She looked up, expression fierce when she heard the door open again. She thought it was Collin again. Her expression slightly softened when she saw that it was not. “Professor Solo, how can I help you?” She asked. She had thought that everybody had gone home already.
“You can help me by keeping your voice down.”
He stepped inside and closed the door behind him, locking it. He hadn’t thought of how that would look or seem, and he straightened up, letting the early slip of his temper fade--although it was difficult. Her expression was soft, but he wanted the truth.
All around.
He didn’t know how to broach the subject.
“You’re not leaving us.” It wasn’t a question--and he supposed it should be. “--you aren’t considering it?”
She blinked, her eyebrows furrowed as she took in his words and his actions. Professor Solo cut an intimidating figure but Rey was not afraid. She was confused about the statement though.
“I beg your pardon? Leaving?” She asked. “Why would I consider—” She cut herself. A certain horror draping over her. “You overheard?”

He didn’t think to lie, to draw it out. In retrospect, he should have, but he could only see the horror on her face. It wasn’t the anger that had been burning there before, and yet he was inclined to flush.
“Does it matter? I would have found out eventually.”
His tone was short, but he gestured for her to sit.
“I would rather you find out in my terms, sir,” she tacked that on almost like an after thought. “I rather stand.” She fought not to shift where she stood.
Sitting down made her feel vulnerable as if the whole bloody thing did not do that already. “I am with child. If you overheard, then you know that it would be fatherless. I know very well that I would not be able to hide for too long and so I was planning to passing my resignation by the end of this school term.”
Any Reylo shippers in this Galaxy? This was one of the most heart touching scenes in @starwarsmovies The rise of skywalker… I would’ve loved to see ben live…I felt his death was a little bit unnecessary. Rey with Padme’s make up <3
Part II my post-TROS comic, “Death is a Lie”, pages 9-12.
Ben is back!
I was worried that these pages had so much scenery transition in them it wouldn’t make sense. But if Rey is travelling to the underworld there are also many stories in cultures around that world that speak of different levels of heaven (and hell). Sometimes 3, sometimes 7 (both are very holy numbers in lots of places). So we can think of the transitions as Rey going through the levels of heaven, or hell, or limbo to find Ben.
Or not. Whatever. lol I like drawing forests. Also a red string.

Expecting Rey to avoid him for the time being, he didn’t attend dinner, but retired to his room to finish reading and try not to dwell on how their conversation had gone. It would only make him angry, and that would cause more problems.
After dinner and after she had put Elise to bed, she walked to Ben’s room. She knocked softly, half expecting him to be asleep. When he opened the door, she looked at him. “May we speak?”
Dinner was surprisingly a sedate affair. Elise was happy to have all of them in the table. She chatted about everything but being a young girl, she was easily tired after such a busy day. It left Rey with Ben.
It was much like when they had first been wed and Rey loathed him. He wasn’t sure of what to do with himself. “Perhaps after dinner you could show me where the library is?”
”Of course.” She said. Their library here was not as immense as Ben’s but it was cozy and Rey had many fond memories here. Which was all tainted now. ”It’s is filled my favorite books.”
“Which is your favorite?” he asked, looking through the titles on the shelf nearest to him.
”I can’t choose just one. I love all of them.” She replied. She opened her mouth. ”I want to apologize. My temper had taken the better of me. It is not your fault that Matthew did not care for me.”
Ben pursed his lips, sure what he was about to say would upset her but not wanting her to believe Matthew hadn’t cared. Even if he hated Matthew just a little bit for having had her affections so quickly and consistently. “He was an absentminded fool, but he did care for you. If he hadn’t died so quickly he would have taken better care of you.”
She huffed. ”Thank you for trying to comfort me.” She said. ”But I have accepted that if I want to be taken care of then I should do it myself. I suppose I should thank you for that as well.”
He grit his jaw. “How have I not taken care of you?” he asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
”You have. But at what cost?” She asked and sighed. ”I am forever in you debt, Ben. I’m just not sure how you want me to repay you.”

She nodded. ”Did she visit? Your mother?” She asked. She did not even think about that. ”Would you want us there when she did?”
“It was a short visit. I told her you had to take care of things here,” he said quietly. “I thought you would rather not come back for that.”
She nodded. ”What she must think of me.” She said. But then again she was nothing remarkable so his mother might not think of Rey at all. ”Are you staying the night?” She asked.
“She thinks rather highly of you, actually,” he said, finally looking at her. He had missed seeing her in his home. “"If you would have me. Otherwise I’ll find somewhere else.”
”We have room.” She said. ”Elise might not want you to leave. She cried when we left.” She said. ”I need to tell Mrs. Hooper to prepare another dinner setting.”
“She can always come back for a visit.” He thought it went without saying, but he couldn’t be sure when it came to Rey.
”I shall keep that in that mind.” She said with a slight bow. ”She will be happy to know that she is still welcomed.”
“It’s her home as much as this place is,” he said softly. “Just as it’s yours.” With a deep breath, he looked back at Elise. “If you would prefer I’ll spend the night somewhere else.”
”I have already invited you.” She said. ”I am not that horrible of host or a wife. Beside this is still all yours.” She pointed out.
“I am not taking an offer made because you are a good host,” he said. “If you genuinely want me to stay, then I’ll stay. And it is yours to do with as you want.”
She pursed her lips. So he wanted her to beg. ”It would please me if you could stay the night.” She said. ”If you do not want to then just say so.”
Ben breathed out a chuckle. “If I didn’t think it would offend you I would make one of the rooms mine,” he said. “But I know you don’t really want me here.”
She raised an eyebrow. ”I would not stop you.” She said. ”Elise wants you. I rather she grows up with a father.”
“I didn’t say you would stop me, I said it would offend you.” And she hadn’t disagreed with him. “Then I can stay, though if you were so concerned about that I would think you would have stayed.”
”I didn’t think it would affect her this much. I made a mistake on the regards.” She replied.
