I love the thought of Grace and Rocky slowly figuring out what's an 'alien' thing and what's a 'them' thing. It's mentioned a couple times in the book and it's so fun, because these are two people who have been pushed to their absolute limit both physically and mentally, in unbelievably horrific situations, and they are. the only living example of their respective species. for several years in Rocky's case and probably decades if not forever in Grace's.

Like, Grace thinking that all Eridians are very physically busy because of their brain structure driving them to engage with multiple different lines of thought or even conversation at once only to find out when they get to Erid that Rocky is just the most tightly wound ball of nerves anyone has ever met and if he doesn't have something to do with his hands he gets anxious.

Rocky thinking it's very normal for humans to have large gaps in their memory and/or occasionally dissociate for several minutes at a time and come back crying, then hearing the nannybot mention 'potential amnestic side effects' one day and falling down a WebMd rabbit hole that ends with a very high pitched scolding.

Grace finding out that for all his badgering, Rocky actually sleeps and eats as little as physically possible for a functional Eridian, a habit he picked up out of mingled fear and practicality as the only remaining crew aboard in case of emergency.

Both of them getting much better at reading each other and much worse at lying once they've established what's a normal quirk for the species and what's an alarming stress response. Nobody likes this. Interspecies trauma exchange. So many stones are thrown in this glass biodome.

i have been seeing a lot of fanart related with the penguins and the nuke of antarctica, and i just cant stop thinking about grace, leclerc and ilyukhina (bc ofc it's them) trying to save a few penguins by smuggling them into the vat and when stratt finds them it is like that icarly meme

"whatcha got there?"

"twizzlers" and a bunch of penguins fall out from a big curtain covering them up

ilyukhina and leclerc ran away because they are more terrified of stratt, and they think worst thing it could happen to grace is in bed, so everybody wins

While I absolutely adore the Project Hail Mary movie, there is one shot that I wish had been in the movie. I can see it so vividly, I sometimes forget its not there.

But imagine this: what if the moment where Grace (or the audience) is flashing back to when his unconscious body was carried to the ship was extended.

We see the ship launch, and we see Stratt standing looking at it from a distance - her hair blowing in the wind. Then she turns away as men drive up in black cars, and the last we see of her (other than the scene 30 years later where she watches Grace's recordings) is someone cuffing her hands behind her back.

The fact that Grace is canonically being kept in a huge terrarium at the end of the movie will never fail to amuse me.

Questions like "Have you fed the human yet?" probably frequently get asked and answered with "Ugh i was GOING to!"

(At first it was probably a whole team of high ranking Eridian scientists taking care of it, but soon it became a volunteering thing, like helping out at the soup kitchen or something. School classes sign up for taking care of Grace for a week or two in order to teach the kids responsibility)

And not just that, someone also needs to add enrichment for him and make sure that it's not too repetitive.

Someone needs to keep him company and hang out with him and it can't ALWAYS be the same person because Rocky and Grace both need to be around others too from time to time.

Grace is a high maintanance pet. And he's happy with this arrangement.

This isn't an original thought because many have said this before me, but it's one that cannot be stated often enough.

("Grace isn't Rocky's pet, he's his equal!!" TWO THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT THE SAME TIME, LET ME HAVE THIS!)

Oh he's hearing voices. He went mad. Okay. "We are trying to communicate". whatever.

Still going through the recordings, science, science, astrophage, science, I named it Rocky okay, science... he cope by inventing a friend I guess, he still look lucid enough for the mission so, we are still good, aren't we...

And then the alien actually shows up on screen "Hi, I'm Rocky, Rocky from Erid, I am not Rocky from movie no no no"

Her, alongside any person watching this, would be FLOORED XD

You’ve heard of “you don’t even have a dog” and now for the Marissa fans out there might I suggest people saying to her post-launch:

“You weren’t even together.”

Marissa being legitimately heartbroken and everyone seeing her grieving and unless they happen to know both her and Ryland the FIRST thing they ask is almost always “Were the two of you an item?”

And when she says no then it becomes “did you want to be?” “did you see him as a brother instead?”

Marissa feeling hurt and frustrated because isn’t it enough that they were friends? Is twenty years of late night conversations, inside jokes, tears, laughter, Thursday dinners like clockwork—is that not enough to say she loved him, plain and simple? Is she not allowed to grieve this way, like a piece of her was torn out without anyone even telling her?

But star-crossed love isn’t for friends, they say. It just doesn’t make a good story.
