I love hearing others speak their honest opinions about Fitz. Because we are in Fitz's head, and he can be an unreliable narrator, it's fascinating to learn how he is actually perceived.

Like in his childhood he was actually quite liked all things considered. He was considered handsome and also strong as well as reliable, for the coastal dutchies to considered him as a leader for them in the end of the Royal Assassin. Fitz got often stuck only on the negative aspects and felt poorly about himself.

By the time we get to the Tawny Man trilogy, he is actually quite dangerous. All the scars, his bad temper and wolfs habits make him really scary for everyone who doesn't know him. One of my favourite wolf habit of his is freezing when confronted with something he either doesn't want to answer to or doesn't know how to. It probably looks so funny to everyone else.

And above all: how the Fool sees him. Fitz has no idea. Like yes he learns about the Fool's feelings but he still doesn't get it. He brings up bedding when the quarrel starts, but that's so not the point. The Fool's feelings and how he perceives Fitz is so much bigger than that one thing. And yes, Fitz thinks all type of crazy things about his Fool all the time. He doesn't realise how differently he thinks of everyone else compared to the Fool. So how could he ever truly understand how differently the Fool sees him, when he doesn't even fully understand his own thoughts.

Can't believe I started Assassin's Apprentice because I had heard about Robin Hobb being a really good writer and I had a need for a good woman written fantasy series. I really enjoyed the first book, all the characters and the world, and as expected, the writing was amazing. So I continued reading.

Little did I know that I was selling my soul and heart to go through a life changing experience. The price being, like I said, my soul and my heart. Both have already been crushed and scattered around all the pages I have gone through and Fool's Fate earning the most amount of tears so far.

I will be starting the Rain Wild Chronicles soon and I'm so excited (especially to get to the Fitz and the Fool) but also I can't accept that there will be an end to this story.

The whole idea about the symbolic importance of names in The Six Duchies will always be my favourite part about the book series. In a land where there is a tradition to give your kid names that would "shape their lives and beings", and then Fitz legit just doesn't have much of a name for his first couple of years, and when he is informed that he has one it's after a father he has never met, or "my boy" from a mentor who loves him but also sees him as an extension of himself, or an alias used in secret letters from his parental figures, or literally "Fitz" as in "son/bastard" by the man who saw him as a reflection of his father, or "new boy" by a girl who represents a life (to him) that he's always desired but never felt like he fit into, or the name he took upon himself to try move on from his deeply traumatic experiences?

The experiences that made him define his sense of self to how valuable he is to those around him? That makes him believe he does not deserve to be loved...or cannot be loved...simply for being him? For himself?

and his soulmate comes from a place where you give your name to someone you love? And their name means "dearly loved"? Yeah, no. Wrap it up. We're done.

you ever think about how fitz was a little boy and no one had ever taken his side and how much it meant for someone to look at him and tell him you're right. you have my support.

another thing that chade did that pisses me off: when he told fitz he has no ambition and too much caution! it's almost as if he was kept as a stablehand for years, was dressed beneath his station, was reminded repeatedly that he's a bastard and that his uncle can try and kill him all he wants and get away with it, lived with his head down so no one will pay too much attention to chivalry's bastard, was made into a literal tool so it wouldn't cross his mind for a second that he could be the next king, and the few times he did act according to his own will he was accused of usurpring the throne and got tortured to death. gee, chade, how dare your child assassin have too much caution!
