Sketch 6

Out of the six paintings I've done, this is my favorite thus far. When originally deciding to do a painting everyday, I had the intentions of doing quick messy sketches in mind. How ever each painting has taken at least 30 minutes, this one was close to an hour. Tomorrow I'm going to aim for no more than 30 minutes.

____________ Today I did a few things differently.

1. I worked much more orderly, I chose a set palette so the colors weren't as unpredictable.

2. I worked from farthest to nearest, which I should have been doing since sketch 1, but have not.

3. I did more with the sky making the image more interesting.

4. I used white to show light areas, rather than a bright color, which I had not been doing before. 

I like how this one turned out, however there are a couple areas I need to work on.

I was in Miami over the weekend, and did not have the opportunity to sketch. I still like Sketch 3 the best out of the 4 drawings, how ever this is my second favorite. Sketch 3 had more interesting and smoother color transitions, where as this one is choppy. Because I've missed a couple days of drawing, I've decided to order my drawings by number rather than day, followed by the date at the bottom. I don't want a drawing to say "Day 7" if I've only done 4 drawings.

As for yesterday I have nothing to show, I attempted a few drawings but ended up quitting out of frustration. Today how ever I've made my favorite piece thus far. I wouldn't say it’s great, there are obvious places that need work, but I like the way the lighting is working in the center of the piece.

Today I made something I dislike more than yesterdays. I changed brushes a lot during this one, so there's an awkward unbalance between soft and hard brushes. Yesterdays colors were more pleasant and blended better. Lessons learned? be consistent I guess. Hopefully tomorrows drawing will be better.

Today I've decided to start something new. I was inspired by gbsketch. Basically every day this user makes a new sketch using Photoshop. I find myself impressed and admiring gbsketch, so I wish to start the same thing. I've cleared up and merged my Tumblr accounts together in order to make it primarily art. 

As far as this particular sketch goes, it took roughly 15 - 20 minutes. I can't say I particularly like the way it came out, but in doing this I hope to become better and make more impressive stuff. That all being said, today starts Day 1. - Oct 08, 2013
