Persona AU | - Steps towards the Truth - | Closed
Suzume looked down, uncomfortable and squirming in her seat. She knew it was real. But it all sounded so strange, so riduculous⌠Daken doubted her. She felt hurt at first, but she realized it was only normal. She tried to not let it get to her, but failed at it. When she looked back up, she seemed hurt. âI know it sounds unreal, I really do⌠I thought it couldnât be true either and I really, really wish it was the case.â She said in a low voice, her eyes unable to focus on the other girlâs for too long. âBut the card is still with me. I didnât have it before. Thatâs why I know itâs realâŚâ
She lit up a little when Daken agreed going to Junes with her. That should prove it! She remembered exactly which TV she came out from, so she could use it again, no problem. Wellâ she hadnât actually tried going back in. Maybe theyâd go there, sheâd touch the TV and nothing would happen but⌠it was better to give it a shot than leave things as they were. The card alone was proof that she wasnât imagining it. âThank you.â she said, smiling a little at her friend. âThank you for giving me a chance at least. I swear Iâm not lying.â She got up, considering it was best to go right away⌠besides, she wasnât hungry anymore. âIâll take you there.â
It took them a while in the bus, but they soon arrived to the gigantic chain store that had recently opened in Inaba. The shop owners in the old district especially disliked it, but it still sold things they needed⌠such as TVs. Suzume guided Daken with her to the multimedia section. Luckily enough ,there wasnât anyone there, and there was the TV she came out from. It was turned off. âThis is the oneâŚâ she said, realizing she had been holding her breath. She took a deep one, extending her hands towards it, almost expecting to just feel the cold touch of the glass.
Instead, her hand went right through it as if the glass was made out of water. It didnât feel wet. It was just⌠something you could simply cross. She froze for a moment, not actually expecting it to work, and pulled out her hand immediately afterwards. ââŚsee?â She tried to sound sure of herself, but she was startled.
As expected, her words had hurt Suzume. Daken knew it would happen, but what else could she say? She preferred to be sincere with her friend, and the truth was that she didnât believe that weird story. It was too strange and it made no sense. It was simply impossible. But if Suzume believed it was real, the best thing to do was to do as asked - they would go to Junes, nothing would happen and Suzume would realize she had dreamed all that. It would make her feel even worse, but there was no other way. Daken did smile a little when the other girl thanked her, but she felt guilty. âItâs okay, just⌠letâs get this over as soon as possible, mh? So that we can go home and⌠and you can rest. You need itâ. She kept silent as they walked out and waited for the bus, lost in her thoughts. Were they really going to check on such a stupid thing? Passing through a television screen⌠she just hoped the shop assistants wouldnât kick them out for touching stuff.Â
Daken had never really liked that enormous store. It was too big and always too crowded, the lights were too bright and everything was too colourful for her. She preferred spending time in her parentsâ convenience store, small and quiet, but there were times in which she had no choice but to go there to buy some things. In this moment she was even more uncomfortable than usual, although she wouldnât know how to explain it. Maybe Suzumeâs story had influenced her mood. âThis? It⌠it looks like a normal TV. A big oneâ, she mumbled once they stopped in front of the screen. The only thing she could think in this moment was that the television looked very expensive, so she hoped they wouldnât damage it. Suzume would simply touch it, nothing would happen. She couldnât wait to go home.Â
But the girlâs hand went through the screen, and Daken nearly gasped out loud. For a moment it almost looked like Suzumeâs hand had disappeared - but she quickly pulled it out and it was there. Good. âS-Suzume, this⌠this isnâtâŚâ. She took a shaky step back, pale and scared. ââŚp-p-possibleâ, she finished. But she had seen it with her own eyes, hadnât she? âThis must be⌠some kind of prank. Or⌠a hologram or something. I mean, you canât just⌠put your hand through a TV screenâ. Whatever it was, she didnât want to touch it. She hurried to look around, somehow hoping to find a shop assistant. That place was too empty.Â
As seconds passed, Suzume became increasingly more agitated. She had hoped for a moment that... for some reason... none of what she experienced had been real. It would have been better if she had made a fool of herself in front of Daken-- because now she was confirming that odd, terrifying experience had all been true. Her hand went towards the screen again and as soon as her fingers touched it, they crossed it again. It didnât feel like anything at all in her hand. She could feel some sort of breeze on the other side, but that was all. She was almost tempted to stick her head in-- wow, no, terrible idea.
Dakenâs words made no sense... but of course, she was trying to deny what she saw. It was only normal! Thereâs no way you could cross a TV as if it was a door. Wait. A door? Maybe it was a little like a door. It reminded her of that childrenâs book in which a girl went to another world through a looking glass. âBut... I just did it...â she replied. She grew a little braver and pushed her arm further in. There really was nothing she could grab on to if she tried to feel for something solid. Maybe, if she went through it... she would go back to the last place she was inside the TV.
âIf I came from here... maybe I can go back...â she said. After saying those words, she pulled her arm out and walked to Daken. âSee? Iâm not lying... If you need more proof, we can cross it right now. I remember there was a TV at the other side! We just have to cross it again to go back and forth.â
Feeling braver, probably because of her Persona, she walked towards the TV again and pulled her arm inside, then looked at Daken, waiting for a response.
