The Treasury of the Athenians, Delphi - Greece

The Treasury of the Athenians is the best preserved monument of the Apollonian Sanctuary in Delphi. The small temple-like structure is of Doric order, with two columns between the facade pilasters. The frieze depicts the exploits of two celebrated heroes, Hercules and of Theseus.

The treasury contained trophies from important Athenian victories and other votive objects dedicated to the sanctuary. In the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD it was used as the Delphi pawnbroker’s office, according to epigraphical sources.
