Why do y’all want Lagertha to die so bad? She is still my favorite character. Honestly we hardly get characters like her on tv and I recently joined the Vikings fandom on tumblr and I was so surprises that she gets so much hate and for what? For Ivar? You can love both characters and quite frankly he’s the villain specially after s5 literally all of his brothers want to kill him. But she is good representation for women and you would rather she all the hot male cast, I don’t mean just you
Because you’re new to the fandom, and probably to my blog, you have no idea how much of an issue I’ve had with the representation of women on Vikings. It’s not right to put words in my mouth because I’m done with Lagertha.
Lagertha is a good character. I’ve loved her even more than Aslaug but my avatar is there for a purpose. To Hirst, the only good woman is a shieldmaiden. So I have Aslaug there for my love of all the women who weren’t.
However, I’ve written for Lagertha [ F x F ] and have no issue with her. However, she’s at the end of her life. Hirst has been leading us with Lagertha the same way that he led us with Ragnar. He’s riding her dry. It’s time for her to go– but not just for her sake, but for the sake of the remaining women on Vikings. I want to see them through.
After the ending of 5B, the only strong women we are left with (other than Aelswith) are the ones that join in Lagertha’s legacy, and are shieldmaidens, which you have to be to survive:
Gunnhild, wife of Bjorn, shieldmaiden.
Torvi, mother of Bjorn’s children and in my belief, Lagertha’s successor.
Amma, shieldmaiden allied with Bjorn.
It’s not a celebration of death for me, but a transition into a new reality for the women on Vikings in the last season. All of Vikings does not amount to Lagertha alone for women. Hirst has held onto Lagertha as the only female lead for so long while killing other potential women off like… say, Angrboda. I love Lagertha, more so as a representation of an older matriarch, but its time to put her to rest and in the last season, see the other women through.
