okay I watched it. My statement still holds up, she'd make a great Ettie, but the movie itself was just ok? All of the black comedy bits seem extraneous to me, it feels like the movie is self-conscious of how messed up it is so needs to inject humor to counter that almost... And I'd like to see the 'lore' of the One Wish Willow explored more, even as I realize that's not the point of the movie

is it cosmic horror or did you just add tentacles to a monster. be honest.

It's more than that, but let's talk about WHY tentacles are added in the first place

The tentacle is a non-anthropic, non-mammalian grasping, tasting appendage. It belongs to creatures hailing from an almost totally alien domain of life compared with what your average horror protagonist would encounter 'naturally'

Wampus cats, skeletons, werewolves and reanimated corpses, all of those are monsters that require either wilderness or society to exist so that they can be warped mirrors thereof

But a tentacle is something else entirely, not a mirror but a window into a different, parallel kind of life (or is it even life, if What Is Dead May Never Die?)

It's symbolic of eldritch, cosmic horror for a very good reason, and while it definitely peeves me when it's tacked on without much thought, I can't be too too mad about it

There's also something to be said about comparing deep space to the open ocean and how this facilitates further aquatic metaphors for cosmic beings, I suppose
