Flying Under the Radar
I’m still alive. Things have been a little... odd, lately with this deployment. Have practically no time for anything.
Still trying to decide when to step back into modding TF2. And the more I look at it, the more it seems pointless. The reason for that is that more and more servers are moving to sv_pure 2 or a combination of sv_pure 1 and have their whitelist set to only allow stuff like a HUD while blacklisting everything else under the sun; which makes having custom skins pointless, along with the crappy gun mettle update that adds random skins to weapons making custom skins, again, pointless as well as probably breaking most of them that already exist.
The only way I can see getting past this a custom server, which Ryo is trying to do, or tried. I don’t know if that fell through or not. but at that point it comes down to having the server force the custom textures on clients and I think that’s where it gets a little tricky as, in the past, it’s been impossible. Or, if it can be done, having the client download several gigabytes of textures and model edits which I doubt most people will want. Though, I suppose, at that point, you’d now about Tron Fortress and would have downloaded a large majority of the mods (Assuming we get around to fixing them after Valve broke everything and made everyone go sv_pure).
It’s rather funny in a very sad way actually. Valve says they support custom content makers, yet the majority of TF2 is now sv_pure 1/2 which is a slap in the face to those custom content makers they said they support. So really, Valve only supports those who’ve made it into the TF2 store and basically says F-you to everyone else.
