#Me coming back from work
And This is where my brain exploded. I was like, that's the trailer. Like, we actually moved. How are we supposed to believe this house? I'm like putting down the bed. Like wasn't there a back bedroom? But they had to get rid of the hallway that was back there because the trailer would've been the, and when we saw the trailer in previous episodes or previous seasons, there was a back hallway to other rooms that they then have to like wall off and act like they don't exist...Because it has to be a the size of a trailer. Trailer. -RiderĀ

JAG | 3x23 Wedding Bell Blues
Things I imagine happened after the JAG series finale and really hope NCIS LA will show (or at least tell) me, because I waited for more than 15 years and I deserve to know what happened.
Harm and Mac decided a date for the wedding and started the papers to legally adopt Mattie as soon as they walked out of the bar, while their friends planned the whole wedding in less than a week
They married in the hospital chapel to allow a still paralyzed Mattie to be there on the big day, and they almost cried seeing Chloe sitting on Mattieās bed asking her if she needed anything every two minutes or so and the two of them acting very sister-like. Even Sergei got back in time for the cerimony and to ask Jen out on a date. Everyone made a toast, but Chegwidden made the most beautiful and emotional one leaving every single person with their eyes in tears
The coin decided on Macās side, so they moved to San Diego after they got full custody of Mattie. Mac got her job, Harm was super proud and supporting his wife career and decided to stay at home for some time to take care of Mattie and to help her adjuste to her new life -the doctors said she would walk again eventually, but she would need crutches all her life. Nevertheless, she gained back her mobility, even though she mostly moved on her wheelchair because walking tired her really fast. Harm bought a small plane and once a week he took Mattie to fly because he knew how much his girl missed the sky, and their father-daughter afternoon were their favorite part of the week, even when Harm came back to work after Mattie got better. Harm and Mac were there by her side every step of the way, and on Christmas after Mattieās 18th birthday her gift for them was the adoption papers already signed by her
Jen also moved to San Diego because Chegwidden wanted her to be happy with her family too, so he found a place for her in the city JAGās division. Sergei visited her every time he could, and they took their relationship slowly, but at the end he moved in with her and some years later they married and had kids, while Jen got higher and higher in the chain of command at work because she wanted to be an admiral
Mac never got a chance to have a child of her own due to her severe endometriosis, but she and Harm decided to become foster parents to help as many kids they could, and ended up adopting a couple of them. Mattie was the coolest sister ever, she never really wanted sibilings but she loved and cared about every kid who entered her home.
Despite the distance, all JAG family stood in contact. They visited when they could, especially Bud and Harriet loved to take their kids to San Diego for the sea and their friends, their kids growing up together pestering the adults with all their mischiefs. No one could ever forget the Thanksgiving dinner when James Kirk Roberts came out twice, once as gay and once as Star Wars fan, causing his father an heartbreak because being gay? Absolutely no problem, he was still Budās beloved son. Loving Star Wars more than Star Trek especially when your namesake is the James T. Kirk? Dishonour! Luckily he still had the fantasy lover A.J. and the twins, particularly Nikki who was daddyās little geek girl, a copy of Bud with his passions and she would never betray her father choosing Star Wars over Star Trek (Iām joking btw, Iām a huge fan of both universes)
Chloe visited a lot too, usually spent all her holidays there and she had her own bedroom, and when she was older she decided to go to college in San Diego to be near her family while she studied to become a pediatric nurse. She and Mattie became sisters (the kind that bicker a lot but at the end of the day they would kill everyone who hurt the other), and Chloe was the first person after Jen Mattie came out to -but Harm and Mac always knew, they just didnāt say anything waiting for her to talk to them. They became not only sisters but best friends, and Chloe was Mattieās maid of honour and godmother of her adoptive kids.
Nowadays Harm and Mac are still super in love, happily married with two good careers and a big family, but they still laugh thinking about how long it took them to come together. But at the end they did, and thatās what truly matters.
i feel like the most important piece of wisdom i can impart on teenagers is that no oneāno oneāknows what the fuck theyāre doing
my brother is 26 years old, makes $200k a year, and just bought a house with his fiance. heās the success story you hear about but never actually meet in person, but it all happened by accident. he wanted to go to college for clarinet performance, but he got rejected from all the top schools. so he decided to major in physics instead, and then went on to get a doctorate to put off being an adult for a few more years. but then he ended up dropping out halfway through the program and accepting a job with google as a software engineer. so to reiterate: my brother majored in something he was not interested in, and then he got a job that had nothing to do with his degree.Ā
he isnāt successful because he had some master plan he followed, he just stumbled around blindly until something worked out. and thatās what weāre all doingāi majored in political science and now i do customer service for a company that makes industrial-sized gas detection monitors. the marketing director at my company has a degree in biology, and my mom has an MBA and works at a middle school. Ā no one knows what theyāre doing, weāre all just trying different things until something works out.
so if you donāt have a plan, thatās fine. most of us donāt. and even those of us who do, donāt usually end up doing the thing they thought they would. itās okay to relax and let life carry you wherever itās gonna carry you. because even though a lot of us donāt end up doing the thing we wanted, most of us end up happy anyway.
Iāve been thinking about this post since I made it a few hours ago, and I realized that I literally donāt know anyone whoās doing what they thought theyād be doing at this point in their life. I know a girl that has a degree in neuroscience and works in a restaurant (and makes quite a bit more money than I do, might I add), and a guy who wanted to be a parole officer but is now a security guard. I know people who wanted to be lawyers but ended up not having the grades for law school. I have a friend whoās 24 and just finished her bachelorās, and two friends who decided to go to grad school because the idea of joining the adult world terrified them.
When I was seventeen, I was 100% sure that I was going to get a job as a bureaucrat and save the world. When I was a 21-year-old recent college grad, I found out that itās impossible to get a government job unless you know someone. So I gave up and found something else. I know my teenage self would be disappointed if she could see where Iām at, but you know what? I donāt care. Because teenage me was an idiot. She didnāt know anything about the world or how it worked, and she couldnāt have possibly predicted the curveballs that life would throw at her. And because I donāt know a single person whoās doing the thing they wanted to do when they were teenagers.
I know a thousand people who arenāt where they thought theyād be, and zero people who are following the path they set out for themselves. All of us are confused and all of us are scared, and itās okay if you are too.
Honestly thank u, i needed to hear this again
i wanted to add some stories to this!! because its true! no one has any idea, or doesnt realize they have no idea until theyāre way in
my dad got a bachelors in chemistry, then applied to a masterās program specifically to work with one professor. after he accepted, he found out that the professor wasnt teaching that program anymore. he finished his degree, said fuck this, i dont want to work in aĀ laboratory, and went to law school instead to practice patent law and adores every aspect of his career. probably never would have happened if that one professorĀ had stayed to teach.
my aunt didnāt have the chance at college when she was younger because her relationship with education (and being poor) just wasnāt conducive to higher ed. now sheās 35, married with 3 kids, and halfway through an associates degree to be a medical tech (and one of the top students in the class), because she realized adult-her was more compatible with college than teenage-her
my uncle was (weirdly enough) so highly experienced that he kept getting laid off from/leaving major companies because they couldnt/wouldnt pay the proper salary for a man of his skill level. eventually, he said fuck that and went back to school to get his doctorate, then a few years later got a job as a professor of business admin/marketing and heās really really good at itĀ
and even the people you think have linear paths, good news: they dont. my mom grew up in the german education system, and knew from hs she wanted to be a lawyer. went all the way through the law course in uni, then immigrated to the us to go to an american law school. she got a job at a private firm doing translations from german to english (i think??) and when her contract there ended, moved to doing government work in a completely different field. i have no idea what she studied specifically at university, if at all. so even tho on the outside she looks perfectly linear, she really wasnt
education & career paths are not linear !Ā Ā everyone has weird little twists and turns and some funky loops ! some peoples are just much larger and more noticeable! but please donāt thinkĀ āthat person has their shit together and i dont T_Tā because i promise you theyāre probably thinking the same thing about themselves
āI just once want to know how it feels to be somebodyās number one.ā
