WHY THE RELATIONSHIPS IN BNHA MAKE MY HEART SWELL
here we see an understandably tense Deku. I mean, a little girl’s life is an incredibly heavy burden to be placed on a 16-year-old student. he feels an irrational responsibility for her safety, and it’s eating away at him… so much so that he himself can’t eat.
which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Iida and Todoroki. partly bc he’s sworn to stfu, Deku attempts to quell any suspicions they might have.
these two are having none of your self-sacrificial bullshit today. did u really think u could fool them?
now, THIS.
boys in anime tend to work through their problems in a hellishly roundabout way. heart-to-hearts surely aren’t the norm. yet, more often than not, this show has encouraged its characters to communicate. I really admire the way Iida didn’t drop the issue. instead, without prying, he offers his support in a meaningful way.
and then, to no one’s surprise, the waterworks begin.
I think Deku has finally had enough of being a crybaby, an unhealthy notion instilled in him by All Might. while it’s one thing to wear a brave face for the public, a 24/7 facade isn’t realistic.
that’s why it’s so soooo important to me to see the “a hero must always smile” motto challenged here. honestly, this is the part of the scene that shook me to my core. Todoroki’s emotional maturity, in my opinion, is off the charts compared to most of his classmates.

anyway, the openness of BNHA’s relationships has always left me pleasantly satisfied. I’ve only gone through one scene here, but there are many more I could talk abt.
the scene where Iida apologizes to Deku for punching him.
the scene where Asui pulls all the boys aside to vent her guilt.
the scene where Todoroki navigates Yoarashi’s hatred for him.
