The Road to France was tough, and the journey was tougher but for Northern Ireland passion made all the difference.

The Green and White Army swarmed to France to support their Ulster boys through all of this and there is not one moment of regret. Northern Ireland is a small country in the U.K. with a population of not even 2 million, and still they came to France and showed everyone that they were not to be underestimated. Brilliant defensive play saw the Ulster boys concede only three goals in the tournament, which for a country who has not been to a major competition since 1982, is phenomenal. This Irish golden generation must go home empty handed, but knowing they played with their hearts on their sleeves made all the difference. We are all so proud of you, and lastly, Gareth McAuley don’t go hard on yourself. We have always loved you, we always will. You tried your best.

I write this with a heavy heart, knowing Northern Ireland gave their absolute best to do their country proud. These men should be proud of their performance in this European cup, it has been a historic campaign for their country. Our Ulster boys have worked harder than ever, even in the group of death, they showed potential to make it out. It’s unfortunate that this didn’t work out, but we are all proud of them. From Paddy McCourt to Steven Davis, you have done us proud. We will always love you, you’ve inspired a hope in us that Northern Ireland hasn’t felt as a nation since the 1982 World Cup.
