Grave Ground (Graves) is an original story made by me ( @beentobeetle ) !

Graves is a body-horror based ‘coming-of-age’ story, set in an overturned and infected America. Technology is stuck within the late 2000’s, parasitic flies plague the air, and everybody left alive is far too scared of the outside world to fight with one another.

The narrative follows a brother and sister duo — Benny and Olive Weiss — on their journey through an ever-changing, and undeniably rotting, world. They’re joined by one Johnathan Barrett, a doctor who’s taken a keen interest in the two, and chased by the man’s ex-lab partner, Gabriel Hamilton.

Silly coffee shop AU YEAAHHHHHHHAHH

Benny and Olive work together at a tiny coffee shop within their hometown, managed and owned by Gabe. Benny and Olive are orphans, but with Olive being of legal age, they’re able to live on their own. As much as Gabe beefs with the two of them, he can’t exactly fire them, as he’d feel bad and … well they’re the only workers that havent quit after a few weeks.

Barrett is an entomologist and writer, who owns a small ‘oddities’ store just across from Gabe’s cafe — which, he also lives in.

I just felt like making something silly, and the idea of these guys living perfectly normal lives just … dreamy sigh … it warms my heart

how did Benny feel about his father?

Verryyy weird. He wants to care more about the man, but every time he tries to mourn he finds a wall of complicated indifference.

Olive talks about him so fondly, but Benny only knew his father after his mother’s passing. He knew a Frederick Weiss that was nothing but life lessons and survival tricks. He was loving, of course! But, not in the way he was be to Olive.

I think that’s the reason Benny is so quick to latch onto Barrett, and why he wants to see Gabe as a good person. He had a father, not a dad, and he wants that connection more than anything.

He grieves the idea of his dad more than the man himself.
