Erlendur: Are you angry at me?
Torvi: Yes.
Erlendur: Can I ask why?
Torvi: No.
I honestly believe that the only reason Erlendur was cruel to Torvi was so that the audience wouldn’t find him sympathetic. Because he should be. He has every reason to hate Ragnar and Lagertha. They murdered his entire family, he has every right to want to avenge them. But the narrative portrays him as a villain, ignores how harrowing the scene of his defenseless siblings slaughtered bodies was. Because Ragnar and Lagertha are the heroes of the story, and their horrific actions are never allowed to be portrayed as horrific or even wrong. And anyone who disagrees with them or wants revenge for being wronged by them is a villain.
