Father, though, would never forget. He is far to vengeful, you know that is very much true. Graham, I don’t know what to believe anymore. What if you are lying?”

“We all needed one, she was the smallest. My weapon is staying in the background, what was yours?” Graham questioned. If he could strictly recall Zachary always tended to fight against the older siblings, not work with them. “Father would forget if you can him the right reasoning to. We just have to figure it out, somehow. And I am not lying, Zachary. Why would I lie to you? I have been the most passive brother, what good would me hurting you bring?”

“I did not decide, I wandered in aimlessly. I did not know it was a maze, it was a fatal mistake. If you are willing to help me, I’d love that. Thank you, miss -- Who are you?”

“I can bite you if I like. You give me no reason to act civil. I do not care what mother or the rest think. Why should I care about father, what good has he ever done me? I am not going home, has no one in our god damn family realized that?” Zachary sighed, crossing his arms before taking a step back. “Go away Graham, I don’t need you.”

“We should not do that. I strictly recall Claire biting me when she was younger, I do not want to relive that moment.” Graham chuckled, his attempt to lighten the moment spoiled by Zachary’s lack of care for their father. “I know father has done little for us all, but what if we all simply forgot about the Beast?” It would be difficult to convince their father, but Graham only wanted Zachary back. “Please Zach, don’t shut me out. You know I care for you the most.”

“You did, but it did seem comfortable enough. I am glad you did not starve to death, that might have not been a good sight to see afterwards. But -- uh. What are tater-tots? What is a tater?”

“I said please! how much more polite would you like me to get?” she growled placing her hand to her still throbbing head “No, I don’t do ballet” she crossed her arms once the pain subsided “I’m a singer…..what about you hotshot? you must have an amazing job by the way you’re acting…”

“Well you said please and then proceeded to bite at me,” Graham said. “No need to be snippy.” Graham rolled his eyes, arms crossed. “A singer? What sort of songs do you sing? Anything I would know or is it all modern?” He asked, genuinely curious this time. “I do not work, unless you count me hunting as a job. I suppose I could work, but then again I do not need to. I hope that does not make me seem selfish.”

“Watch it Gumdrop? Never been called that before. And would you, would you really?” Graham challenged, waiting to see whether she would, in fact, use it on him. “You don’t know how to use it? Has no one ever taught you?”

“Normally I’d say that sounds great, but if I don’t get out of here I’m going to be late for work, um, I think I remember a trick on how to get out of mazes? At least, I think it works?” Marilyn gave him a small unsure smile hoping that he wasn’t offended. “How about a raincheck on the maze party, and instead we go on a walk instead? I think if we follow one wall we’ll make it out of here eventually.”

“Work? Well that does seem important. We must get you out, somehow. What are you suggesting?” Graham paused, curious to see the suggesting she had. It would have been better than what Graham could come up with. “Really? I will hold this raincheck against you, you know. But sure, we can walk instead. That sounds like a good idea, why don’t we follow this one?” Graham suggested as he begun to stroll down the path. “So, what sort of work are you doing?”

“I like to think I am, but it doesn’t mean it’s true. I probably should have just given it a try, but I overthink sometimes,” Emily’s hands moved as she spoke before she put them down at her sides and hoped she hadn’t looked off. “Of course,” she agreed with a nod. “It’ll be fun to do this with someone, actually.” She headed them down the correct path, watching for anything she didn’t recognize. “Where are you coming from? It’s usually fairly peaceful here, or it is for me, at least. I think you’ll like it without trying too hard,” she smiled, looking over at him. “I like it. My brother is here, and they have a huge library. What do you normally like to do?” 

“Overthink sometimes? It is better to overthink than anything else. Either way, I see nothing wrong with that.” Graham said. Following her along the path, Graham’s eyes took in each different aspect of the maze. “I’ve never seen something this grand.” He stated, his attention quickly adverting towards the girl. “I am from France and yourself? And I do hope so. What sort of things are we able to do here?” He asked, curious to see what differences this world had to offer. “Your brother? That seems nice. My brother is here as well, his name is Zachary. Hm. A library? Now that is interesting. I am not big on reading, but I do enjoy spending time outdoors. Or swimming, though I can’t say it is the best of the year for that.”

I what I mean is most people here don’t work….the villains make trouble…well some of them anyway and some of the royals feed into it…” she said with A shrug “Well when I’m not Bartending the Bar in the village, I perform there…I have to go rehearse for my new set”

“I am polite and considerate, but the way you said it was very rude. Let me guess, you work incredibly hard on what -- getting your ballet stance correct?” Graham questioned, his eyes instantly rolling as his shoulders fell into a shrug. “Rehearse a new set? So you are a singer or just the background noise?”

“No need to bite me, Zachary. If that is what you say, I believe you -- And of course, it is obvious to us all. It makes mother sad, or at least, one of them sad. Father is upset too, he wished we were all together as a family once more. I am not here to bother you, I am here to bring you home.” Truthfully that was a lie, but father had warned Graham that if Zachary did not go home, then more trouble would arrive.

“Well…no, actually. But I have a good sense of direction! And technically I memorized the map.” She didn’t want to get lost by herself, even if that was the point of the maze. “The middle is that direction,” she motioned to the left with her head. “How do you like it so far?”

“You memorized the map? Why you must be rather intelligent then. I do not think I could do that,” Graham admitted truthfully. He was not quite as intelligent as others would believe, but he had known a few things regardless. “Shall we proceed there then?” He questioned before turning his head around in her direction. “It is peaceful, which is strange. I am not used to such silent winds -- if that makes sense. I might as well learn to love it though, no? How do you like it here?”
