“GAH—” Peridot had not noticed the taller green alien standing there until she’d heard her speak. Great. She’d acted scared in front of someone she didn’t know.

“….Yeah, wouldn’t recommend trying that. We have ways of stopping you.” She also needed to learn not to be so smug just because she was friends with Steven.

“Well, the crushing thing is understandable. I would do the same thing after all. Of course, I would have succeeded but who am I to blame you?” Dominator shrugged, tossing Peridot an irritated look once the gem cut her story off. 

Whatever, it wasn’t that important anyway.   

“So, these rocks just hang around protecting this tiny, basically worthless planet?” Sounded about right, people always got so unreasonably defensive over their pathetic home.

Peridot became noticeably irritated at Dominator’s tone when talking about the Crystal Gems, especially since she hardly knew them.

“They don’t just hang around, and the planet is NOT worthless. Yes they do have leisure time, but they work hard to make sure the planet isn’t destroyed by-- by-- people like you!” Peridot said through her teeth, tired of being used by the other for Diamond knows what.

“Hey Peri!”  Black Star called out as she stepped into the barn.  Her satchel filled to the brim with various goodies for the evening.  “You ready for the marathon?”  The grey gem smirked, quirking both of her eyebrows.  Earlier the two of them had planned a Camp Pining Hearts marathon.  “I got snacks!”

Peridot had been waiting not so patiently for the smaller Gem to arrive and immediately her eyes widened behind her visor, a grin appearing on her face. “You bet I am! And.... I can’t wait to try these snacks you’ve mentioned. They sound... good.”

“Of course it’s real.” Dominator blatantly lied, either choosing to ignore Peridot’s disappointment or just outright missing it.

The villain impatiently shifted around, fiddling with her hands. “I asked how you met your friends.” She repeated, taking another step closer to the gem. She had no shame in manipulating Peridot to get her answers, honestly, it was so easy she almost deserved them at this point.  She had no intention on returning the favor, of course. All of her information was her own, why should she share it?

Peridot at this point knew she was being used, she wasn’t sure for what, but she just knew it. Yet somehow, she couldn’t stop answering the other.

“...Well it was more like... uh... they met me first. One of them decided to try and befriend me while I was inspecting an important... experiment thing... that was taking place. That was my mission on Earth. Anyway... he tried to befriend me. I asked him questions. Then proceeded to try and crush him. And then his friends took over, I said I was going to report them... Do you need to hear the whole story? How we became friends? Because I don’t want to share that.”

“Well, you’re no fun.” Dominator rolled her eyes, pulling away from the other alien. “I was just curious. I didn’t know that was a crime.”

She brushed her hair off her shoulders, giving Peridot a smirk. “And here I was thinking friends were supposed to tell each other things. Well, must have gotten that wrong!”

“Friends are-- ....they are.... supposed to tell each other things... I just... feel like... I don’t... feel like this is real,” Peridot muttered, sounding somewhat disappointed. Not surprised, just disappointed.

“....Could you... repeat the last questions...”

She had wanted to be friends with Dominator. She really did. But knowing the other’s nature - or at least, whatever front she put up - it was hard to get through to her. She felt like Dominator’s interest in what she had to say had some kind of ulterior motive. She hated feeling that way, but she couldn’t help it.

“So, these Crystal Gems protect this planet, huh? I’m assuming they’re pretty tough. Bet you have some glory stories about them!” The villain said, giving the gem a crooked smile. “Or at least some about yourself.”

“Well I don’t really know what else to say about them since a lot of those stories involved them fighting me when... I was a villain... at one point,” Peridot said, clearing her throat.

“I guess my story is that I joined th--” And then she finally snapped out of it somehow, narrowing her eyes at the other. “........I think I’ve said too much. I’m not saying anymore.”

Dominator tipped her head, placing her other hand on Peridot’s shoulder. This was like taking candy from a baby, honestly. Not that she had anything against doing something like that, of course~

“Wow! That’s so cool. You’re so brave.” Dominator complimented, almost gagging on her own words. “Go on, tell me more about your friends. How come they aren’t here with you?”

She wasn’t sure whether it was from the other’s hands being on her shoulders, but she definitely felt warmer all of a sudden. What kind of effect was this, anyway? What was going on?

“Th- They uh.... I think they’re on a mission. I have awhile before I learn to properly fight, as I... think I’ve said before. And. Um. Wow you’re really close.” Peridot hadn’t meant to say that last part out loud.

“Homeworld?” Dominator asked, ducking her head down so she and Peridot were now around the same eye level. “Not ones for creativity, huh?” She smirked, lightly brushing the gem’s cheek with her finger. She’d seen that in a few shows, so she figured it would work.

“Hey, you mentioned something about Crystal Rocks or whatever? I’ll admit that I’m curious. What exactly are they?”

Peridot shook her head in response to the other’s question about creativity, then somehow ended up responding to her question about the Crystal Gems. It seemed like she able to get Peridot to say or do almost anything she wanted, but Peridot had no idea why this was happening.

“They’re um... Gems, like me. Who... fight off corrupted Gems and other enemies to... protect the Earth. They’ve been around for... uh.. thousands of years. I’m not nearly as old as they are, but... they’re much... stronger and more powerful than me... I only.. joined them recently after realizing that my superior planned on destroying this planet without... using its resources and so I... defied her.”

Dominator had no idea what a human was nor did she care. Stupid species name if you asked her.  

“I was right! You are cuter when you shut your mouth.” Dominator teased, managing to keep from rolling her eyes. Maybe she was laying it on too hard at this point, but she was going somewhere with this. 

“Hmm, really? Is that your, uh, “power”? Becoming taller? I suppose that can come in handy.”

“I didn’t know what my power was before this, actually. Originally they were given to me... from Homeworld so I could go on this mission to Earth, but apparently I can... summon them... now.”

She then became aware of how close the other had moved her face towards her own, and if Gems had hearts, hers would have stopped. Dominator had to be onto something here, right? No one had actively flirted with Peridot before -- except maybe Amethyst -- so it felt like something was off, but Peridot was honestly too enamored with how beautiful this alien was to think clearly.

“What a vocabulary. I’m impressed.” Dominator added, moving closer to the gem. She could work with this. She could do flattery. 

“And, hey! That bubble orb trick you did was pretty cool. A feature of your amour?” At least Dominator assumed the longer limbs Peridot now owned were amour. She would also love a chance to take take them apart and study it. They looked very intriguing.

Peridot nodded slowly in response to Dominator’s question, not thinking to correct her and tell her that her enhancers weren’t exactly armor, just a mere extension that gave her the power to defend herself.

“The bubble orb, uh… it was nothing really–” she said quietly, a sheepish grin now plastered on her face, her cheeks still light blue.

Dominator leaned even closer to the gem, so that she was only a few inches away from Peridot. 

“Well, it was cool! Do you mind telling me how it works? It looks very interesting.” The villain asked, lightly placing a hand on the other alien’s shoulder. “Did you build it yourself?” Grop was this easy or what?

Oh Diamond, was Dominator actually flirting with her? Not that she minded, but this was... unexpected.

"It... well it has to do with the circuitry and the... uh... it's Gem technology really, not as easy to find on Earth. But these... most Gems have... powers... to summon weapons with their Gems and it's... um... sort of magical at least by... h.. human standards."

Her hand was... on her shoulder. Well. This was... something.
