Elizabeth May is wasting no time in her new position by clamoring for an investigation of the Peace River oil spill that has been kept a secret until just recently, and demanding severe corporate consequences, something entirely unheard of these past years.

In stark contrast, the Tory's oily wet dream in Alberta has also wasted no time giving her good reason to be disgusted. Big surprise.

“We have 45-year-old pipelines lines like this one running through some of the most ecologically sensitive parts of our country, and the industry wants to build even more. It’s time to take a step back and reassess,” said Ms. May. "Accidents are too damaging to be acceptable in this industry."

As Canada’s sole Green MP, Ms. May said her first stop in Ottawa will be to appeal to the Speaker of the House to grant her recognition and a budget more in keeping with a national party leader than a lone MP. She noted that the Progressive Conservative Party, when it was reduced to just two seats, was given standing in Question Period as if it had been a recognized party in Parliament.

“The Conservative platform gave us no reason for encouragement,” she said. “There is far more detail and verbiage about how the Conservatives plan to celebrate the anniversary of the War of 1812 than there is on the climate crisis. So we know we have a significant, daunting challenge.”

“They will not be able to shut me down or shut me up."

"I will never shrink from speaking truth to power nor will I embrace the politics of spin. We need hope over fear, we need compassion over competition, we need to recognize that Canadians deserve a government where 308 MPs figure out how to work together."

When asked what 1 lone MP could possibly hope to achieve, she replies, invoking Pierre Trudeau:

"Just watch me."

Matthew Hays speaks out against the Globe's endorsement of the Conservatives, calling out the blatant dishonesty around their portrayal of Harper's supposed integrity and the stunning inaccuracy of the commonly misinformed notion that it's Harper's policies that have been maintaining a healthy (sorry, what?) economy, ignoring the internationally celebrated Liberal government, accredited with laying out that economy, that preceded him.

"This dishonesty transcends the kind of white lies that people expect of politicians; it suggests hostility toward the truth. Indeed, in some of the government’s stranger moments, the Conservatives appear to have lost touch with reality altogether, blinded by ideology while caught in their own spin cycle. Witness their response to being the first government in Canadian history to be found in contempt of Parliament. To the Tories, this was a mere difference of opinion. The Globe endorsement made no mention of that."

“Gary [Lunn] is a good friend, and I know he’s disappointed by this, but there’s a real chance that this one person could help clean up our government the way we’ve failed to do before, and we’re being called on to make a real change here,” says Smith.

“This is a step we can do right now, each of us, to make up for an electoral system that needs reform,” says Daniel Tourigny, a Saanich resident and proponent of vote swapping. “I find it ridiculous that it’s come down to deals between Canadians across the country to swap votes. It should be a signal to all parties that democratic and electoral reform has got to be a national topic of discussion, and soon.”

SO, no more underhanded treachery this year Lunn, everybody is watching this time.

Gary Lunn's 'nucks jersey did nothing to charm his way out of the critical focus of the senior students at Saanich's Mount Douglas Secondary as he was called out on his platform's complete lack of the words "climate change" anywhere at all, to which he attempted (to no avail) to assert that he is "as strong an environmentalist as anybody sitting up there." Elizabeth May remained the clear favourite as she informed the students that her party's policies are more than just about the environment and in fact address effective and efficient deficit elimination, economic growth as well as the fresh notion of "True Democracy," something very appealing to those fed up with the status quo.

May was received with cheers from young voters (and soon to be voters) at magnitudes reminiscent of '68's Trudeaumania. With May at the top of her game and Lunn looking like an inarticulate bumble, the stage is set for a Green breakthrough on May 2nd, only time will tell if she'll make history.

tl;dr - Lunn's done, May's the way.
