"Because if I don’t, I won’t know what he’s doing. That is distinctly more important than my annoyance at him."
"Why's i-it so i-imp-important?"

"Because if I don’t, I won’t know what he’s doing. That is distinctly more important than my annoyance at him."
"Why's i-it so i-imp-important?"
"More note taking and some annoyance of a particularly irksome man."
"If h-he's so i-ir-irksome, why are y-you going to b-be a-ar-around h-him?"
"I just need it for some work. If you would like to know more, you’re welcome to help, but I doubt you will. People tend to go off at this point."
"What w-wo-work?"
Spending Christmas here doesn’t sound fun.
I-it'll be a-al-alright.
He watched Parker work, mentally taking a few notes. It would be more effective, and quicker, to have this one as an ally rather than attempting to master a skill that took years. He didn’t have that kind of time. When he was handed the keys, he glanced in the direction the janitor had gone and turned, walking toward a supply closet. It didn’t long to find somethings, which he proceeded to set on the floor. “Hold a few of these,” he said, glancing back at Parker, “for a moment.”
Parker held the boxes and quirked an eyebrow, trying to peer into the box. "What is a-all th-this for a-ag-again?"
"Good. Would you like to try your method or my, slightly more direct route?"
A goofy grin slipped onto Parker's face and he shrugged once again, turning down the hallway as he started whistling a jolly little tune. He had a jaunty walk, but if you could look into his eyes you'd see focus and determination. As he came closer to the janitor bent over his cart looking for the right chemical Parker looked for the keys that he imagined were on the man's hip. Parker's right leg got caught on the cart and he fell forward, grabbing onto the janitor with a small yelp. The janitor stumbled backwards with a start as Parker was regaining his composure, shaking his head. "S-sorry, sir. You a-alright?" Parker asked, his left hand rested on the janitor's elbow. The man gave the young man a weary look and then noticed his supplies splayed across the floor, acknowledging it with an exasperated sigh. Parker was quick to jump to, "Let me h-help you with th-that." As he helped the janitor restore the cart to its former way he accidentally bumped into him a couple more times, the murmured 'sorry' in his southern lilt coming out every time. Once the cart was finished he apologized once more and smiled sheepishly before walking back and around the corner to Daniel. Parker slipped his hand into his pocket and procured the janitor's keys, waggling them in the air. "H-here ya go, but he m-might notice pretty s-soon. Looks l-like he was g-going into th-that room over y-yon-yonder."
" No no, that’s not true. What are you saying? I can’t hear you clear enough. Stop saying that! No— NO! Go away.. You’re not supposed to be here.. It’s a safe place here. No Red Queen.. Maybe a few demons but… "
Parker looked up in confusion, furrowing his brow, "I d-didn't say a-any-anything.."
"It means exactly what it sounds like. I believe you to be less of a hassle to talk to than some others."
Parker shrugged and laughed lightly, shoving his hands into his pockets. He looked around the corner to see down another hallway, "Th-there's a janitor."
Hm. Less trouble than others, but observation is still necessary. I would be careful of the delusional here.
"Less t-tr-trouble? What d-does that m-mean?"
"If it causes distress, it matters. You wouldn’t feel uncomfortable if you weren’t affect by it. Is this the reason you’re here?"
"D-drugs? Yeah, th-that's why I'm.. h-here."
That’s an understatement. She sings whenever she can. I think she’s currently having withdrawal.
W-well, if she n-needs som-someone to play an in-instrument while she s-sings, I su-surely can.
"Does discussing this cause you distress?"
"A l-lit-little, but it d-doesn't r-rea-really matter."
He nodded. “Why is it now second nature? What made learning this quasi-legal skill necessary?”
Parker shifted his weight from foot to foot, mulling the question over in his mind. "Drugs. T-to get d-drugs, you need m-mon-money and it's h-hard to get a j-job while on d-dr-drugs. So, I r-re-resorted to pick p-pock-pocketing."
You any good?
Yeah, it was just a fair warning. I know she gets really uncomfortable when people we hang out with try to talk to her. You’ve heard her sing?
I'm.. d-de-decent. It depends on the p-pie-piece.
I h-haven't heard her s-sing, but she s-sai-said she l-liked to.
"Believe me. I don’t believe I will be leaving this place any time soon. If there is one thing I have it’s time."
"It's ab-about being g-gentle and fast. And d-dis-distracting the victim. It's easier to d-do in a c-crow-crowded area, but it's n-not im-imposs-impossible to do in p-private. I d-dis-distracted you by talking and a-asking questions. Y-you're paying a-att-attention to my f-face and my words, n-not wh-what my hands are d-doing. I've a-also been p-prac-practicing for quite a wh-while, so it has k-kind of b-be-become second n-nat-nature."
Stay isolated. I have to be around someone or I start getting bored. Really? That’s cool. I tried learning once, but I was too late to sign up for the class.
I don’t know how well that’ll work out. Mickey’s… She’s very guarded when she’s by herself. She doesn’t react too well to other people.
I've g-got-gotten used to s-sol-solitude, so it d-doesn't bother m-me.And it's r-really fun. I o-only go to l-lear-learn b-because of my exes m-mom. She w-was a p-pi-piano t-teacher. It's up to h-her. If she d-doesn't like b-being alone I c-can sing with her, or p-pl-play piano wh-while she s-sings. Whatever m-makes her feel c-com-comfortable.
I don’t know how you too do it. Keeping Mickey company mostly.
W-we two do wh-what? I do.. s-some things, l-li-like play p-piano. And I c-can help k-keep her c-com-company when you c-can't. Just s-so she's n-no-not alone.
