Meeting at the Bar || Fabrose
stories-with-akia:
Quinn was bored. Tonight she was to attend an event for her fatherâs company and as much as the man wanted to give his business associates the impression they were a happy family; she refused to comply. His affair broke their family apart and he couldnât have his cake and eat it, too. That didnât sit well with her at all. The party took place in the building across the street and she made certain to post a picture of her outside the bar because she knew her father would see it. After the post, she chose to keep to the establishment and order a glass of whatever white wine they had. The options were limited but she only wanted something to calm the inner rage.Â
The bar kept a quiet calm ambiance and Quinn ran a lone finger around the lip of the glass. She thought of her mother and how she moved to Paris as soon as the ink on the divorce papers were dry. It as amusing how daddy dearest wished to sell the happy family image when she was the only family he had in this city. Quinnâs finger slowed its circular motion and she lifted it before dropping the digit to her napkin. There was such a morose expression on her face and she hoped it would keep people from approaching her. This wasnât exactly a place sheâd go to strike up a conversation but it didnât stop a couple of men from asking if they could buy her a drink. Which ended with her declining and telling them to move along.Â
She may call it a night after this glass of Chardonnay. Perhaps a visit to her favorite Chinese takeout and a brainless sitcom would help bring her mood around as she hated to spend more time than necessary dwelling over her family. She did it for so long that all her patience worn out. Quinn flipped her phone over and tapped the home button. There was another hour and a half before the restaurant closed. Her clutch, which laid on the bar, moved to her lap and she looked for the wallet to leave a tip. As she waited for the bartender to return, Quinn watched the brief interaction between him and a girl who looked as if she used a fake ID to be at this bar. Great. If one high school kid found out about this place then it meant there would be more and the quietness of this bar would lose its charm. If you could call what this place has as charm.
As the bartender went to work on whatever drink the girl ordered, Quinn decided to give her a stare, to see if she could lure her over to her side as she wanted to take a peek at her ID, only to see if it looked real or was, in fact, her actual ID. At least this little situation pulled here away from the stupidity of her father and onto something that may deem itself as entertaining. At best.Â
Marley smirked at some ridiculous comment her best friend made the kitten video she reposted on Facebook, Marley never could resist a funny at video. Suddenly she felt like someone was standing over her shoulder. After a quick look behind her revealed no one was there her gaze fell back toward the screen, but she still couldnât shake the feeling. Marley looked up to find those canvas worthy green eyes staring right at her. This was ... strange? No. Intriguing? Maybe. Why would someone who looked like that be staring at here? Then it donned on her that she was obviously staring at some hottie behind her. âDuh Marlsâ. She turned around again but there was no one in there womanâs direct line of sight.Â
Not knowing what to do exactly in this moment, Marley rose her hand slightly waving awkwardly. The entire time she was inwardly chastising her child like actions. The goofy smile spread across her face, surely didnât help matters. She looked over at her hand, which was still awkwardly waving out of its own volition, and physically pulled it down to her lap with her other hand. âGet a grip, ding dong.â Marley stood after the picking up the drink the bartender had just sat in front of her and walked around to the other side of the bar. âHey, sorry about that. My sort of did a weird thing where it was taken over by aliens and caused me to be weird, like more weird than normal.â A soft nervous laugh fell from her lips. âIâm Marley by the way. Profession making awkward things awkwarder... More awkward?â She really had no idea what the hell she was doing.Â
