features are kept motionless, heart keep to it's normal, slow phase. yet the words strike. she fought for something bigger, something else . . . but did she really have someone ? shielded herself, never let anyone close because it was the safest. the few she cared about, all but hidden away where nobody could reach them. where nobody could form a connection to her. keep herself protected, in such a bloody mask. it doesn't even drip anymore, it pours off of her. yet she would do it all again, for the two innocent beings on that boat. gaze slowly lift to him, corner of lips barely quirk upwards.     ❝   and what would you know about that, hmm ?   ❞

She's got a perfect picture painted, and he knows it. He's been around too many people that do the same not to notice it, and if he weren't too lazy, he'd prod at her. Poke the bear. Turn on the shock collar. “ Are you fuckin' dumb or something? What do you mean what would I know about that? ” An eyebrow quirks up, icy blues squint as he stares across at her. They're similar, even if he doesn't want to admit it and she doesn't want to either — The Hind and The Greywaren. Keep people at a distance to protect them from something you were born with, put up a frigid exterior. Keep them uninvolved. “ You're not the only one who has appearances to maintain. ”

Once Ronan figures out how to dream properly, he just pulls the same pair of Doc Marten combat boots from his dreams every time he feels like he wants a new pair, worn out exactly how he wants them.

it's easy to find him, own legs moving subconsciously towards the long barn before he can even think of looking for him somewhere else. the sound of the car entering should've been loud enough for him to notice his arrival, unless ronan was dreaming. lately, there was only one place where dreaming took place. adam leans against the doorway, stares at him in silence for a moment. once he starts feeling creepy about it, he finally speaks up.

it seems that neither of them can figure out the new dream forest, no matter how hard they're trying. despite still sensing the ley line, adam can't help but feel like he's missing guidance. understanding the frustration and feeling uneasy about it coming from ronan's mouth, one of adam's hands reach out and come to rest on the back of his neck, hoping to ease some of the tension. “  we'll figure it out. ” the self-appointed deadline feels eternal and terrifyingly ephemeral all at once, summer afternoons stretching like honey and slipping through his fingers all the same.

there's a lot that they seem to be avoiding, difficult conversations that will come back and haunt them eventually. adam doesn't want to bring it up now, when it's clearly making lynch feel upset. a small nod comes as a peace offering, alongside a smile. “  same as always. boyd seems to think there's still hope for the shitbox. ” at least it gave him something to look forward to, even if it felt as futile as dreaming up a new cabeswater. “  opal? ”

And like that, a large part of the stress and tension Ronan felt drained away as soon as Adam touches his neck. A reminder that, despite knowing he would soon be leaving, he's here now, in the barns, with him. “ I told her to dig up every can she's buried over by the porch, and then bury them again. ” He wanted alone time, and digging would keep his dream creature occupied — however, he's happy to give up that desire to spend time with Adam.

Ronan reaches up to rest his hand against Adam's arm, letting out a soft sigh. “ I'm really glad you're here. ” He turns his head and looks up, smile softening at the sight of that stunning blue gaze. Sometimes, he wonders if all this is a dream — if it were, it should have gone wrong by now, and he would have come back with a thousand mouse - sized elephants without tails or something like it. Maybe it was just hard to believe that something was going right in his life, for once. Even if it was just for the summer.

Finally, he stands up, turning completely to face Adam. “ I could just dream you a new shitbox, Parrish. ” The answer will be no, but he offers regardless. He was so proud of that car, that all the work was done by him. He could dream up a new car with all the little quirks put in, but Adam could tell the difference. He knew he would be able to. Then again, if he just dreamed a miracle cure, they wouldn't be able to spend so much time together working on it. “ Let's go eat something. ” Ronan says, reaching for Parrish's hand. “ I'm fucking famished, and I'm pretty sure I've got some leftover pizza. ” Did he dream it? Maybe. “ Fuck, I don't know. Do you even want to eat? ”

There was something oddly comforting about Noah's presence, considering he was a ghost and all. Despite this, Ronan liked to be around him — he felt comfortable sitting there, felt comfortable dreaming near him. He laid in his bed on his back, hands linked and resting over his chest. He can hear Noah shuffling around, but he's not too concerned. A ghost can't steal shit, he thinks, turning to look at him.

“ No one would recognize you period. You're kind of dead, asswipe. ” Despite the name - calling, Ronan is smiling. “ You look pretty sick, though. Those are my favorite sunglasses. ” He stands up, walking over to his ghostly friend to observe the gold - rimmed blackened lenses against his pale cheeks. “ Would people just see a floating pair of glasses, do you think? You could really fuckin' scare someone that way. It would be awesome. ”

Being a dreamer came with all sorts of caveats — dealing with things a normal person wouldn’t have to deal with, seeing things a normal person wouldn’t have to see. He did get to meet all sorts of people, but Ronan wasn’t a people person. Folks called him abrasive, vicious, and all sorts of other derogatory things that went in one ear and out the other.

He still didn’t quite understand what Raven had been doing in Henrietta, but he did know there was some link between their magic. Something morbid, unknown. He got the feeling she knew more about it than he, but he didn’t particularly care to ask. He didn’t know her, and didn’t trust her.

“ And you have been most creepy. ” May they never meet again — but he has a feeling that’s just wishful thinking. “ Don’t really know or care what you think is going on here, but we’ve got it under control. And, I’ve already got a bunch of psychics. I can do without your mystic bullshit. ”

He was used to that rich kid aura and rich kid wardrobe completed with impeccable hair because of Gansey — never mind that he could be counted in with the rich kids too, if he only looked the part. He supposed he should be glad James had no qualms about hanging out with a leather - clad, bald giant whose most frequently used words made most mothers cover their children's ears — all his friends were off in different parts of the country. Siblings included.

“ Christ, dude, you're gonna wear a path into the fuckin' floor. ” Ronan watches him, eyebrow raised with his arms over his chest. This play shit — he always thought James got a little too into it. Maybe it was an actor thing, and he didn't think he could ever be an actor.

“ Thank fuck. A reasonable request for once. ” Ronan stands up, head cocked slightly as he settles his hands in his pockets. “ Come on, dipshit. I'll buy. I could use one myself. How about we find a place that will make us the strongest drink in the whole damn town? That should help you get over this play shit or whatever's bothering you. Did you not get the role you wanted or whatever? That teacher is fucking stupid for not casting you, or whatever the hell it is. ”

It was no secret to him that his dream creatures could be seen as terrifying — things ranging from the smallest of pixies to shadowy figures that towered over the largest of castles, some beloved and some terrifying with no known origin. He was the origin, of course. Not like he’s going to go around and broadcast that, though. No, he likes having his head on his body.

He could sense one of the creatures near him, a furry thing that was slightly shorter than the trees who mimicked the chirping birds that flew away from it. Ronan was content to sit and wait for it to approach him, likely craving attention from its maker. It never came, though, and he listened until the whistling completely muted itself. It must have been off doing something else.

There was a girl, however, that didn’t disappear into the forest. He wondered if she was hiding from his creature, or if she stood and watched it, as he did. “ You saw it too, huh? Nasty fuckin’ thing. ” Ronan stands up, hands on his hips.

There are, he thinks, but doesn’t say anything. He’s not arousing more suspicion than he needs to! “ I think we’d be able to tell. Not like that ugly thing cared for hiding. Or being discreet. ” His lips pursed together, almost amused. “ Did you get close to it? What did it look like? ”
