CARON Strengthens Community Relationships
A graduate of the Menlo School of Business Administration and Golden Gate University, Gregory āGregā Munks was elected sheriff of San Mateo County in 2006. In this role, he was charged with overseeing law enforcement for five cities, as well as the supervision of 750 employees and a $240 million budget. Sheriff Greg Munks was actively involved in initiatives such as the Community Alliance to Rebuild our Neighborhood project. The Community Alliance to Rebuild our Neighborhood project (CARON) was founded on the premise that law enforcement is more effective when it has the support and trust of community members. CARON aims to implement strategies to improve the health and quality of life for residents through crime reduction and improved relationships with law enforcement officers. To create a culture of communication and collaboration, CARON hosts weekly dialogues that invite residents to meet and share their concerns. Additionally, CARON offers seminars to educate residents on key safety issues such as recognizing signs of gang activity and drug use. For parents in the community, facilitator-led workshops teach parenting skills and help parents learn how to develop healthy habits for themselves and their children.
