year, that hasn’t happened yet.

There haven’t been any changes since last year other than the dates. I was playing with some new changes in my own file, but they aren’t ready for prime time, so if I can actually WRITE in 2025, maybe I can get those sorted out (ways to group projects to track them at a higher level, like blogging vs novels vs fics, etc.).

As happens every time we go into and out of a leap year, I managed to mess up a formula. It didn't show up in testing, but was spotted in the wild. The sheet has been re-saved and is corrected.

(For Excel nerds who are curious: In order to avoid screwing up formulas, I copied information from the 2023 sheet which was prior to leap year. Smart, right? I told it not to link the sheets. It still... tried to link the sheets. I broke the links now.)

I really don't know why it's been so hard in 2024. Like... in a "not even lurking in fandom places " way, it's been weird.

Bucky pulls hard with his teeth and left hand at the ends of his tie-now-tourniquet on his upper arm, grunting in pain. The two bullets—still in there—made a mess, but at least that should slow the bleeding. Hurts like a bitch, though. 

When someone sneaks into the alley where he took cover, Bucky lunges for his gun, ready to use his last three bullets. It's a good thing it was on the ground, slowing him, because it's Tony, looking ruffled but unharmed (thank all the angels in heaven). The start of the attack separated them, and Bucky's been worried sick.

"Oh, thank God!" Tony echoes, relief just as potent. He frowns in worry when his eyes catch on the tourniquet. "Are you okay?"

With a smile he hopes looks reassuring, Bucky wipes his bloody hands on his dark jeans. He isn't, but there's no time to lose and he doesn't want to alarm Tony too much. 

"We need to find somewhere safe," he answers instead.

2023 Word Tracking Spreadsheet

It’s here!

The 2023 Word Tracking Spreadsheet is available and ready for you to get started in the new year.

For those who have used it before, there is one change this year: I’ve added a column to record hours worked in a day, and to track those hours, and that’s been added to daily charting.

For those who have no idea what this is: way back when, I decided I needed visual feedback for my writing, to help me see progress even when I wasn’t sure I was making any. This spreadsheet was born then, and has gone through a lot of iterations since then. 

In order to make it easier to share, both the instructions and the actual Excel file are now shared through Google Drive.

I had the absolute joy of working together with @gottalovev for this Marvel Bang! Fic: Let me dream a song Tony is sent to Colonel Phillips to assist with a secret weapon that could help them win the war. In exchange, he’ll have the support from a few of his soldiers in order to retrieve Hydra’s mysterious Cube, which could be the solution to fix his heart. It’s a shock to find out that Phillips’ weapon is a man, a super soldier even. Even more so that it’s Steve, the cute soldier Tony met in a bar the night before, and with whom he made an instant connection. Love in a time of war isn’t easy, but Steve and Tony are determined to make it work. If you want Noir Steve/Tony, navigating a new relationship in times of war, and being sweet with each other, this is the perfect fic for you!! Read it HERE on AO3! This started out with an amazing ficlet Lou wrote for me as a gift years ago. I still love it so much, and now there is so much more, it’s awesome and it is wonderful to have finished this together!

This time the story is published through @marvelbang, where I worked with my dear friend @massivespacewren. It felt fitting to do this together, as it’s a sequel from a fic I wrote for them 6 years ago already! 

And look at the marvellous job, too 🤩. I am IN LOVE with how Wren drew the boys, how sweet they are together and for each other. Once again Wren demonstrates how beautifully they work with solid black shading and backgrounds, but also the warmth they can add with lighting and texture. I absolutely adore it. Thank you for doing this with me, Wren, I love you!  ❤️

Also, a grateful shoutout to Nagi who did a wonderful (and fast) beta for the story in my time of need! You're the best!
