'Agent Lomas' needs more time, says Dailly
West Ham favourite Christian Dailly has defended former teammate Steve Lomas amid widespread criticism of the under-fire Millwall boss.
The Lions are just one point off the Championship relegation zone after Saturday's 5-1 home defeat to Derby and Lomas' Hammers background has made him widely unpopular with supporters, some of whom erected a 'F*ck Off Lomas' banner outside the New Den recently. However, former Scotland defender Dailly can sympathise with the Northern Irishman.
Writing in The Courier, he said: "I've been really surprised at the results [under Lomas at Millwall] and I've not spoken to him since he's gone there, but what I will say is that the pressure on him must be huge."
"His history at West Ham wouldn't have been a problem if they had won their first few games, but it does start to cause a bit of an issue when you start to lose."
"There's obviously been some sort of issue there before Steve came in and I just hope he gets the time and the chance to turn things around."
However, the former Iron added: "Chairmen seem quick to get rid of a manager quickly and it's what put me off going into management to tell you the truth. I think a manager sometimes needs three or four years to get the thing going and unfortunately they don't get anywhere near that amount of time."
Lomas's management of Millwall has, however, vastly increased his popularity with West Ham fans, some of whom have nicknamed the formerly tenacious midfielder 'Agent Lomas' on Twitter.
