I'm sorry I ever let you act as if you don't remember what you put me through. I was so naive then. I know so much more now, things I will probably never hear you admit to but that are so obvious. While I'm thankful for the lesson, you are something I will never look back on with a bright light. I don't regret the things I gave you, with the exception of more of my time than you deserved. If you ever feel inclined to write anything referencing me ever again, let it be a letter to your future child about love, forgiveness, and that feeling in your chest when you realize you've been found in a lie. Write them a guide to making excuses so they know how to recognize the patterns in someone else and save themselves. Tell them it's okay to not be in love with someone anymore, tell them how much easier it is to breathe when that door shuts behind them for the last time. Let them learn from your actions so they will love better. You treated me like a burned down candle. I've always been the motherfucking sun. I forgave you years ago, this is me trying to forgive myself.

I might not be everywhere or in everything that you see

You might not be reminded of me with every song or movie, you might not think about what I would order from a restaurant menu or get a visit from me in your dreams only to wake up with a sense of longing you can't explain. This might not be real to you. But I promise you someday it will be. There will be a moment where you're forced to feel the emptiness, the hole that I made inside of you for myself, but that you were too afraid to let me stay in.
