Acceptance doesn't mean "I am okay with this."
It means "This is what is happening. Now what?"
With practice, it is possible to change your relationship with the distress that appears when adverse things happen.
Instead of becoming caught up in it, it is possible to learn to observe it, acknowledge it, let it move through you in its own time. The last part may not be pleasant. But if you can let go and allow it, then you are not creating an extra layer of distress: fighting it.
It is like being caught in a riptide. You did not choose this. You do not control it. You can only control your response, to whatever degree you have learned to do that.
If you have not learned what to do when caught in a riptide, you may try to swim against the current towards the shore. This would be the obvious choice. But the riptide is stronger than you, and will wear you out before you can reach land.
If you know what to do, you will either try to float without resistance and call for help if you are not a strong swimmer, or swim parallel to the shore until you are free of the riptide. Then you can either be rescued, or swim to shore.
Accepting that you are caught in a riptide doesn't mean you are happy about it. But denying it, or remaining unaware, or getting lost in distress about the situation, will cause additional problems.
bell hooks mentioned going through a time in her life where she was severely depressed and suicidal and how the only way she got through it was through changing her environment: She surrounded her home with buddhas of all colors, Audre Lorde’s A Litany for Survival facing her as she wakes up, and filling the space she saw everyday with reinforcing objects and meaningful books. She asks herself each day, “What are you going to do today to resist domination?” I also really liked it when she said that in order to move from pain to power, it is crucial to engage in “an active rewriting of our lives.”
I have come to think of the suicidal impulse as the brain waving a flag to say three things:
something needs to change here
this is urgent
I don’t know how to do it
death is the ultimate metaphor for drastic change. it’s a general specific. whatever your problems are, it is very likely that dead people don’t have to deal with them. a real solution to your problems may demand a very narrow range of action that’s likely to be out of reach at this moment, but death is sold on every street corner, so it feels like a more realistic fantasy than happiness.
you don’t really want to die per se but it’s also not completely random chemicals swamping your brain for no reason. you want the pain to stop, you want to be somewhere else, you want to be someone else. it’s urgent. you don’t know how to do it. the end is not the end but a means that feels within your reach right now.
this is the wisdom of bell hooks: daily rituals of meaning and resistance and solidarity are part of slowly building a future where you can make the change you really need. and only alive people can do that. every step you take towards change and power is another step away from death.

The Deltora Quest anime is really good actually. The dub's decent enough for children's anime fare, and it's willing to show not tell.
Lief can just enter a ruined building, find a broken and discarded wooden toy, and see the Shadowlord's brand, without the need for him to narrate anything.
We've already been told what the Shadowlord's brand is, shown how the Grey Guards take property and deem it the Shadowlord's, how they spitefully destroy rickety slum-dwellings while chasing Leif down.
So they can just show a ruined house, branded, and it lets the implication speak for itself. Yay smartly written children's shows!
It's a Japanese anime, but it gets to have surprisingly well written English background text because it's adapted from an Australian children's fantasy book.
Whenever they show insert shots of The Belt of Deltora, an in-universe book, they can just use Emily Rodda's text for the book.

Scarlet Hollow spoilers
for a while now i’ve been learning that some people kind of choose to hate themselves like you can give them tools and resources and advice and they’ll even follow some of it and go “i still hate myself” and i feel strongly at that point they’re kind of choosing to stay in that mindset because it’s comfortable and familiar or something but some people are truly [gotye voice] addicted to a certain kind of sadness and hooked on feeling low
you really do have to trick and teach your brain to stop catastrophizing and seeking out negative bias and like trust me i know how it sounds but if you wake up in the morning and say “it’s so shitty out i don’t wanna get up or do anything” your brain will Believe that and make it so. for months i had to force myself to follow up self-defeating thoughts with reasons why it’s still going to be a good day and what’s going good for me so i could teach my brain to work in the opposite direction and it works. takes a while and feels fake the whole time but you wake up one day and realize you actually really love yourself and there’s so much going for you and you can do everything you always wanted
My therapist told me if you've experienced many bad things in life your brain is pretty much wired to seek out negative experiences because they are familiar, comforting and the brain is used to do so. This can show up in different ways, such as doom scrolling, watching a youtube video you actually kinda hate, hanging out with people you don't like or aren't good for you and so on.
We established this phrase that this specific part of my brain is the highway (easily accessible, broad and paved road) while what I personally would like to seek out is the less travelled gravel road through the countryside.
This mental image helped a ton because now I can catch myself driving on the highway when I don't want to (takes practice, like you said, Lucie!) and start changing to drive on the country road aka figure out what makes me feel good and pursue that instead.

What is the scariest game you've ever played?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Honestly, probably Fausts Alptraum. It's an RPG Maker title, I'm fairly sure, and it's a lot of fun, but it jumpscared me so bad one time that I never went back to it because I was too nervous about getting jumpscared again LOL
very funny that my answer isn't Phasmophobia. i freaking LOVE Phasmo it's so silly.

Couch co-op or online?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Depends on the game! I have Bad Vision so split screen co-op is annoying as Heck and I do not like it, on a game with split screen I'd prefer online co-op. Ditto a game with proximity voice chat, because that doesn't work the same if you're just sitting next to each other lol
But I like couch co-op for games that are made for that sort of thing! Like Overcooked 😌
i have an important question for the Scarlet Hollow fans of tumblr
