Ardbeg are celebrating their 200th anniversary with a new limited release dram, the Ardbeg Perpetuum. The Perpetuum is a blend of older classic style, some spicy expressions and some bourbon casks, which when combined has produced a dark chocolate, sea spray with peat smoke and vanilla. Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg director of distilling had said "Ardbeg's character has endured for 200 years and we hope it will continue for centuries to come". Oyo, a relative unheard of (at least to us) distillery out in a sleepy town of Orlando has walked away this year with the Best Wheat Grain Whisky... Say hello to Oyo Oloroso Wheat Whiskey. They get the rich nutty flavour from ageing in American white oak barrels, before being transferred to sun-drenched Oloroso sherry casks, where it acquires some subtle black cherry and dark chocolate flavours. #doublecask #wheatwhisky #whiskey #whisky #oyo #grainandmalt #singlegrain

In the international whisky awards the award for the best world whisky goes to Hakushu 12.. A Suntory distillery nestled in a mountain forest, strategically placed next to rolling streams, which even has it's own bird sanctuary. This natural location is said to inspire the fruit and natural flavours, delivered by this beautiful whisky. When you think whisky do you think Taiwan? Here's a little something from the King Car distillery, its a cask strength which has been fully matured in red and white wine casks which have been re-toasted. It's described as bold with a sweet caramelised sugar finish. It's difficult to find here in Australia so if you stumble across it grab a glass. #singlemalt #grainandmalt #whisky

Its not without controversy. The Mortlach 18 took the best 18 year old scotch at the International Whisky Competition. There are mixed feelings describing this complex and robust dram. The sixth release from Glenmorangie's popular private edition series is the Tùsail. Glenmorangie have used Maris Otter barley which has been floor malted by hand, and matured in a carefully selected set of casks.

The Irish are regarded as some of the best distillers out there, and the guys at the Cooley distillery are no expectation. The Greenore 8 is an affordable dram, leaving the nose with honey. Cereal, vanilla and a touch of menthol. While the palette brings sweet maple or honey with some spiced roasted nuts. The Greenore is the winner of three consecutive best of class awards at the international wine and spirits competition between 2008 and 2010.

Martell is one of the oldest of the big cognac houses, celebrating their 300 year anniversary recently. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715, when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in cognac.

To celebrate the Rolling Stones 50 year anniversary, Suntory released a special limited edition crystal bottle of whisky. The Tobermony distillery has just released a 42 year old expression. The lightly peated, smoky sherry cask finished whisky. It has beem bottled at 46.3% ABV. Packing and the bottle looks the part!
