thank you steven spielberg for creating a male and female protagonist who are the only two people of their kind on earth, who understand each other better than anyone else, "whatever you do, don't let go', who are literally DESTINED to meet each other and are literally spelled out to be goddamn soulmates and narrative foils

Thinking about that scene in Girls where Hannah’s mom tells her that she doesn’t want her daughter spending her life making the world a friendlier place for a man, that it’s hard to be married to an odd man with no social skills or life of his own and I know so many women, my mother included, who do that. Who spend their lives apologizing when he leaves the room or sitting in uncomfortable silences, I know so many women who go “well he’s just shy” as if he isn’t taking up all her space. As if he’s not perfectly comfortable being weird and rude because he knows she’ll protect him from the consequences
