Thinking of everything I have to think about
âGar!â you screamed, rushing up to him. He had blood all over him, his beautiful face now marred by bruises and cuts. You wanted to wrap him up in a tight hug, but thought better of it when you saw his limp as he came towards you. You still hugged him gently, as though feeling him in your arms warm and alive would quiet your worries.Â
âOh, Gar...â. You could feel tears burning from behind your eyes, clawing to get out. You bit them back though. This was not the time to cry.Â
âIâm ok, y/n. Iâm still in one pieceâ Gar said light heartedly. Yes maybe he was in one piece, but he was hurt and you had no idea how badly or how he was hurt. His limp as he climbed into the car with everyone else as Dick took you all on an adventure was making you shatter on the inside.
âSo youâre telling me you died twice in one day?â you asked, your anger and confusion clearly visible.
âWell yeahâ Gar shrugged.
"And you were brought back by Rachelâs demon father?âÂ
âMhmâ. Gar was trying not to worry you by taking things as though it wasnât a big deal. You appreciated his efforts but they didnât stop you from blaming yourself. You couldâve helped him, but stupidly, you left that day. And it was only to lay flowers on your parentsâ graves one last time. When Dick had called you, you were at least an hour away, and by the time you got through the traffic on a bus, you were too late and couldnât help Gar. Everything was over, leaving Gar injured and everyone else with heavy guilt for what they had done to him even though it wasnât their fault.
âI can tell that youâre madâ Gar said. He seemed to be the only one who could see through you and tell what you were really thinking of feeling. Maybe it was because you two were best friends... well you two were more than that now but the rest of the team didnât know that.
âYes Iâm mad, you canât expect me to just be fine after telling me you died twice in one day and I wasnât there to save youâ you said in a rushed whisper, trying to keep your voice down but how were you supposed to just remain calm after your boyfriend had just gone through all that?Â
âI know youâre upset but like I said, Iâm ok. Stop blaming yourself, it wasnât your faultâ Gar reassured you. You went to lace your fingers with his, but suddenly became aware that other people were in the car, so you just put your arm around him. He was still so impossibly warm. You hadnât told anyone that you were dating, yet. Things had just been so busy. You were thinking of telling everyone once we got to Dickâs mystery destination but you needed to get Garâs opinion first. You tended to rush into things before you could see what could go wrong.
âGarâ you whispered to get his attention.
âYeah, y/n?â he responded.
âIâm thinking we should tell them about us when we get to wherever Dickâs going to take usâ you said, unsure of how he would react.
âI donât see why we shouldnât, theyâre going to work it out sooner or laterâ he said with a shrug. Gar was right, you two had looked close before because you were best friends, but now you two were visibly closer; and there was a new twinkle in your eyes when the other was smiling. You were also sure Rachel had seen you sneaking into Garâs room in the middle of the night at least once out of the three times youâd snuck in. If she had seen you and realised it was you, she didnât say anything.
âWhat is this place?â asked Rachel as you all walked out of the elevator. The place appeared to be in very good condition, but left. The furniture was covered in sheets and dust hovered in the air.
âHomeâ Dick announced with pride.
Later that evening, after cleaning up and settling in a little, you and Gar had managed to take a break and go out onto the roof.
âIâm counting down the minutes until weâll either be celebrating or being murdered by Dickâ Gar said jokingly. This brought a smile to your lips, warming Garâs heart.
âIâm serious though, I have a feeling things wonât go super well...â He said, trailing off.Â
âWhatever happens, Iâll still love youâ you said with all your heart.
You shut me up, look at the clouds
âI know but-â You cut him off by pressing your lips to his, in a deep kiss. Another storm began to brew, thunder rumbling loudly. Storms and lightning seemed to be your sign that everything was going to be ok.
âCause lightning struck
Everyone was now sitting at the table quietly, not really knowing what to say. You took the opportunity and broke the silence.
âSo uhm, Dick, I, uh, we, have something to tell youâ you said awkwardly.
âWe?â Dick asked, his brows furrowing.
ây/n and Iâ Gar piped in. Dick nodded slowly but unsure of how to interpret the situation.
âGo on thenâ he said.
âWell, uh, thereâs no easy way to say this but uhm... weâre datingâ you said, looking at Gar.
âI knew itâ said Rachel. Her tone was neither shocked nor triumphant, it just seemed as though she was announcing a new finding. Jason whistled, and muttered something inaudible, probably about how you had a weird taste in boys or something childish like that.Â
Dickâs jaw didnât literally drop to the floor but you could see that he was having that reaction on the inside.
âNoâ was all Dick said before getting up and leaving the room.
Dating? no, no, no. Dick thought as he rung Kory.
âHey! where did you guys end up going?â Kory chirped brightly.
âSan Franciscoâ Dick said flatly.
âWhatâs up? Did something go wrong?â she asked, her expression shifting to concern.
âYes, very wrongâ Dick replied.
âoh no... what happened?â Kory asked with curiosity.
ây/n and Gar are datingâ Dick stated flatly.
âOh yes theyâd be such a cute couple!â Kory exclaimed. Dick could do nothing but blink in shock to her reaction.
Something this town will forever talk about
âYou support this?â He asked, bewildered.
âYes, of course I do. If they make each other happy, Iâm not going to stand in the wayâ Kory explained.
The two kids who were laying down
âAnd werenât you the one who dated Dawn?â Kory asked with an accusatory tone.
âYeah, and look how that turned outâ said Dick, thinking his point had been proven.
âWell it canât have been that bad because you and I were a thing for a whileâ said Kory. Dick was speechless. She was right, he couldnât say anything to y/n and Gar because he had done the very same thing, twice.
âYou have a pointâ Dick said in defeat.
And struck by lightning in front of your house
You had left as soon as Dick was out of sight, Gar following not long after to comfort you. Now, as you sat on the end of your bed with Gar holding you close in his arms, you struggled to hold in tears of anger. You could only imagine how your sweet, sensitive and kind, Gar was feeling. You pulled out of his embrace to lace your fingers with his.
âIâm sorryâ you said, trying not to cry. What did Dick mean by ânoâ? Deep down you knew what he meant, but you didnât want to believe it yet.
âSorry for what? You didnât do anything wrong, babyâ Gar said as he leaned his head on your shoulder. Baby. That had become your favourite pet name and you two had gotten pretty used to addressing each other by it in such a short time. You wondered how many more times you would get to use it. You gave him a small smile of appreciation.
âI wonder what Jason and Rachel think of us nowâ Gar said light heartedly, trying to shift your focus from analysing what Dick had said.
The kids out on the playgroundsÂ
âJason probably thinks weâre crazy. Rachel knewâ you smirked half heartedly.
Years from now will say âdid you ever hear about
âCrazy is extreme but at this point, I think itâs the right way to describe itâ Gar chuckled. He gave you the softest of kisses. It made you want to melt, undoubtedly he was upset but he knew you were too and he was trying to make you smile. You decided to try to get past this. It wasnât the end of the world, you and Gar would find a way around it.
The two kids who were laying down
âI love you too, babyâ he said. You kissed him once more, not just a quick peck this time, but a deep kiss.Â
And struck by lightning in front of your houseâ
You opened your door to find that it was Dick who had knocked. For once you couldnât meet his gaze, too angry and ashamed to look into his eyes.
Mmh, maybe on a sunny day
âI wanted to say that Iâm sorryâ Dick said without missing a beat. You looked up in shock and Garâs head perked up.
You might have something to say
âLike someone said to me, if you two make each other happy, I shouldnât stand in the way. I was just worried that you two would lose sight of our aim hereâ Dick explained.
But if you donât, thatâs ok
âI- No- We wouldnât lose focusâ you responded.
âAll we need is each other, thatâs allâ Gar piped in.
âRight. I knowâ Dick said with a small smile before turning around and leaving you two alone. You almost jumped into Garâs arms with happiness.
âI told you it would all work outâ Gar laughed.
âShut upâ you giggled before kissing so that he couldnât say anything else.
ây/n, I love youâ said Gar, his arms around your waist, pulling you into him.
âI love you too Gar, more than anything else in this worldâ you said. He kissed you, the moment could not have been more perfect. Your unwavering love for Gar seeming to grow, the feeling of his impossible warmth against you, and the thunder and lightning booming outside your window making you feel like you were the luckiest person on the face of this Earth.
