Matt smiled and cocked his head. “It’s okay, don’t worry about it.” He kept on staring at Sasha, moving to the crowd, a little uneasy and nervous. “She could do a few moments without me, I guess.” He smiled again. Sasha would do fine on her own. She was strong, independent. Once she’d be able to use her magic, she wouldn’t need him anymore, not at all. Matt nodded towards the girl, in the centre of the room. “Strawberry Blond.” He cocked his head a little and he cleared his throat. “Sasha…”

Grace looked around to where Matt nodded and spotted a young woman with strawberry blonde hair. When she turned around the vampire couldn't help it when her mouth dropped open. "Sasha? The girl who you have been seeing is Sasha?" She couldn't help her surprise. "I um...I know her. In fact, I am related to her." Grace revealed. She was happy her relative was with someone like Matt. She took comfort in knowing Matt wasn't dating some crazy girl.

"Yeah, I already guessed I didn’t have to explain that to you. Although I’m not the only one present with that problem, Gracie." He winked at her. After all, the entire reason he had asked her to come here with him was because she was to stubborn to leave him alone when he told her to do so. He laughed sarcastically. "Anything like me? You couldn’t be more wrong… I’m the black sheep of the family, he has gotten all the good qualities. Or so everyone seems to think. The hero hair, the good behaviour, if he wants to at least." He raised his eyebrows. "Nah, he’s a great guy, if he wants to at least. I kinda miss him. But don’t tell him I’ve said that, ok?" He sighed, rolling his eyes. "Spare me… I’ll have to find a safe place out of town for all the Christmases to come, I’m afraid. You haven’t seen Elena’s house haven’t you? Because I’m pretty sure she’s just as bad…" He acted like he was going to run. "I’m out!"

Grace raised an eyebrow at the mention of hero hair and smiled. "I don't know Damon, you have pretty nice hair." She joked. She liked hearing Damon share more personal things. She knew eventually she would have to regale her sad tale but that was for a later time. "It sounds like you two were somewhat close when you were human?" She asked curiously. "Ah, now I have a partner in crime next Christmas!" She giggled excitedly. It was weird, but in that moment she knew she had been right in returning to her old home. As Damon made to run off she grabbed his arm. "Oh no you don't. If I have to be here all dressed up then you are certainly staying with me." She wrapped her arms around the dark haired vampire in a hug. "Thank you Damon."

Grace calm down. I'm going to do everything I'm my power to try and help. Like I said earlier, I don't think the spell will last much longer. No living witch has that kind of witch woo. Wait Sasha is your kin?

Yes. I didn't know until recently and the details are unclear. I know she is my blood which means I will do everything I can to protect her. She knows about me although I don't know how she feels about it.

He shrugged. “It was always our favourite holiday…” It was. He had always enjoyed spending that time with Stefan, decorating the tree. Sometimes even their father joined in. “Stefan and I… well, let’s say I blamed him for me completing my transition. I promised him an eternity of misery, and you know how stubborn I can be. He can do that as well…” He smiled. “Don’t worry, I’ve never lost sight of him over the years. How else can I give him all that misery.” He winked. “And we actually repaired our relationship over the last few years. It’s just… after all that time not celebrating, it’s kind of a hard habit to break.” He rolled his eyes. “Please don’t tell me you’re going to bother me every Christmas from now with carols and decorations? Because I think Elena is planning on doing exactly the same.”

Grace loved hearing about Damon and his brother. It bothered her a little when he mentioned how he blamed his brother for his transition but decided to leave that alone for another day. That didn't seem like good Christmas talk. "I know very well how stubborn you can be." She agreed with a smile. "If he is anything like you then I bet he is a great guy." Grace winked and laughed. "Oh is that so? Then you are going to have enough Christmas cheer in your life between Elena and I to last you forever. You should see my apartment. It looks lke a Christmas factory exploded." She laughed. "I have enough decorations for like three houses to be done fully." She admitted. "You sir are in for a whole lot of trouble, being friends with me. Run while you can."

"Same here," she with a smile before raising her brows as she realized who she was talking to. "Oh! Your Grace oh course. Elena’s talked about you I just never knew your name. Nice to finally meet you." She shook her head and shrugged, "No clue, I mean I would say Esther but I would think she would have done that a long time ago if it were that simple..so I don’t know. I’ve only known one witch who did that but shes dead so…" She sighed. "Whoever it was I feel like they had a motive behind it…and not a good one."

Grace blushed when Bonnie said Grace spoke of her. She knew the two were friends but hadn't truly known to what extent. "It's great to meet you too, just wish it had been at the girls night we were planning and not this." At the mention of Esther, Grace wrinkled her nose. "Who's Esther? Apparently she isn't very nice though..."

Matt bent his head and started to blush. It was easy to live a life without someone like him. He knew that a lot of people did it. His father did it, his mother did it. He wondered if his mother had even thought about him after he had thrown her out of the house. “You’ll be doing fine…” He whispered and his lips curled up into a shy smile. “But I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.” He looked around. “Although my date might wanna see me tonight.” He winked at her and smiled brightly. “Thanks.” He nodded. It was good to have friends, to have people he could trust, to know where to go to if something was wrong. Not that he was good at really doing so. He preferred keeping things for himself. The others had enough on their plate. “I could introduce you to her, if you want?” His eyes found Sasha in the crowd and he started to smile.

At the mention of a date Grace looked around. "I am such a dud! I should have known you were here with someone! And here I am taking up all of your time." The vampire would have introduced herself well before in the conversation but she had completely forgotten Matt had been seeing someone. "I'd love to meet her. Which one of the lovely ladies here tonight is she? Blonde? Brunette?" She pointed to a few girls smiling. Whoever this young woman was, she was something special if she mad Matt smile like this.

Nothing will happen, okay? I mean, if everyone is just human… I guess I’m one of the strongest people around here. I can defend myself and you. It’s nice to be able to repay you for once. You’ve been defending me, I’ll be defending you. Until Damon and Caroline fix this…

I hope they figure this out quick. You, Elena, Damon, everyone....you are much more than friends to me. You've become family. I couldn't stand losing any of you.

Your not the only one in danger Grace! She is on a war path and anyone siding with vampires is going to burn. Me, Bonnie, Davina, and Sasha! We all are targets for her. She gave me a choice: join her or go down with the vampires. I don’t know how to reverse it, she didn’t tell me what she did, where she got the power, how she did it, nothing. But I will try and find away….I couldnt forgive myself either Grace.

Bonnie...Sasha...we can't let her do this. We have to stop her. I'll do whatever I can to help Benny. We can't let her destroy everyone for whatever reason she decided to. My friends are my family,Sasha is blood related even! I can't lose anyone. Not you.

"Alright…and do we know how or why?" Stefan asked out loud though it wasn’t really directed at anyone in particular. He ran a hand through his hair out of nervous habit and began pacing the floor. He hadn’t been human in almost 200 years…to say he wasn’t at least a little freaked out was a grand understatement. 

Stefan stopped pacing the floor, realizing how crazy he must’ve looked and a tad embarrassed by how rude he was being.

"Sorry about all this, something just isn’t…right. I’m Stefan by the way, it’s nice to meet you, Grace. I wish we could’ve met under different circumstances…" Stefan tried to give his new acquaintance a friendly smile before muttering under his breath,"God I could really use a drink right now…"

"Possibly. A friend of mine said a powerful witch cast the spell He promised he would do what he can to fix it. I hope he does something soon. I feel so uncomfortable like this." Grace accepted his apology with a nod. She fully understood why he felt like this since she was battling with herself at that very moment not to completely freak out. "It's nice to meet you too Stefan." In a small way she was glad to know she wasn't the only one having a very hard time coming to terms with her sudden heartbeat. "Tell me about it. I know a decent bar not too far from here. A friend works there. Maybe he will have some information on this. If not, at least there will be plenty to drink." Grace offered.

Matt sighed and felt how she hugged him back. Being friends with a vampire wasn’t new to him, understanding that sometimes becoming a vampire was the only solution to some problems. He knew that becoming a vampire had saved Elena’s life, he knew that becoming a vampire had made Caroline the better version of herself. “It’s okay…” He whispered. “I understand, don’t worry.” He could understand that sometimes being a vampire was a good thing. He felt how she pulled out of the hug and how she wiped away the tears with the back of her hand. “I vote for guilty…” He forced himself to smile. “But yeah, some mother’s just lack the thing that makes them a mother.” He sighed and stared at her. “You shouldn’t praise the death for thing they were not.” He shrugged his shoulders. He had loved Vicki, but it didn’t mean that he forgot about the bad things she had done to him. “I’m glad I could listen.” He smiled at her again. “You can always tell me anything, okay?”

"What would I ever do without you Matt? I don't know how I have ever lived without someone like you in my life until now." She confessed. Grace never realized that she hadn't had a friend so supportive like Matt in her life and it made her a little sad. Never before had she tried to befriend someone, especially a human and found herself so attached. In the short time she had known him she had come to care deeply for the young man. He had proven to be a special friend in her life, accepting her for the monster she was. "I hope you know that it goes both ways. If you ever need me, you know where to find me. I'm never too far." She smiled. "Enough with the sad stuff." She laughed. "We are at a party, we are supposed to be celebrating. So....maybe you could elaborate on a certain young woman whom you have mentioned only in passing that you had a date with?"

Yeah, it seems you’re human again. I guess Damon and Caroline are working on figuring out what’s going on. So, calm down okay? I’m here, nothing will happen to you.

[gracedanis]

Matt....I'm supposed to be protecting you, not the other way around. What if something happens to you now? I could never live with that, if I even live much longer. Someone has to be much more powerful than we could ever have known to turn everyone human. How are we expected to fix this?

"He’s not worth it, Grace, if he leaves you alone like this… you deserve someone better…" He felt a bit uneasy when she mentioned Rebekah, as he likes the Original vampire and he liked seeing her happy, even when that involve the man Grace so wanted to see here. "I’ve heard the same…" He clinged  his glass against Grace’s before emptying it and filling both glasses again. She became all nostalgic, and he couldn’t help doing the same. "I’ve actually barely celebrated it since… since I changed and I lost contact with my brother…" He sighed. "It’s not silly.. it’s reminiscing something that could have been and that is not more. I never find much joy in doing that, but if it helps you… why not?"

Grace wanted to believe her friend, she truly did. Her heart still wanted Marcus despite everything. "You what? Oh come on now. Why haven't you celebrated? It's always a time to be with friends and family." She smiled. She hated hearing that he had lost contact with his brother. "I am very sorry to hear that. Have you looked for him? I'm sure we could find him if we looked hard enough." Grace didn't know Damon had a brother and she hated knowing they weren't together. It sent a small pang to her chest knowing she had one living relative that she knew about and the girl was virtually afraid of her. "I'll make sure you have plenty of great holidays. Christmas is one of my favorites and either I will make you hate it or love it."

Yes I knew! I only just found out. Your not going to die! I'll put a protection spell on you if I have to grace, I won't let you die. Ashanti is a powerful witch but I don't think she can permanently reverse it, I think its only temporary.... I'm sorry grace.

You won't be able to protect me. Not if she is powerful enough to turn all of the vampires in New Orleans human. I am not the only one I am worried about Benny. I have friends, people I care about that are in danger now. If you are truly sorry then you will fix this. Get us back to how we are supposed to be. If something happens to my friends I will never forgive you.

I….that….it…I know who did it….its a very powerful very old witch named Ashanti. Esther brought her back for gods know how long. I don’t know how Ashanti did it, she didn’t tell me. She wants to know if we are on the same side and I’m not sure we are. She wants vampires gone but I just want the witches to be protected.

You....you knew? This whole time? Benny....Esther....the Original Witch? How is she here? We are all going to die aren't we? You knew.....I have to stop her. This whole thing has to stop. This isn't the way to protect witches and you know it! Would you have sat by while I was killed Benny? Would you?

I don’t think this is the work of any coven here. If they had the power and the spell to do it why wait now? It makes no sense, I think its a new player in town. You…you trust me to find out who did this? You hardly know me.

I feel connected to you some how. I know I can trust you Benny. You are a good person. I can see it in your eyes when you talk to me. You don't see me as some monster that has to be taken out or eliminated. You've been kind to me and I know you will find out who has done this and why.

 Damon laughed about her reaction. “Ok, ok, I’ll stop.” He still couldn’t stop himself from grinning. “But yeah, we’re good again.” He shot her another look. “I think we might have to thank you for a part of that… you told both of us not to lose hope, when we both thought we had already lost it.” He saw her gaze wandering through the room, but he already thought the person she wanted to see here wasn’t there. “He’s not here?” He patted her shoulder, feeling a bit sorry for her… “Well, let’s toast on that then… to an awkward Christmas party?”, he repeated the toast he used with Elena earlier. “And what is a party without some awkward moments, after all?”

"What did I expect? He hasn't spoke to me since I spilled my guts to him." She shrugged it off, or tried to. "From what I hear he is with some blonde Original." The reality of the situation stung but hell, it was Christmas. Grace could worry about it all after the new year. "To awkward moments, to which there will be plenty." She clinked her glass against Damon's and gulped down the rest. "Hopefully I won't be too embarrassing." She joked as she reached for another glass. "I can remember Christmas being the most wonderful time of the year in my household. Some of the traditions have carried through the years with me but others can stay buried in the past. It's silly but I had always dreamed of having a big family, at least three children, inviting all of my family and friends over for Christmas dinner and caroling.It's so silly, I know."
