Is anyone else like. Extremely curious about the actual dialogue that occurred in La Nuit De La Chenille/The Night of the Caterpillar? Because Robert's line (which is now my header, lol) is, “The wise Stag said your light has faded, and you must rest,” and I just think that it's very beautiful.
also, if that's the line that robert says to chris, and chris chose this ballet for some unspecified reason besides wanting to give the audience some culture, there's a lot to unpack there, bud
I love thinking about why Chris does what he does because, as we all know, I like studying him like he's a bug under a microscope.
I really do think that Chris needs to talk to a professional to get himself sorted out. Like, if we just take what we see in canon, leaving headcanons aside, we have these facets of Chris' identity (though I don't think I got everything written down):

Has been in the Drama Society since polytechnic years,
has nearly cried on-stage while being actively booed by the audience in a play-gone-panto,
Gets stressed out and angry when things start to go wrong on set (or off set if it ends up affecting on the stage stuff, like the horse),
His father has been talked about behind his back by the cast, so much so to the point of having it as an agenda bullet point to go over in a crisis meeting he wasn't invited to,
His mother had a relationship with Robert, a guy who could arguably be called the closest thing to a best friend that we see with Chris,
His mother, from her “Scottish language” quote, is at the very least one of those older British people who have a distaste for the Scots,
He's been ousted as director of the Drama Society in a coup that was orchestrated by Robert, and then cast into a role where his character was designed to be made fun of and seen as disgusting,
He got tear-gassed by Robert in front of a live audience and on national television,
He got shot by Robert in front of a life audience and on national television,
He's not good at physical, non-scripted fighting,
and one of the things that he really wanted the Drama Society to do was derided behind the scenes,
one of his fellow cast members said she was going to put glue on his flute,
another said it, quote, “was a new low for [him.]”,
and the very thing he wanted to put on was the total opposite of how he's been treated in canon.
How this man hasn't snapped on them again, ACCGW my beloved, I cannot understand. Except I do, because he's the most repressed character in the show.
The things that Caterpillar has—respect, people who worry about him, a safe space that was guarded and protected while he was vulnerable—are things that Chris seems to be lacking in his real life. Most of the characters he plays, regardless of where they fall morally, are characters that have power, respect, or both.
He is screaming for the cast to realize what they're doing to him, how he feels like he's an outsider in a place that is practically engraved into his bones, and he's doing it on-stage for the audience to witness. But they don't see, they don't hear, or if they do, they ignore him.
I've made myself really sad now, actually, so I'll just leave you with this quote from Sally Field's 1985 Oscar acceptance speech:

Really fitting that Marcus’s first coherent words onscreen were “What? No I’m not” in response to being told he was being sacrificed to the chaos water, actually

This episode really was just the boys derailing things over and over again while Midge was trying to give them some cool stuff and get them on the road to their big overarching quest, huh

Marcus being a greedy bastard and leaping at every opportunity to weasel more loot out of the situation. Marcus, my guy, I thought you were the sane one. (not since Episode 1, but the sentiment holds)
Chounk continues to become exponentially more lovable, I am enamoured with his tendency to randomly spout the most deep and/or unsettling monologues

Can we talk real quick about Lemon's apparently godlike rizz? Like, man Does Not seem to know how to flirt (both compliments could easily read as platonic, he didn't make any particular effort to be seductive, and every sex-related quip he made was very clearly Luke and not Lemon himself) but Marcus IMMEDIATELY assumed not being charmed by his attempts meant he was immune to being charmed at all.

firmly of the opinion that Lucas is the Pretty One. Like they'd stop off at bars for a rest and Ashen would be flirting his ass off for a room while Lucas is batting off suitors left and right.
They tried Lucas in a fem disguise once and he (deservedly) punched a creep in the dick so they stopped trying that one.
