Hello!
I think I can say certainly that it was the works of the Jim Henson Company in all their variations! (The Muppets, Bear in the Big Blue House, and the designs on Sesame Street, if I were to name a small array!) Jim Henson's process to create, conceptualize, and preform puppets has always been an inspiration. (Frank Oz too- Richard Hunt, Fran Brill, Jerry Nelson, Caroll Spinney, Kathryn Mullen- Et Cetera! The list goes on and on! ) I always recommend visiting the Original Muppet Show AND the first few seasons of Sesame Street- The chemistry of its cast is Beautiful, there is nothing quite like it!
However, I do want to recommend others! The Muppets opened the floodgates to an array of other shows from all over! I'll be as concise as possible!
My favorite I'm presently following is called 'The Creatures of Yes.' It is a very beautifully created array of short films and media surrounding these gorgeous and strange little puppets and their world. It is better experienced than explained, I highly recommend watching it here! A film is coming out soon, I'm very excited!
One I find very intriguing is one considered lost media (to my Knowledge anyways!) It is called the Curiosity Shop and was created as a commercial response to Sesame Street by ABC and the likes of Micheal Eisner. I've always been intrigued due to its designs and associations with well-known names (Chuck Jones was it's creator, Bob Baker its puppet builder, and a notable array of voice actors like June Foray were apart of its creation.) A few episodes have been uncovered to my understanding! However, Definitely a product of its time I'll say!
I have a few others, but honestly so many are worth exploring! There is a British Puppet Show I really like called Rainbow, which I say is genuinely a very silly show with puppets who are Rapscallious (New word.) Eureeka's Castle is very sweet, something silly and immersive in terms of it's world that I feel is very Relaxing. The works of Sid and Marty Kroft (H.R. Puf n' Stuf!) are also a lot of fun for their unique atmosphere, although I'll say they are of their times in a negative light! Then there's Charlie Chalk, the entirety of stop-motion Rankin/Bass productions (They utilize Animagic puppets!)-
