Sentimentality wasn’t really one of his skills until Namek broke him to make room for it, but there is something to be said for the fact that he remembers Tarble (and his name) after all this time.
Personally I like to think it was Vegeta’s first real lesson in what happens to someone who’s not good enough. Having a father discard his own son because he was weak is a lesson I don’t think Vegeta ever forgot.
Actually when I say “fuck all billionaires” I particularly mean Taylor “having my wedding in the middle of the busiest city in the world on the busiest weekend in the world in the part of the city the majority of commuters need to get through because fuck working people” Swift
#looked up and thought ‘that can’t be hard’#and then my eyes widened with horror as I realized the sheer number of rectangles everywhere#I’m . I’m horrified
King Vegeta is tall as fuck, while his sons are small. They probably inherited that shit from their mama. Do you think Veggie was ever insecure about his height?
My hc (and I think a fairly common one) is that their mama is very short like them, haha. I think maybe early on in his life he was, especially if he and Raditz were the only surviving Youths and Raditz shot up while he didn’t.
I do have an AWFUL lot of hcs about how Vegeta grew up (mostly) subconsciously idolizing Freeza, so I do think it helped his confidence knowing that the most powerful (mortal) being in the universe was around the same height. I’ve often said that Vegeta’s primary tripwire is disrespect, and I think it applies to his height as well. He might’ve even come to enjoy being underestimated due to his appearance while in the FF, since he loved a good show stopper.
Even in Daima he wasn’t super reactive when Goku took a shot at it, he just offered a temperature check in case Goku was looking to learn his shoe size, so I think if it ever made him uncomfortable when he was young, he’s perfectly comfortable with it as an adult.
Some Vegebul yearning because yes. If you know the pose reference I used for this, you get a sticky star :) Here's the final and sketch because I loved the sketch so much too
Thought about Miss Geets Mom at work today and decided I wanted to draw her when I got home.
Her name is Chube (Pronounced tchoo-bay, from 'Tuber' b... because... because she's the root... of the Veget- has anyone made this joke yet?)
Buncha headcanons under the cut!
Her genetics show up the most in Geets' transformations
She ended up Queen because during the civil war she had the highest body count of any breeding female -- which is just an objective observation on her planet, but is a sentence that lands very differently on Earth.
She's 5'0" and has a build closer to Vegeta's than Tarble's
The "softness" her boys have, including Vegeta's guardian instincts, can be blamed on her -- She was a highly successful militia leader who kept her squad alive throughout their missions by putting her team's wellbeing above her own
The softness extended to her extramarital "companion", Rabi, another woman in her squad
She and Vegeta rarely saw each other, both being active combatants
She took great offense to King V sending Tarble to die while she was out on a mission, and while she lacked the words for how it felt, she loudly considered it disrespect and theft.
She took consistent back-to-back missions afterward, so that she would always have an excuse not to go home.
She was not on-world when the planet was destroyed. Her companion was.
Chube assumed everyone she knew was dead and did not return to the Freeza Force.
When it became clear that Freeza's men were hunting down and killing the rest of the Saiyans, she removed her tail, cut her hair, and started planet-hopping with a much lower profile
She did not know Vegeta was alive until he'd gained a reputation and his title as a Lord, at which point it was well-known how he dealt with the disloyal and disappointing in his ranks, and she avoided him (as she did all of the Freeza Force) out of fear that he would kill her.
When reports that Freeza and all of the highest ranking members of the Freeza Force were killed on Namek, she assumed her son dead, and stopped scanning for news of FF activity.
She has a plethora of aliases and did not start using her real name again until she settled on the planet she now calls home
Like Vegeta, she spent the first half of her life embedded in war and the pride of her culture, and has spent the second half of it detangling those mindsets and learning how to be a person outside of her Saiyan identity.
She's spent the last several decades building a quiet life for herself on a small, peaceful planet that guards the secret of her origins.
She lives with her girlfriend and is a general smithy/handyman/lumberjack/mechanic/etc -- Anywhere she can use her strength and abilities to help her community, she does.
Having assumed Tarble died as a baby, and Vegeta both dead and having taken after his father, she does not know either of her sons are alive, and has not attempted to look for proof that they aren't.
Her biggest regret is not being able to protect either of her boys (or Rabi) from their father (or Freeza), and while she is very happy in the life she has now, she wonders often where they would all be now if she'd thought to run sooner.
When Vegeta and Bulma's heights are listed in feet he's 1 inch shorter than her (5'3 vs 5'4), and when they're listed in centimeters Vegeta is 1 cm shorter than Bulma (164 vs 165), but 1 cm isn't even half of an inch, it's ~0,4 of an inch. From my euro standpoint vegebuls are basically even, so when I see all the demands from ppl that Vegeta be like a half a head shorter than Bulma I'm like ....but there wouldn't be much of a difference 😅 Did we ever get anything from Toriyama on the topic?
Not that I’m aware of, aside from how he draws them, which varies panel to panel. The ‘Vegeta’s a whole head shorter’ is from the epilogue where he’s standing next to her and is indeed a whole head shorter, although I always interpreted that as exaggerating that Bulma is wearing heels (which she never(?) wears throughout the rest of the manga). Toyo seems to draw them roughly the same height with Vegeta being a hair shorter or taller than her depending on how they’re framed, so the 1cm is probably closest to The Truth (although he will always be 5’3” to me, haha) since Toriyama was actively revising his drawings at the time and never corrected them.
BUT Toriyama did say very loudly that he cares more about telling a good story than getting the details right, so it’s probably just one of those things he genuinely did not care about as long as the compositions were solid and the basic vibes were right. Iirc his note in the official guides are basically like, ‘I’m humbled by your efforts and grateful someone cares so much about this! Couldn’t be me.’ fnjddj Icon that he was.
The way that 5000 Trump supporters and Klan members got drowned out during a really bad storm when they were gonna march in DC... and they had to seek shelter in the- wait for it-
The African American Smithsonian.
The writing hasn't been this good and pro-Black since Charlie got Kirked 🤣 But seriously, like... Imagine! Imagine marching in your hatred and fearmongering, having to seek shelter bc even nature rebuked your presence, AND you had to seek aid in a place where the people you hate... STILL gave you shelter. It couldn't be more obvious.
someone's height is a neutral feature of their body. it is not a reflection of their age, cognitive ability, or right to respect (even though you need to respect the personhood of others regardless of age or cognitive ability anyway). being short shouldn't mean anything more than a factor you take into account to make an accessible world. short people aren't children, aren't automatically cute or funny or harmless - they're just people. it's honestly absurd the way people immediately lose any sense of maturity when it comes to discussion about height
