OK, I as Matt from Electric Voice pointed out via a txt message this morning.. I lied. Grand Trine's last official release is an original song "NEANDERTHAL MAN" which is being release on the very cool Electric Voice DOUBLE LP Compilation featuring us and Ariel Pink, R. Stevie Moore, Roland S. Howard (R.I.P), Jeff & Jane Hudson, d'Eon, Automelodi, Femmineli & many others. How cool is it to share a release with Jeff & Jane + Roland S. Howard??? I don't know. That's bananas to me. 

It started shipping today. Limited to 500. Someday it's definitely gonna end up in the strange rare record Hall of Fame aka Ebay. It's quite the ambitious art project for young Mr. Samways. Congrats to him for making it real.

So there's two new GT records out within a month now that we're dead after years of spinning our tires and releasing very little. I don't claim to understand how the world works.

It's 3 years in the making (or 45 years depending on your view point) but it's finally out. Pictured on the left is the new Grand Trine - I Need You Baby/Say It 7" and on the right is the Bohemians - I Need You Baby/Say It 7 from 1967". Both were pressed in runs of only 300. Less than 100 copies of the new GT one remain and can be ordered now via Almost Ready Records in Brooklyn or grabbed on Ebay. 

I've been telling the story til I'm blue in the face these past few years. So all I will say at this point is this is the only record I've ever played on that means anything at all or holds any weight for me personally. As a person with very few family ties, and a very minimal family spread thinly across the globe it acts as a thread between estranged kith and kin, the present and the past, and also the reasons I started making music at all when the first instrument was handed to me. We knew the group was dissolving before it was even released but it just seemed like an important record to exist. I want to thank Harry at the label for understanding that and being so enthusiastic about the project anyway. Thankfully they are almost sold-out so I am worrying less and enjoying it more.

As Shub and I enter different worlds lately touring with Dirty Beaches or Cosmetics, travelling around the world and doing things we've always wanted to do, I am so happy  our collaborative efforts of the past 4 years amounted to at least one 45RPM single that means something. I now feel like we did what we always wanted to do and we can finally move forward. Thank you!

I guess we forgot to mention that Bathetic Records+ William Cody Watson + Alex Zhang Hungtai have put together a concept compilation featuring the crew (our underground friends/family/extended family). 

It's a free download that has been passed around the internet a lot this past week. It even scored album of the week in the Montreal Mirror.

Interesting factoid: The cover art was shot by Alex on Mulholand Drive in California.

A Tip of the hat to GQ magazine for asking Alex (Dirty Beaches) to model for them. I picked this mag up at a Jersey Turnpike pit stop. The same one were Emily met Lady Gaga, perhaps fame visits said magic pit stop.

This is me pissing my pants when the crowd forcibly pinned me to the ceiling during our cover of 'Sex Beat' by The Gun Club in Toronto last week. This was more akin to being bullied and stuffed in a locker in high school than Iggy walking on a sea of people and throwing peanut butter. Thankfully after a few minutes when the lyrics go "Sex beat.. drop!" they let me down.

Plus us warming up. This is the 1st picture of the new lineup that exists. Beatings aside, it was the best gig we've played with the new crew/new songs yet. Toronto has been consistently fun the last 5 or 6 times we've been there.

I just found out that my grandfather Abe Rochman (R.I.P.) plays the character Parkins in the David Cronenberg film Shivers which was filmed in Montreal in the '70s! I can't wait to rent it!

We are pleased to announce our next release is a 45" dedicated to the music of my estranged father. It will be out soon thanks to ALMOST READY RECORDS in Brooklyn, NYC. The Bohemians were a band who would later turn into the much more known & loved Montreal group The Haunted. They were apparently the first group in Montreal to grow their hair long. Our cover of the B-side "Say It" has been floating around the internet for about a year but this release will also feature Shub & I doing our interpretation of "I Need You Baby" on the A-side. We took a few more liberties with this new cover and it sounds pretty messed up and crazy. I have been listening to the original single since I was a kid and it means a lot to me have an opportunity to pay homage to it. Pre-order info soon!
