⚠️ PSA! ⚠️
I know many people in our communities have alcohol/drug addictions or are around people who do, so I want to teach you all some first aid tips!
if someone is unconscious, for example if they've passed out drunk, first make sure the scene is safe, then check for breathing and a pulse!
to check for a person's pulse, place two fingers on their neck beside their windpipe and press firmly for 5-10 seconds.
if the person has no pulse, call emergency services, find an AED (or tell someone to find one if that's possible) and begin CPR if you know how. follow the instructions on the AED to defibrillate the person.
if the person is breathing and has a pulse, place them in the recovery position!
make sure they are on their side with the higher arm folded under their head, the lower arm bent forward, and the higher leg bent, like this:
their mouth should be open and facing downward. that way, if they vomit, the vomit can drain out of their mouth and they won't choke on it.
you can place soft but heavy objects, like pillows weighted down with something, around the person to keep them from accidentally turning over.
this information can save a life. please share!
Also a reminder that there are many organisations that give free narcan to those who need it!!! And if you’re in the uk (like I am) you may be able to get some from pharmacies after a consult. Even if you don’t expect to use it, it’s so much better to have it and not need it that need it and not have it. Stay safe everyone.
hey shoutout to black angels. all the angel iconography is very euro-centric, and i js wanna let y'all know that you're valid, and the color and shade of your skin does not equate to the amount of "purity" you have. y'all are so awesome sauce!
i wanna make an intro post but i cant be bothered💔💔 have a guide of my spiders instead
Princess!!!!!!!
Species - Tliltocatl albopilosus (curlyhair)
Age & Size - 1.5 years (i think), just under 4 inches
Nicknames - Queen Princess, Baby Princess
Princess is my first spider, bought in September of last year! She’s pretty shy, and a BIG burrower, so I don’t get so many photos. She likes to bury herself so I have to open her burrow back up every couple days… I know this is usually done when they’re in premolt but I think she just can’t be bothered to take the dirt all the way out of her burrow when she digs because she has always done this😭😭😭
Mip!!
Species - Phiddipus regius florida (regal jumping spider)
Age & Size - not sure how old they are, about 4mm
Nicknames - The Mipinator, Mip Machine, Mippy-Moo
Mip is my lil baby jumper!!!!! Bought in late april. She is veryvery curious, and veryvery active, most times that I feed her she’ll wander out of her tube and use me as a climbing frame. She jumps much more and much further than the previous jumping spider I’ve had, which is kinda scary but it’s okay 😭
Maude
Species - Grammostola pulchra (Brazilian black)
Age/size - not sure how old, just under 1/2 inch
Nicknames - The Baby
Maude is my most recent spider, bought on the 27th of April. I’ve been wanting a Brazilian black for AGESSSSS and I am so excited to finally have one. I’m a little nervous to raise her because I bought Princess as a juvenile so I’ve never raised a tarantula sling before. But I love her SO MUCH. If anyone has any advice on raising this species I’d gladly take it, at the moment she’s being fed pinhead crickets, and I keep one half of her enclosure well moist. She’s eating well so I think she’s doing alright!!!!!
bro i love my best friend SO much😭😭😭😭 she is so supportive of my hobby and she always helps me out by checking on my spiders while im away and she even rehoused princess with me😭😭😭 oh i love her so much 😭😭😭 and she always listens to me ramble😭😭😭😭😭 and she does all this even though she’s scared of them😭😭😭😭
my granny gets wild jumpijg spiders in her garden😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 im so jelly
Orchids

🐛 🪻 and 🐸 for the ask game! (..◜ᴗ◝..)
🐛 - Are spiders the first invertebrates you kept? If not, what was your first pet invertebrate?
When I was little my family would raise painted lady butterflies and then release them into the wild, although I don’t know if that really counts. It was super cool though. I’ve always loved bugs!!
🪻 - What are things you wished you knew before getting into the hobby?
I probably could have done some more research on enclosure decoration, also I wish I had anticipated how anxiety inducing it can be when you have literally nothing to do to look after them for days😭😭
🐸 - Are you connected to the/a spider community somehow?
I like to use online spider communities to my advantage, and also when I’m 16 I hope work at my local reptile shop (the one that i get my spiders from) because there are lots of people there that own crazy cool pets. A little off topic but one worker told my mama about how he was getting skinny pigs
