“I don’t need your money. It’s fine.” It really was. With the chances of her returning his favor being so slim, she supposed the two of them would be even after this exchange. “I hated that stupid blouse anyway –good riddance.” Here she stopped to examine his shirt, hoping that she would not look too ridiculous in something that was obviously not going to fit her well. Perhaps she’d stop to buy something else on her way to her mother’s home. Or perhaps she’d forfeit going all together, lest her mother think that her wearing or carrying a men’s shirt with her meant that she was dating someone.
She started walking towards the building, eager to change clothes, then noticed the sign on the door: “Wet paint… what? Why didn’t I… Of course…”
“ Well.. the shirts at least compensation.. Sorry it doesn’t quite go with the outfit you’re wearing right now. “ - Grayson frowned sympathetically, before offering her a kindly chuckle,” Well, call me the next time you need help emptying your closet then, eh? “ the taller of the two couldn’t help the smile that had taken away his previous expression. When he heard her give pause at the door, he turned to grin over his shoulder at her, her mannerisms reminding him of his own mother as he held the door open, “ Easy mistake. I just figured putting it on the door was smarting than putting it in the middle of the actual wet paint. “

“Alright,” Danny agreed, when Grayson explained what he was going to do. It seemed like a good place to start. He really did need to exercise more, and having someone to talk too about all of these problems might be good too. Was he pessimistic about it? Slightly… but who wouldn’t be? He’d never seen a shrink before. Maybe it was what he needed. “That sounds great—I’d love to meet again. Whenever you can, or whatever’s available.”
Standing after hanging him his card, Grayson offered the other man a smile,” I will be attending your workout sessions, up until the point where I think it’s time to try and give you a chance to do this on your own. We’ll work out together, through the withdrawl.. “ - he explained as he held his hand out to the shorter man,” I look forward to seeing you again, you can talk to my secretary and let her know your next available date and if I’m booked- I will make space for you.” - because he wanted Danny to know that he had a support system he could actually count on.
peesutcliffe:
“I dunno. Maybe when she’s older. Right now it’s just hard enough trying to manage everyday life by yourself. Let alone trying to fit vacation planning in with all of that as well.” Dammit Pippa, she internally chastised herself. She’d just met the guy and yet here she was freely talking about her concerns. But then again, that was his job wasn’t it? To make people feel comfortable talking about things they normally wouldn’t.
So his first assumptions were correct.. She was a single mother- but it was obviously a touchy subject, and therefore, he had no desire of pushing her. She had a small child with her, and he really wasn’t a pusher.. Not unless it was someone close to him, and they were harming themselves.. “ Yeah, that does put a little wrench in the mix. Well there is plenty of scenary, and fun to be had, here in New York. Have you two been to Central Park, or Ellis Island?? “
finleydarling:
“You do realize not every soldier that comes through your door is the same right?” Finley asked as he turned to look at him. “I have people in my life I can talk to, my sister my parents…I could get through this I’m not on my own and yea I feel crap but don’t think I need you.” He was a southern boy and thick headed at the best of times, the thing he hated most in the world was people trying to control him or make out they knew how he felt. Finley sat up placing his hands in his lap as he looked back at the other. “Why am I here? I’m here because I screwed up, 12 men walked out of camp that day and some how I’m the only one left? I’m the damn medic it was my job to save them all, I was supposed to keep them alive and I didn’t. And I can’t sleep, I can’t and sometimes breathing hurts because of the guilt I feel weighing on my chest. So don’t tell me you know how it feels, I’ve lost men before and I’ve dealt with it but how useless must I be to have not saved a single man in my unit.”
Grayson was not the sort to assume much.. Most of his word came from a basis of deductions.. He had a general list of people still alive and associated with Finley, he had many of them written down and had notes on them as well, had perhaps talked to them over the phone as well to see how he’d been coping and how they had been able to handle the situation in an isolated area.. He had to factor in..a lot as a therapist to vets.. He was thorough. “ Hmmn.. “ - he replied, writing once more in his notes. Several trains of thought split off in his head as he forced himself to ignore his natural urge to respond to the mans comments about telling him who he was. Sure, he’d already heard him now admit that he was struggling, and if whatever his family could have given him as support, was helping.. he wouldn’t have been there.. But.. like most people who were stoic, and hurting- he wasn’t ready to admit it..
Making a few notes, despite the recorder rolling, he nodded as he listened to the mans depiction. It wasn’t uncommon. Even non-medical types had this reaction.. He’d shifted the entire weight of the blame, onto himself. The route source of this whole issue..was learning to cope with the trauma.. “ And have you experienced other casualities, in other excursions.. ? Not solely based upon your particular section.. “ Survivors guilt was always a difficult spot to crack.. But.. he wasn’t going to give up on Finley..
lukebarron:
Oblivious as ever, Luke only threw his friend a grin before setting off on a light job. He winced, as quiet as he could, pain shooting up his leg every time his foot hit the pavement. He should probably walk home, but Luke figured it would hurt worse once he cooled down from his workout. “I don’t! Plan is still to kick your ass, go home, shower, and sleep like a baby. Why? You got anything exciting planned for tonight?”
“ I’m gonna whack you in the ass if you keep jogging- you psycho. “ - Grayson cried out after him as Luke began to jog once more. “ Are you trying to fuck your legs up? “ Jogging up next to the other man, he nudged him with his shoulder and shook his head,” You’re in a hurry to kick my ass? Or have your ass handed to you? You and I both need to eat something high protein before any of the rest of that- so what you will be doing is going to get some food with me, eh- mach man randy savage?”

lukebarron:
Luke considered his words for a second and then narrowed his eyes at him. He took his hand regardless and let Grayson pull him up to his feet. “Thanks,” he said, though a little begrudgingly. He didn’t feel like he needed a break. He could have kept going, leg cramp be damned. “Hmm!” Luke put his hand to his chin, pretending to think between the two options Grayson had presented to explain his behavior. “I’m gonna go with the first one,” he finally said, giving him a grin. “Sounds more likely.” He patted his friend on the back and motioned for him to follow. “Lets get going, yeah?”
Standing with him, properly, all Grayson could do was smile as he listened to his friends deductions. Oh how wrong he was. Even if it was a joke.. He was ..so far from wrong.. “ You know me so well.. “ - the more lanky of the two replied as he straightened up and followed along side him,” What, you got new plans now? “
dannygrieco:
Danny didn’t really say anything when Grayson began to talk about his father. That was rough. Danny wasn’t on good terms with his own father; they hardly spoke, and when they did speak, they tended to argue more than anything. Things had been rough for almost as long as he could remember—since he was a teenager, at least. He didn’t really have any family to lean upon. Though he supposed he had created his own family with the friends he had, he didn’t want to bother them with what he was dealing with—he wasn’t ever really good at talking about his feelings, and he almost always had his guard up. “Family can be complicated.” He replied in an even measured tone, deciding to leave it at that. He swallowed roughly as he took the business card from Grayson, pulling out his wallet as he put the card away somewhere safe to keep it. “Okay. I’ll, uh. I’ll try.” It was so easy to say that he would give it a shot, but he really had no idea if it would work out. He was apprehensive, to say the least.
Nodding to the other man’s statement, and acceptance of his card, Grayson slowly stood up and looked Danny over. “ I’m going to write you up a schedule. We’ll sit down again to talk soon if you’re interested in coming back, and just spend a session , going over what your typical day looks like. You tell me your usual habits, and we’ll fill in the blanks together. Make sure you have every chance, to do the right thin for yourself. Alright? “
la-muy-muy:
“Oh! You don’t need to do that, sweetie,” she said, though without making any attempts at stopping him –and in fact seeming quite satisfied with his offer. “But I promise I’ll get it back to you as soon as I possibly can.” She wouldn’t. Not because she was in any way interested in keeping his shirt for herself, but rather because she would probably forget all about giving it back within a few days. Such was her life. “Thank you so much. You’re a life saver.”
“ It’s really no trouble. In fact you’re doing me a service, at least you’re taking this duplicate shirt from me. “ - Grayson attempted to joke ever so slightly, his smile soft as he finished passing the shirt to her, while sliding his blazer back on. “ Once you get changed, I’ll be sure to give you the money to help pay for getting your new shirt. I can’t stand to think that it’s ruined and you aren’t appropriately compensated.. “
skilledfxckup:
“Fucking freak.” Barnaby laughed, his tone playful as he eyed Grayson for a second, before finishing off his blunt, licking and folding the paper down. “It’s just weed dude. I only do weed.. well, I did fucking everything a few years back, but, that was some unhealthy shit.” He declared, slipping the blunt in between his lips and sparked up, inhaling a drag. “Ugh.. I need a female voice dude. I need some chick to come in here and record this verse for me. But I don’t know who the fuck to call or who will best suit the idea in my mind.”
Chuckeling softly, Grayson moved to sit on the couch that had been there for as long as he’d known the other man. “ I meant whats the name.. Blue Dream, Diablo OG? Pineapple Express? “ the taller of the pair simply shook his head head and shrugged his shoulders,” Couldn’t begin to help you there man. I have absolutely no singing connections other than you.. That I’m aware of. “
holdenyates:
“I don’t know?” Holden replied as he looked over. “It’s weird I guess. I don’t try and scare her, and sometimes I don’t because she openly talks back. It’s just she drives me absolutely insane sometimes, you know. We’ll just be having a normal conversation and she’ll nag me. She’ll call me this or that or tell me I’m a horrible father and I snap.” he admitted with a shrug. “And it isn’t like I don’t talk about my feelings. I tell her how much that annoys me and she just….does it again.”
Holden bit at his lip at the other’s question, giving him a shrug. “I don’t know.” he admitted quietly. “My mother’s just this…terrifying woman. I mean she’s as fucking tall as me, for starters.” he explained as he began plying with his fingers. His face scrunched up as he other explained it was rather normal. “That’s nasty and it’s not like that.” he explained. “I don’t have a fucking edipus complex. I thought we disproved Freud.” he sighed as he sat up, rubbing his hands over his temples.
“So you think I’m a pussy?” he asked plain and simple. “You think I’m a coward and a pussy, and that I hurt things that are smaller than me….because I’m afraid of my mom?” he asked before laughing. He shook his head. “God well at least that joke was better than your last.” he sighed, before humming at the last question. “I dunno. I was thinking about Harrison I guess. Thinking about how….how he could possibly be happy here…if I wasn’t…if I’m not..”
“ So why is it, that you allow her to stay in your life then? “ - he wasn’t going to incline Holden towards any particular answer. He wanted him to respond with what he thought the reasoning was himself, or why he justified it.
“ I didn’t mention anything about Oedipal scenarios. I’m not saying you in specific, I’m saying every human does it. Whether we realize it or not. “ - Grayson shrugged slightly,” We search for what we were missing, or we search for what is familiar. Some of us certainly search for what we think we want, but it’s more easy to find that the relationships we settle for, are ones that undoubtedly, bare similarity to the rest of our lives. It’s why it is so common to hear people say things like ‘ I don’t know why I keep ending up with people like this ‘ - it’s because we are internally drawn to those sorts of things. “
Writing down his reaction to the statement, he kept his eyes focused between the two, both Holden and his notes,” I see.. “ - he spoke thoughtfully, giving him no more than that,” Are you accustomed to making assumptions of what others mean? Do you think perhaps this is also what might be happening with the mother of your child? “ - Grayson asked listening to the other man’s depiction of the scenario. “ What makes you think that? “ he noted how interesting it was, that the man was being unfaithful, while having those thoughts, curious over his entire thought process..
ethanxmonroe:
A fond smile appeared on Ethan’s lips when Grayson talked about Ian. He truly was a force of nature, one that had swept him right off his feet the moment he’d met him, even if that hadn’t clicked until a few more conversations and days spent with him. “That is very true, he’d most definitely something else,” he confirmed with a laugh and a nod because after all, the other male was completely right and had hit the nail on the head. “Phew! I would’ve been worried if you had been,” he joked and was quick to shake his head when his friend apologized. “No, no, don’t worry! I didn’t mind at all, I was just a little…thrown off,” he told him with another laugh that was accompanied with a genuine smile. “It’s just not a very common gesture, I think,” Ethan reasoned as he grinned at the other. “That’s okay, I’m glad you feel that way about Ian and me,” he told him and they swiftly fell back into their conversation. “Honestly? Sometimes I have to remind myself that he’s actually real. His mind works in ways I can’t quite comprehend but I think that’s the beauty of knowing him the way I do – he’s so different from the way I am but at the same time, we’re kindred spirits in a lot of ways,” Ethan gushed for a moment, an almost bashful smile tugging on his lips before he snorted at what Grayson told him. “Could you imagine having to hand those over to your patients? I feel like you’d either have your own reality show by now or no patients at all,” he teased.
Grayson could only grin with a shared mindset at Ethan’s words as he heard the man respond. Ian was their common grounds, and they both seemed to share a similar view of him. Though certainly, Ethan’s was a touch more intimate. “ Well.. I do admit it isn’t all that common anymore. Good to know I didn’t put you off. I’d hate to make our mutual friendships, awkward. “ As they fell back into their normal conversation with ease, Gray studied his face as the other man spoke, watching the way his eyes lit up as he discussed his lover, and his own best friend.. It was such a pleasant feeling.. knowing that Ian was so well cared for, but this wonderful man. Ian was like his family, truthfully. How well their parents knew one another, how often he’d been to dinner before he’d gotten famous. He knew how much his mother personally pestered Ian, so to say that he was relieved that Ethan was in his life, was an understatement. Coming out of his own head, he smiled at him and shook his head,” If I were crazy enough to do that, I would have lost my license to practice. There would be no way in hell I could ever manage a show like that. That, and it would be insanely difficult ot hide the fact that I like men. After all, most my patients are military veterans- and there is nothing worse than attempting to help a bunch of close minded vets, when they know you like men. “ The taller of the pair chuckled as he lifted his glass to sip from it once more.
