“I’m living in this library place in sector five,” Osomatsu rubbed his shoulder, pleased with the reaction he had gotten out of his brother despite the physical retaliation. “It’s all musty down there, Choromatsu,” he heaved a dramatic sigh, before brightening up, “Oh, but I did find some good books lying around!” He hadn’t known what Kamasutra meant - in fact, he flipped it open partially out of the idle thought of ‘hey, this looks kind of like Karamatsu’s name’ - but he hadn’t regretted it at all. He’d ended up finding a few other books of a similar nature as well, which were currently stacked in a corner of his room in case of future boredom. Or if some other holiday came up and he had to give his brothers stuff.

Osomatsu paused a bit, however, at Choromatsu’s next statement. He remembered saying something along the same lines to Todomatsu when they’d first met, but more regarding their situation than his living space. After getting over that, the only thing that really bugged him about staying where he did was the loneliness. But what if one, or even more, of his little brothers was living somewhere that was actually dangerous? If anything could happen to one of them when none of the others were around… He covered up that scary thought with another grin. “Whoa, that actually sounds almost kind of cool!” he kept his earlier resolution - to not add to Choromatsu’s likely already overflowing plate of worries - in mind as he spoke.

“Let’s go to your place, I have to see this!” Even discounting any of the above reasons, it would still be nice to figure out the exact residence of at least one of his brothers, something that he hadn’t had much luck with so far.

✦ ——– “Library place? What I would give to switch with you. At least I would have something to do.” Truthfully, though, Choromatsu wasn’t sure if he would enjoy it at all there. He had poor kanji proficiency skills, and the language barrier wasn’t anything that he was going to be bypassing anytime soon if that were to be the case. Like hell Choromatsu would let him know he probably can’t read as well as his own brother, though.>

“Cool? Ugh.” His face changed into a look of disgust upon remembering his living conditions under further detail. It was horribly eerie, and Choromatsu found it hard not to constantly check behind him wherever he walked in fear of some sort of unknown essence following him in tow. “Yeah, right. You would think that at first, but it’s different when you’re actually there.” His lips pursed in order to prove some sort of point with the other.

“Do we really have to go...? I just got out of there...” Even though he was aware that reasoning with the eldest wasn’t ever a good idea (as it would almost always end in failure), he might as well try to convince him otherwise.

【★】Folding his arms behind his head as he glanced upwards, he had to think of the best way to word this. Except, ya’ know, Leon’s not good at speaking in a kind, reserved manner at all. “Enjoy the peace while ya’ have it. If ya’ get too comfy here though, yer in for a rude awakenin’. Weird shit happens here all too often. Be glad ya’ missed what was basically the end of the world. I’ve never seen that many bodies lyin’ ‘round the streets in my life. Actually, I never seen a dead body at all. Maybe that was just one instance, considerin’ nothin’ that bad has happened since, but it’s good to keep yer eyes peeled. Considerin’ this place fun will only lead ya’ to disappointment.” Once again, we prove how the redhead cannot make things sound nice at all.

Sure, he had watched plenty of movies about it- It was a popular theme, some sort of dystopia crumbling under pressure. But to think that it was a real thing, that could actually happen... ❝...Thank you for telling me... I’ll... Be sure to stay safe.❞ He tried to smile, but it came off as if he was in pain. ❝Kuwata, right? Is it alright if I ask you if I need something in the future? As in... If I need help with my surroundings, or just knowing about this place in general.❞

“You think?” Osomatsu made a face at his brother’s assessment of the situation - much too generous for his liking. Personally, he thought Todomatsu was probably starting to forget his lesson from Sutabaa - one that they, as dear older siblings, have both the privilege and duty to reinforce upon him… but maybe that was just him. Osomatsu’s expression softened a bit as Choromatsu noticeably relaxed when he spoke. At least that was good. Maybe he’d leave it for now; he could always go convince Ichimatsu first if it was a lesson for Totty he wanted.

“Hehe, well, that’s Juushimatsu! At least he hasn’t changed a bit,” Osomatsu laughed at the recollection, not really paying much mind to the potential danger their fifth brother could’ve been in. It sounded like he had ended up alright, after all, and his own meeting with Juushimatsu had gone much better than the one with their youngest sibling. And the more normally they could all act here, the less troubling their current situation was, right?

“You won’t change either, will you?” The very slight edge of a wistful tone in the question was completely belied by Osomatsu’s sly expression, as he nudged his brother in the ribs, “You’ll stay your lame idol otaku self–” His smile turned downright devious, “–and keep on doing you-know-what while reading my dirty magazines?”

✦ ——– He was going to make a comment about his brother completely missing the point of the story, but instead he just sighed. This was Osomatsu he was thinking about. Which meant that telling him ‘not to laugh’ wasn’t going to work. Besides, it wasn’t entirely a bad thing. His big brother’s laugh made him feel at home, in a way. Like this was just some silly delivery skit- maybe soon enough, Osomatsu would turn around and say something like, “Isn’t that scary?” The realization that he was bargaining with the situation made him tense for a quick moment before relaxing once again. This is just... How it is. His brothers are here, and he’ll be fine. He’ll be fine.

“I’ll be fine.” Realizing what he had just done, he quickly retorted with himself. “Er, I won’t change, I mean. Wait- That’s what you think of me?!” He returned the nudge by punching his shoulder, a bit harder than playfully. “Come on! You’re only here to bully me!”

Choromatsu paused. He probably shouldn’t be trying to instigate in this sort of situation. So, instead of going off, he just huffs to cut the conversation short. “Where are you living, anyway?” Tilting his head to the side, Choromatsu leans forward a little bit, as if he was telling some sort of secret. “To be honest, where I live isn’t... Well, it’s almost like a horror movie!” It was true- the ghost town he was placed into didn’t help him sleep whatsoever. Maybe he could get lucky, though- Osomatsu might live in the same district. Hopefully.

【★】Okay, maybe Leon isn’t the best person to talk to about these matters. He’s grown quite bitter over his year spent here. There was a slight, melancholy smile on his face as he nodded, “Yeah, I understand. I think I’d rather have everyone I knew here too. It makes everythin’ less scary. But shit gets so harsh here, that sometimes I wonder if I wanna put ‘em through that shit, ya’ know?”

✦ ——– "...Sorry for the odd question...” And possibly personal, now that he thinks about it. “But, uh... You keep on talking about how horrible this place is. I get that it’s away from home, but... There’s not much more than that, is there?” Choromatsu smiled weakly, hoping that he was right. To hear that there was something dark- sinister about this place... He really didn’t want it to be true. He already had enough on his plate.

✦ ——– He started to mess with his hands, a nervous habit that he hasn’t learned to overcome. “Oh.” Choromatsu almost smiled, before looking back down to his hands. “I... I get that they’d all probably be better off at home, but...” His hands slowly froze, his mind analyzing things further. “Well, even if it’s selfish of me, I’d rather that they were here, I think.” Was that selfish of him? He couldn’t tell.

“…Right?” Osomatsu’s response came out weaker than he expected, and he swallowed hastily, clearing his throat. Hearing his brother voice the thoughts he’d been trying to keep at bay out loud did make him feel a bit better, gave him a sense that they were in this together; at the same time, though, it made the worry and longing all the more real, all the more terrifying. He tightened his grip on Choromatsu’s shoulders involuntarily, the gesture now more seeking direction - comfort? - than giving it.

Except… no. Still ducked behind Choromatsu’s field of vision, the eldest Matsuno shook his head to himself. He was the older of the two, the oldest, and he couldn’t be the downer in this kind of situation. Things like responsibility and maturity he could leave to Choromatsu, but he shouldn’t be adding to anyone’s fear when they were stuck here, much less one of his little brothers’.

He let go of his brother’s shoulders with a sense of resolution, circling around to face him and crossing his arms in a dramatically indignant fashion. “But yeah, listen to this!” He cleared his throat again, this time much more for show. “So Todomatsu was the first person I met in this city, right?” Well, not the first person so much as first brother. The first person he met that would likely matter in this conversation, anyway.

“When I of course asked him if he’d seen anyone else around, he said no! We had this entire conversation, and the whole time I thought I was the first person he met in here too. And then it turned out he’d already seen Juushimatsu, but he just- he just decided he wouldn’t say! Choromatsu, he totally lied to me!!” Osomatsu ended the tirade with a huff. True, he was playing up the whining a bit in an effort to take both their minds off heavier things, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t actually really annoyed about it nonetheless.

✦ ——– Choromatsu briefly felt his brother’s grip tighten, and was about to ask about it before the feeling fleeted from his shoulders. He decided not to ask- he was probably just about to trip, or something. He didn’t really mind it, either. For some reason, physical reassurance that his oldest brother was here and not just a dream this time was comforting. He was caught in thought over this, but he was quickly pulled out of it by his brother entering his vision again.

“Huh? There doesn’t really seem like a reason for doing that...” Choromatsu mulled over it for a couple of seconds. “Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Todomatsu wishes he was alone here. He might think we’ll ruin his chances at having a girlfriend, or something.” Thinking over it again, he laughed to himself. “That wouldn’t be out of character, but... I don’t think that’s it. Maybe he didn’t want you to worry about finding Juushimatsu?” Choromatsu really didn’t want to think their sibling rivalry would get in the way of finding each other. They were closer than that, right?

As much as he sometimes hated-- despised his brothers, Choromatsu liked to believe that their familial bonds were tighter than others’. And, in a way, maybe it was true. Even through all of the fights they got into with each other, by the next day, they were friends again. Well, not friends, family. Family. The word made the tension in his shoulders relax a little bit. He would never admit any of that, of course. Not if he was forced at gunpoint.

Quickly trying to move on the conversation, Choromatsu thought back. “When I met Juushimatsu, he was at the top of a Christmas tree.” Thinking about it made shivers send up his spine-- at the time, it seemed like a life or death situation. Although, reflecting on it now... It was just like a punchline to some joke. Choromatsu sighed at this, “He got so excited from seeing me, he started swinging from side to side on it. He almost fell off. I thought he was a goner.” He laughs, but it’s strained from the slight fear he still feels from it.

【★】”Oi, ya’ cant have that kinda attitude while yer here. Some of these people have been torn away from their families for years. Damn, I’ve been here for nearly a year now. ‘m sure after awhile without ‘em, yer gonna realize ya’ need ‘em.” Not that it was really relevant to the allstar himself. He didn’t really have any family, but damn would he love to be home over this place.

✦ ——– Choromatsu had to avert his eyes for a moment, thinking it over. He had always just... assumed that one way or another, his brothers would be there for him. To think that one of them might just not come back one day... It was scary. But at the same time, realistic. “...Huh.” Swallowing, he looks towards the other again, “...Sorry. I guess I... I haven’t really thought about it in that way.”

“If you say so, handsome,” Osomatsu couldn’t resist getting one last jab in, a merry grin on his face once more as he pushed on Choromatsu’s shoulders, steering him down the street from where they’d stopped and parted the crowd just now. Already, two pretty loud, nearly identical people conversing in the middle of the street were attracting curious looks. Sheesh, and it wasn’t even all six of them yet. He didn’t know where Choromatsu had been trying to get to, but he figured his brother would speak up if he was pushing in the wrong direction or something.

Meanwhile, he continued talking. “And of course I missed you, Choromatsu! Like I said, a full week? As if I’d be so cold as to not give you my best greeting after such a long time! I’m not Todomatsu, you know?” He had yet to get any manner of revenge on his youngest sibling for the lie… not for lack of trying, mind. It was just a lot easier to avoid a brother in this huge city than back home.

“Oh, that reminds me! He and Juushimatsu are both around, and Karamatsu too, though I haven’t seen him yet,” he rattled off, “So we’re pretty close to all getting together! No word on Totoko-chan or Chibita or the others though.” Sure, he’d be content enough with just having his brothers here, but Osomatsu did vaguely wonder whether the people back home would think of them disappearing. Would Totoko-chan be worried?

✦ ——– Choromatsu was about to groan before he felt hands on his shoulders, pushing him along. He hadn’t really noticed that they were making a part in the crowd until now, so he started sprouting out “I’m sorry”s to the citizens around him (although a bit late). He was still listening to his brother, though. “Not Todomatsu..? Did something happen? ...Er, I missed you, too.” It was embarrassing to admit that to an older brother, but it was the truth. And Choromatsu had to be more mature than to falsely say ‘I didn’t miss you at all’.

“Yeah, I’ve seen Juushimatsu.” He shivers a bit at the thought of that occurrence before continuing, “Although, I haven’t met the rest. I’m glad they’re safe, though.” In all honesty, Choromatsu had been worrying about safety above all else. For the few days that he was here alone, the only thing he could think about was if his brothers were alright, wherever they were. Was he the only one gone? If that was true, would they even miss him at all..? He wasn’t Karamatsu, right? No, wait, that was mean. ...In any case, those thoughts kept him awake at night.

It was certainly nice to hear his older brother comfort him, although not intentionally. “I would like to have the rest of us here, too. Er, everybody, I mean. Not just our brothers.” He was specifically talking about Totoko-chan, and although he didn’t say it, he wouldn’t be surprised if the other picked up on it. “This is a... big and weird place with a lot of weird people. Some familiarity would help a lot.” He wasn’t really paying attention to where he was going anymore, focusing rather on conversation.

A card was attached to an iTunes gift card with 50 dollars on it.

The back of it read:

Merry Christmas! I heard through the grapevine (your brothers) that you’re a bit of a weeb. So, I’m thinking you either already play, and if you don’t, you’re gonna start playing Love Live, so that money can go towards some love gems ;0 Do it for your waifus.

✦ ——– “Oh, geez…” He couldn’t help but smile as he flipped the card around multiple times, still taking it in. He would have never been able to get anything like this himself, even if he asked his mom for it. He would definitely have to thank the guy later. Kuwata was… A bit too nice. But for now.

Why would his brothers tell him something like that..?! The first time he makes some sort of actual friend and they ruin it! They shouldn’t just tell everybody that he was an otaku..! That should turn people off immediately. Choromatsu was lucky that he didn’t seem to mind. In any case…

“There’s still six days left for the Nico event. I’ll get that idolized SR for sure..!”

He should… probably send a gift back though, right? Oh, God. Choromatsu didn’t have anything he could spend, or just re-gift. A card would have to do.

Choromatsu-niisan was always like that wasn’t he? Shouting loudly and all that. Usually Juushimatsu didn’t listen even half of it, really. That’s just how it was, his focus wouldn’t allow him even that much. Even now the order of not shaking the tree passed his ears completely but at least the rest sank in.

“ Okeydokey!! No worries niisan!! “

It started well. Juushimatsu progressed, step by step he slowly slid down… Ideally it’d have lasted all way to the ground.

But of course not. Juushimatsu’s patience ran out fast. He hadn’t seen Choromatsu in whole … two weeks? That sure was a long time! That thought might have been what made his fingers slip just a little.

The rest went fast. With nothing but the branches to slow his fall down Juushimatsu plummeted letting out most different noises ranging from excitement to slightly pained yelps that didn’t really stop until the ground. They’d echo up from the nearby building walls in the surprisingly quiet surroundings.

From the last branch he bounced to the ground, luckily getting somewhat soft landing. Scratched with needles and a little bruised but the smile wouldn’t drop. The third brother was here now too so just one more to go!!

Juushimatsu spun to his stomach now facing Choromatsu.

“ That sure was fun!! Do you wanna try niisan??”
